But one warning right now: v0.4 will be big. it'll probably be about double the size of v0.3, which unfortunately means that we won't be able to upload it on BSN anymore (filesize limit here is 400 MB). I am not yet sure where we'll upload. Our friends at masseffectsaves.com were always happy to host a copy (big thank you for that!!!) but I haven't talked to them yet and I am not sure with the increased sure and all. Most free hosters also have file or traffic limits so if anyone has a good suggestion for places to upload, please post!
What size would we be looking at, and is splitting the package up into, say, multiple parts out of the question?
If it's, say, 'merely' twice the size of 0.3's setup files, how about putting up another project here on BSN, on another account? Would effectively increase that limit, wouldn't it.

Standard routine for a number of mod-projects of larger size, really, uploading setups in multiple parts. It's not as neat as having everything in one package, of course, so just a thought.
Edit: Otherwise, while I am only familiar with that site as a user, rather than uploader, how about giving moddb.com a shot? Got a Mass Effect 3 section too, and Eudamonium, one of the folks from me3explorer had a project of his own uploaded there.

Edit: just remembered I have an account there, and for a free account the file limit size is 2.25 gigs.

The ThaneMOD team has been keeping our eyes open for various options for hosting, and as you stated, it is not uncommon for many sites to have size/traffic limits.
HTL mentioned the possibility of hosting the ThaneMOD there (we haven't explored any further with them, so I have no idea what restrictions they might have), but that might be an option for you. And of course, we are hoping that Nexus gets their new site done soon, as that would be an ideal site for us, and could be a good spot for your mod as well.
Wish I had better options to offer. If we find any useful info though, we will pass it on.

Just a few comments:
Dropbox is out of the question. Just have a look at the first 3-5 pages of this very thread (Ahhh the nostalgia
ModDB: I applied to have MEHEM there last year and they rejected me. Not sure, maybe I could try again.
Splitting files: Yes, that occurred to me as well. I'll have to check with wavion how well that would work. Of course, one file would be ideal though.
I'll have to look at HTL as well, thanks for the tip.

Hello everyone, Just wanted to say thank you to the team here working on this mod. Years ago I played Mass
Effect 1 and loved it but had ceased all gaming for the last 5-6 years so I had never played ME2 or ME3. A few months ago I thought about doing a search on the game to see where it went. I began watching youtube videos on the series which sparked an interest until I had watched the finale of ME3. At that time I had decided I wouldn't purchase the trilogy but within in days of continued searching I found the MEHEM mod. This changed my mind and I bought the series. I've gone though 2 trilogy playthroughs with MEHEM and am now experimenting with multiplayer while I wait for v0.4. I also bought all DLC for all 3 games along with other packages so clearly this mod is a bonus for Bioware. Keep up the good work.
That's a great post and I am really happy to hear things like that. My hope is that at some point, the ME developers will realize how much of a bonus modding can be for their games. Since BioWare used to be a great supporter of modders in the past with e.g. Neverwinter Nights and Dragon Age: Origins, I really hope to see more modding support from BW itself for future ME titles. The ME3Explorer team has done and is doing an incredible job but if BW itself were to chime in, we could still go to a whole other level (literally, pardon the pun

You could pack it into a multipart 7zip (since it's freeware) archive, when people unpack it (and wait, speed of extraction will be the issue), they will have a nice single installer.

any trailers or release week planned yet ?
Ask and you shall receive. ... Well, at least if you ask for something I wanted to do anyway.
CAUTION!!! --- SPOILER WARNING!!!
I'm afraid it came out a little like these action movie trailers that already reveal all the best parts of the movie.
So: This trailer reveals a LOT of the new stuff in MEHEM v0.4. If you'd rather like to be surprised when it's time, don't watch it!!!
Here is the link.
I put this trailer together in less than 3 hours so it's a bit rough around the edges but I'd rather spend more time o0n the actual mod than on a trailer.
Hope you like it nonetheless. I also hope I don't get sued for using this msuic.
By the way: I am doing some testing at the moment and I could really use a male shepard save with an EMS count around 2000 (the one that gets you the medium destroy ending where earth is not destroyed but devastated.
Does anyone have one? Would really appreaciate it. I tried to mod a save of my own with Gibbet but even though my EMS count at the beginning of Cronos Station was in the right range, I got the normal high ems ending (even with a vanilla game) so that didn't work and I wasted 2 hours playing through Cronos and Priority earth. So if anyone has a save, that'd be great!
Wow! I was seriously blown away by that! Awesome trailer Mr.Fob! The new content looks amazing! Serious kudos and praise to everybody involved. Really looks like everybody put their heart and soul into the work. Amazing how when that happens, the product truly shines.
As for the file size, I had the same thoughts as 2112.rush. Many times when I download large file sizes, its usually broken up into parts. I don't know if that would be feasible here, but maybe something to try out.
Awesome work again!

However, with regards to modding in the future, who knows, they're going to start using Frostbite 3 which I think is a mistake, but EA probably wants to cut out the middleman in there as well. It seems like Frostbite 3 is almost impossible to mod, a fact that DICE was proud of. Even texture modding was difficult and those who participated in the creation of texture mods for BF3 were banned. I wouldn't be surprise if they made it difficult to mod on purpose, knowing EA, that makes perfect sense.

