Hi all, I've seen the youtube videos for MEHEM and have been looking forward to playing Mass Effect 3 one last time but with the MEHEM ending instead of the Bioware made ones. I think I really need that last goodbye with an ending that I can actually feel triumphant and watch my Shepard alive and walking around after the Reapers are destroyed. I wanted to thank MrFob for making this and allowing us Mass Effect fans the chance to actually have our good ending we all wanted from the very beginning when we first were introduced to the Mass Effect universe in ME1.

I have 1 question, does anyone have an idea when version 0.4 is coming out? I'm not trying to rush anything. But if it was coming in the next few weeks I would actually put off playing ME3 for a while but if it might still be a few months then I might take up ME3 and play it with version 0.3. I had been putting it off into the summer because Graduate school was killing me this past semester but now that the semester is over I think I'm ready for one last Mass Effect go-around. Thus, if there's a general idea when it will come out great...if not, that's fine -- just thought I'd ask.

Thanks again for making this new ending...I can't wait to play ME3 and have this as my Shepard's ending. :)

I dug back to find this from Mr Fob. Page 179, about a month ago.

"I will leave on another trip in a 2 weeks as well so the next version will definitely not be out until June, possibly July."

And it sounds like he's pretty busy again. Maybe July?

I just finished my first playthrough using this mod. Yeah... I had actually avoided playing the game because I had heard of the endings. I understand that there are many who are fine with them as is, and that's cool. But now at least there is a POSSIBILITY of having an ending that isn't completely depressing. After all that hardship, loss, pain, and fear, we pull through.

A very hearty thank you to everyone who worked on this. You made Mass Effect 3 something I wanted to play again. :)

@ Mr. Fob: De nada. What I did was really so much smaller and easier than what everyone else is putting in.

@shotgun Julia: what? no bagpipes?   Just joking.  Nice work.

Found this pic in another thread. I think this looks a lot better, she looks more like a professional than a cheerleader with a big "chest". Especially wih the t-shirt and without the fishscales. You think this would be possible to make?
Someone else was asking for the same thing in another thread so I suppose there is a demand for it, at some level. :P
Sorry for OT.

That is much better than the plastic suit she has.  Looks more comfortable, too.

The music files are done. I've got MrFob's file ready to go. It's all mixed with the updated Battle FX track in wonderful crystal clear 24 bit audio that can be upconverted to 32 bit floating with no problem.

I went for the "Hollywood Sound". Unfortunately you won't get to hear the full results because Soundcloud, since I don't yet have a paid subscription, converts my wonderful 24 bit 48 kHz to 128 kbps MP3 which kind of sucks some of the life out of it (especially the growl in the bass). But what can you expect for free? It's like free beer. You don't get Victoria Bitter for free. Foster's maybe, but it's like goat ******.

So here are the results of my labor of love. I hope you enjoy them.

Here are some links:

No One Gets Left Behind -- This is the music that is played during the battle scenes in the first part. It starts just after the Citadel opens to flower form and continues to the the battle on Earth. There will be the fly over. Then the reaper lands. Then the wave hits.

Their Finest Hour / Mass Effect Theme -- This starts just as the reapers start to fall on Earth. Our grunt with the pistol gets to be a star. After his scene I'm going to let the game sound effects be in the background. I figured it was time to just let the music cut loose.

I'll try to get a video up on Youtube in the next couple of days.

I really respect the time and effort you put into this and really apprecate it because I really like the MEHEM mod.
But those two tracks...I don't know, the first spontaneos picture that came up in my mind was Final Fantasy 7 in the first track and something like Macros Digital Mission VF-X for old Playstation 1 on the second. It didn't have that typical Mass Effect sound in my respectful opinion. Try find the roots of the Mass Effect sound instead of making something own from scratch.
Again, I respect and appreciate the effort and time you put into it. Keep it up!

I have to agree with Yoshimurha. You have my utmost respect for an incredible effort and two professionally made tracks. Your work should be honoredImage IPB. However, I think it would've been better if your tracks took root from the Mass Effect soundtrack instead of being an entirely different style. When I listen to these two tracks, I don't feel like I'm saving our galaxy from destruction. These tracks do not seem to ''fit'' into Mass Effect's musical style.

I know I might sound harsh, but I still really appreciate the time and effort you put into these. As a fellow musician, I bow before youImage IPB

I am waiting for Youtube to Process the video. It is taking it forever. I guess converting from a .mov file (Quicktime) to Youtube takes longer than expected. They'll send me an e-mail.

The battle scene I was working with was version 0.2 of MEHEM.It had all sound stripped from it. The scenes were terrifying. The music I wrote to go with it was terrifying and frantic. I have everything synched to video.

Really you have to hear the music in context with the scenes. And (drumroll)....

Here it is:

There have been updates since, and I don't know what they are. I put 624 hrs into these compositions and arrangements. I hold copyrights on:

* "No One Gets Left Behind" and "Their Finest Hour" which are the first two selections you hear. "Their Finest Hour" ends where it goes into the Mass Effect Theme.

Watch the video before you make any judgements.

My only question Julia is will this also fit with Irons Harbinger battle and the picking up Shepard? The music fits well with what we have now but my only concern is the stuff we know that is coming.

Ok, I'll be th Nej-sayer then since there is such an cosy peace-love-and-understanding feeling around here.
I recognize the effort you've put into to this but I seriously don't get any Mass Effect vibes from any of the two songs. Did watch the link twice.
The music feels like something from a 90's console fantasy game, Zelda or Final Fantasy or such (which is not bad, just not Mass Effect).

