Nah, come on, it"s all just moving stuff around. It's just all the keyframes that it's showing there.

Hey guys, new version of the shuttle drop scene is up.
I'd use something like this as a final version (apart from the audio, which is still missing) unless someone sees something wrong with it. Let me know if you can find mistakes, oddities, etc. Thanks.
Nicely done MrFob, much much better.

Looking pretty grand now, MrFob (though it's hard to tell if there's a starfield in the background, but that could be more from how YouTube encodes their videos).MrFob wrote...

My only thought is perhaps within the last 2-3 seconds of the clip where the shuttle is racing towards the Citadel, there maybe have a quick "action-scene style" zoom-in of the camera onto the shuttle (along with the current camera shake).

Love the vid you put hope. Frankly if you released it as is, I would be happy. So hearing you are doing even more improvements is pretty awesome
Will be sending in the fx as soon as I can. Hesitant to give deadline at this point but rest assured it will be as soon as possible.
Cant wait for v0.4

@AVPen: I thought about that as well but didn't do it because our crucible is sort of a "ball and stick model" with some fake reaper textures on it. It works very well in the background but better not to zoom in on it too much.
@cfs3corsair: Thanks and as I said, no rush. I'll probably finish all the visual development anyway before making my way to the audio. BTW, if you happen to find good sound bits for any of the stuff I put up so far, feel free to send them my way.

Hey, don't feel bad. I personally am just more stubborn then my own itch to give up and dive headfirst into complicated **** banging it with a giant stick untill it caves and does what I want. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if that's what all modders do here. We want something so damn bad, we refuse to give in.ruggly wrote...
No, it's not anything you did. I have unrealistic expectations of being able to do these sort of things pretty quickly, which is a stupid expectation for myself, and then when I can't I get quickly irritated and quit.(I lied a little bit, there is a hint of jealousy).
So if you want it, whatever it is you're trying to do, if you really want it, you bite into it like a freaking pittbull and make it do what you want it to do.
@MrFob: Looks awesome =) /salutes

Thanks, well, it's your Normandy. Also, I couldn't have phrased this better. Beating things with a stick describes everything I've done in the last year perfectly. You cheat and trick and and mess around until you find something that resembles what you wanted to do in the first place.
I do understand that ruggly as well though. I usually stick with projects that I think I can complete in max. 3 months time. If it takes longer, I run the risk that I'll never get a satisfactory result before I give up as well. It's why I would always encourage anyone to take small steps. Take on an easy project with well established procedures first. If that works, go one step further and so on. It's the only way to do things IMO.

Completely agree. I treat my mod in phases. If one phase goes really fast, move on to the next. When I run out of juice, stop. See what I have, see what others think. Then get back to it, like I am again.

This procedure is used in computer engeneering in order to build architecture-sensitive programs (At present day, the most part of them, are architecture-sensitive). And always works =)
The problem is that many times the iterations make you run out of time, or simply desperate. But is part of the process, you should know how much time do you have, what do you want to accomplish for sure, what would be great to include, and how much effort you want to invest on it =)
About desperation and "I want it now", I've faced this feeling a hundred times while doing the Harbinger video. Then you pass the feeling, and you get it working.
Call me crazy, but I see in this moment Harby's eyes and they say: "Pitifull human, you cannot do it!" Then I enrage and do it! (That was a joke xD)

Uh, you took my zoom-in advice, I'm so happy *-*
I have a question/proposition and something minor that could improve the drop scene.
First, the zoom-in at 0.02, if you did that to focus the attention on the dogfight, wouldn't be better to actually follow the entire chase then turn the "camera" right to focus on the Normandy? I mean like, zoom in - start following the dogfight while slowly zooming out, then the Normandy comes into play = turn camera left till it gets to the 0.11 position.
As for the shuttle drop, to give people the illusion of a moving drop try moving the Normandy up, or even rotating it clockwise a little (when the shuttle is actually moving and the camera is following it [0.17] ), it should do the trick, imo.
Edit: Almost forgot, nice job

The ITCH is exactly it... just know there's a solution, and it must be had...
I am certain you're right - it's probably the most prevalent, in-common, trait for modders.
The prime-mover or driving-force for entire careers - mine for sure (s/w eng/dev)
Fixing bugs, not an uncommon dev activity of course, but..
done post-production, with nasty, angry, paying customers or even smiling, anxious non-paying ones....