I haven't had a look at the trailer since I don't want to be spoiled but about the storage question : I can host the mod on my own server like we did for version 0.2 (IIRC). No size limit except what the hard drive can take. If you have a rough estimate of the total file size and the number of files, we can work something out. Also possible is having a simple web page (HTML or PHP) or different versions (zip containing raw stuff, installer, old versions, etc...).
You can PM me for the details but we can definitely work something out.

I also just made another submission to moddb. Let's see if they changed their mind.
Additionally, wavion and I are working out how to best store a copy here on BSN (maybe in two parts as some of you already suggested). I am sure we'll have worked things out by the time everything is ready.
@creapsmantic: The Harby project will come as an add-in, soon after v0.4 is done. It'll make downloading all of it a bit easier and keep the size manageable..
@Splinter Cell 108: I am afraid you might be right on the modding front. It's really (not) funny because DICE's games used to be very mod friendly.
EDIT: Ok, so I created a page for MEHEM on ModDB and filled it a little. It's still under review and I have no idea if anyone but me can actually access it until it's approved but give it a click. If it works, maybe it'll show the guys that there is an audience for this stuff.
Here is the link
EDIT2: Since I had to make a banner for this moddb business, I quickly adapted it for forum sigs if anyone is interested.
I hope it didn't come out too thick.

Bioware itself has a history of being quite modding friendly in their policy, wether or not they have released a toolset specific to the game you are trying to mod, though they've done that several times with the Dragon Age and Aurora toolsets. I'm atleast hopeful as I'm quite sure Bioware recognizes the importance and impact the modding community has on the longevity and replayability of a game.
@MrFob Looking good!

Well that argument goes both ways as mods onforum have mentioned that cutting out the middle man is valuable in thems of toolset releases as that's mostly what makes it so damn hard. Inhouse tools often can't be added or shared for a public release and without an inhouse or free alternative, releasing toolsets is impossible. Even if there are alternatives that means they have to stick a team on the toolset conversion which costs time and money as well.
True, but still, multiple times it has been asked if DA:I will have a toolset and in many of those cases they have responded with ambiguous answers and reasons as to why it cannot be done. One would think that since this is an engine that EA owns, it'd be easier to release mod tools. Either it is too difficult because the engine requires a substantial programming effort due to it being almost impossible to mod with, or they used too many third party tools to create it and it costs too much to do anything about it.
Can it be done? Yes, I'm sure it can. Do they want to do it? I'm thinking, not so much which is disappointing. If they are looking to have DA:I compete with Skyrim, I would've thought modding would be one of the ways they could accomplish this.
If such is the case that it is so hard to make mods, I'm starting to think that they didn't cut out the middleman very well, since if it costs this much to develop a toolset, any serious modifications must cost equally as well.

It's just that every single time I enter the Galaxy Map, I am imagining it overfilled with markers of places to go, created by all sorts of people.
Of course, it's an effort to support a mod community but I do hope that to some extent the projects in this forum section will help to swing BW in that direction nonetheless, even for Mass Effect.

But you know what gets to me, almost every time someone talks about toolsets it's like they underestimate the complexity of such a release and setting up a game to properly support it.
I'll never be one to claim to know how "easy" it could be, because I have no real frame of reference and I absolutely don't believe it to be true. My best guess is simply what my gut tells me. Just imagine the complexity of a framework allowing for the changing and adding to the actual gamefiles with the work the modding community has done. And that's aside from the workings of the toolset itself, released with FREE third party tools? No, I think not. The alternative is them building these tools, that's a big investment on it's own. Also, how does the console version fit into development?
And actually, it's funny we'd bring up Skyrim as that game was riddled with gamebreaking bugs on release and mods have a tendency to break your game and corrupt your saves. Easy, I think not. Releasing a toolset WELL and releasing a stable game with one? That's never going to be easy if you ask me.
It's a bit of a tender subject, because as much as I've used both previous toolsets and was happy for them, I've also become completely allergic to negativity on the subject that spawned through the lack of a toolset for DA2 and the ME series. I don't know if you guys ever noticed it, but the community backlash back then always turned my stomach just because of the entitlement dripping off it. Made it a bit of an iffy subject for me and I've been a modder for years now.
At any rate, this is just my opinion and I'll be honest, I've always kept optimistic when it comes to Bioware and their understanding and willingness to put that extra step towards the community. So I choose to believe they would if they viably could, and if they don't, they'll let us muck about as long as it's not hurting anybody.
Anywhose I'll stop derailing your thread now MrFob =)

Is the plan still to release the individual files for a manual install as well as the automated installer? My SFARs are modified for other things and the installer will reject them (at least it used to).
I'd second this as well, for those who prefer it that way. Me among them, admittedly.
That aside, moddb appears to have cleared Fob's application, page is up.

@Ottemis: Not much to add to that, except that of course, opening up the product bears it's own risks and you'll always find varying quality in any mod community (Skyrim is an extreme example since the game is basically built around/with the mod kit, more or less). Still, it's up to the community to show that all the troubles are well worth it.
@CommandBenX: Sorry #bout that. It was a rather quick job. Maybe I'll get around to it on the weekend. But I am happy for anyone to download the thing and modify it to their hearts content as well.
@HelixSpiral & Chashan: Now that MEHEM is officially on moddb (got approved, YAY!!!), I don't see why not. BTW, thanks for linking, Chashan.