What's wrong with the original Mass Effect 3 music score anyways? It fitted much better to the situation - that the end had been reached in one way or another.

I was surprised to hear the Mass Effect 2 music in the first place, but it's still a good musicscore so I figured "yeah ok".

I did notice the reference to the ending theme with the female singer - that song is awesome by the way - but it still wasn't Mass Effect in my ears. Also I did hear the similarities with the drum theme from Hacketts speech at the pre-ending of ME3 - but still not quiete Mass Effect. I could hear the effort of TRYING to sound like Mass Effect, but I didn't hear Mass Effect if you know what I mean. And I've been playing all three games A LOT and love the original scores of all the three games.

So if you're going to put this music into v 4.0, could you please at least release two alternatives or something? One with the 3.0 music (or the orignial music for that matter) and another alternative with these two songs?
Because I REALLY like the MEHEM mod, really I do, but this music was not in my liking at all in it's current state, again respectfully. :)

I pains me to write this. I would rather not see this thread become divided by people taking sides over the ending soundtrack. We all saw what happened to the rest of the BSN once lines began to be drawn. (I for one retreated to this thread and this thread alone).

Here it goes:
Shotgun Julia, I applaud your obvious effort, time, and dedication that when into the new music. You pocess artistic skills I do not.

That said, I like the Suicide Mission theme better.

Despite not being written for MEHEM, Suicide Mission just seems to fit. There's no one obvious thing I can point to in your music other than, It's not Mass Effect to me.

So I've picked my side and if that means I must stay with v0.3 forever, I'm perfectly fine with that. Thank you to everyone who made it possible.

@ Yoshi -- Everyone has different tastes in music. Every composer has a different style. A composer is also liable for copyright infringement. As such it is difficult to get what is called a "Mass Effect Vibe" without copying a Mass Effect song and ending up in court. I listened to the track you mentioned and I hear no similarity at all aside from the fact that they are the same speed.

There really was no battle music to speak of in ME3, and what there was would have been too close that it would have sounded recycled. Battles were downplayed. There were basically two battle themes in ME3. The Rannoch Reaper and Kalros were exactly the same. The battle music leading up to them was intense but short, and exactly the same. We couldn't use that for nearly four minutes. That was about the extent of it. Otherwise there wasn't virtually none. The only other times there was music was to feel sad or bittersweet.

But there are ways you can change the music in the mod yourself. You just have to make sure that the music is of a certain length and have certain tools to do it. MrFob can tell you how.

I am not releasing any other music to go with MEHEM, at least not for free. I will accept commissions.

@ Mr. House: With the Harbinger battle, I don't think there will be a problem. The Shepard pickup, we might be able to just do a volume reduction to very background levels. I've got an idea about what to do there.... we could cut the visual of the Citadel opening which is 30 seconds long and have someone say "The Citadel is opening. Harbinger is moving in for a strike, and we use that time before all hell breaks loose in the score for the ships to report in. There is plenty of time.

It's definitely appreciated.

As I mentioned before, leaving instructions up on how to put the Overlord and Suicide Mission tracks back into the game on our own really is the best approach to this, should adding one iteration of 0.4 where those are kept prove to be too much additional work-load.

Myself, I have got to say that I do like the tracks in context. Especially good work with the rifle sound synchronizing, far better even than the little that is there in the original EC (muted pistol sounds of the Alliance guy who's in focus are quite obvious there).

So, I gave it a go and listened several different times. First I listened with the YouTube (music with scenes) and then listened to music by itself...

...and I feel really awful for saying this, because I have no talent for it, and you obviously do, but ...it's a No for me on the music.

It honestly does not fit with any of what has been presented in MEHEM thus far. I really did try to like it, but it just is not clicking for me. I was hoping it would, because I just do not like the current music choice in MEHEM right now.

But honestly; Fantastic Job on your creation, and I am so envious of your creativity and skills.

I kinda feel like I should explain why I enjoyed this new soundtrack.

In a sense, I think MrFob may have inadventantly stacked the deck against Julia (or anyone else who tried to make new music for MEHEM) in picking the Suicide Mission theme.  It's pretty much THE best track of the Mass Effect trilogy.  It's big, bombastic (and I love bombastic), and practically screams "I'm Commander Shepard, and I'm here to kick your ****!"  Tough act to follow.

Except, that's not really what's happening here.  Shepard has fallen.  It's up to the muggles now to save him/her.  Those who wear uniforms, not costumes.  And that's what the music makes me think of.  A small military force not battling the Reapers, but trying not to get curb-stomped by them.  Not a glorious final battle, but a final, desperate race against the clock.  This is The Black Gate.  This is The End of All Things.

And finally, the dawn breaks.  Victory, rebirth. The music is different, but it's still Mass Effect if you listen.

Bingo. Also people keep mentioning the Zelda and FF vibe, yet I'm not getting it at all and I've played both series. Both songs fit for me, more so in context because of what the scene is and Iakus is right on the money.

Though I disagree Suicide Mission is THE BEST track in the series :P

Suicide Mission Theme might be considered THE best track of all of the Mass Effect Trilogy, but that particular track might not be THE best choice for that particular scene, as you pointed out.

That's why I was encouraged with these fan-made creations because: (1) can honestly bring out the best of the fandom out there (2) Bring unique tastes and "ears" to the table.

I just didn't particular like julia's take is all.  But I applaud the effort, and that's all I have ever said about this Mod.  And I encourage those to keep poking & tweaking and creating.

Actually, FF music never crossed my mind until it was just mentioned.  Hmmm, I guess I can "see" it, but yeah, that's not really what is happening here.