Lot of satisfaction to be had - hell, I liked bug-fix, sometimes more than dev,
if just for the more-regular feel of accomplishment....

It is the ITCH for sure. I really couldn't sleep working on mine for 17 days. I'm sleeping now while on v0.2 but pretty much what you describe above was my own experience.

@N172: Agreed but that's the only viable model we have and I think the map couldn't handle a very intricate model with real 3D arms, even if we had one. Not much anyone can do about that. This will be the closest I'll ever get to the citadel in any of the new videos. It's not so much of a problem if we stay a bit further away from it.
@aprilia1k & Deager: Yes, this is all for v0.4. I hope to finish it before the end of September (end of October at the latest, can never know if problems come up along the way). I planned to get it out by the end of July already but then I discovered the possibilities of UDK and decided to postpone for a few new videos.
As for that itch, it's the only reason MEHEM exists in the first place. I was happy with MEEM but once I had the idea to use the synthesis hugging scene with Shepard in it, I couldn't leave well enough alone either.

Wow, I was blown away by that shot. Amazing what you are able to do. I'm playing through ME2 right now, looking forward to ME3 at last.
As to the citadel looking flat, I noticed a couple of shots in ME2 use the Normandy against a similar flat backdrop of a space station or the like. With the music pounding and a playthrough behind us, I doubt it will be noticed among the rest of the MEHEM magnificence.

It looks good in that trailer, so I'm hoping it'll manage to restore some of that Mass Effect magic.
EDIT: Installed and played!
A big thanks to everyone that made this mod - it is indeed as it should've ended!

@frypan: Good to see you. Really need to apologise to you and all the others who already contributed to the next version some time ago (like Slippery Hammer, Julia, Poly Morph, etc.). I realise I have been sitting on a lot of stuff for quite some time now. Just give me a few more weeks to make it worth it. Glad you like the video progress so far though.

I am on another complete playthrough, from the beginning..I tried 3.0 version with a save I had where I stopped playing until your mod..I refused to play the end, until MEHEM..
Now I am starting from the beginning of the series again, just got to Virmire right now.. and actually enjoying, playing it even more now, that I have something to look forward to, that means so much to so many..that I will reach an ending, in ME3, my Shep and I are more than ecstatic with..
Eh, I mean you made this game re-playable, with joy, not sadness…you've lifted many a down spirit..
Modders like you deserve medals..will many kudo's do..and eternal gratitude..eh?
I thought by the time I get to ME3 maybe the new version will be out..which will be awhile..
I keep track of this thread, mostly tech talk beyond me..but still like to see what’s up..
However unless its PhotoShop, I am lost..I did mod skins way back when Unreal Tournament 3 and 4 was out..that was fun..and few things for Oblivion/Skyrim, but that’s not like what you all are doing here..
With PhotoShop I am a wiz, the rest of this you all are doing is Greek to me, yet its moving along it seems quite nicely..good on mate, good on.. Everyone…Ta for the link to the latest vid..
I believe now and again especially modders need to be reminded they are appreciated and you certainly are, all yous working on this..
Its so nice to actually look forward to the ending now..Keep up the good work Mr miracle man..and all your cohorts..aye mate..
Slainte!

It took me a great deal of time and courage to go back and play ME:3 again after how upset I was with the original ending but after seeing what you did with this mod and finishing the game again, I personally cannot thank you enough for the work you put into this. 5+ years of Command Shepard and now it's truly complete. What an emotional rush!
Anyways, thanks again for all you've done and for giving Shepard the ending that she deserves.
I'm quite certain that this is something BioWare will remember as well.
With my most sincere respect,
-Rayne (LastPatriot)
