Wow, I am away for a few days and when I come back, we have shiny new forums? Nice! And we have a modding section! Well done BW!

I sent a request to a moderator to move the thread to the modding subforum. See you over there. :)

EDIT: Now that was quick, didn't take 3 minutes. Cheers!

Cheers folks!

I thought with the last MEHEM play through on v0.4, I could put the game away for a while.

...but that hug, that last flyby, the call is so strong, and with the Anderson dialogue compatibility, there's yet another reason to go back.

There is still some work being done on the mod. That being said, version 4 has debuted and it is quite awesome!

Concurred. I don't feel like I'm missing anything by playing a trilogy run now. There are always little things and maybe some big things planned but v0.4 is solid.

Ah, here is everybody. As wondering since the other thread got quiet. :) Pretty nice makeover. I agree, since 0.4 mod is very solid. Especially now since Miranda is with me in the memorial scene, that was the last piece to make it complete :D. Everything else is icing on the cake, although can't wait for the Harbinger add-on. Ever since ME2, that's one Reaper I've been wanting to see go down. (sigh, wasn't a boss fight... <_<)

Point. Then again, you could argue it's more than just a mod... :P

MEHEM's unique.  Not just in content but in what it represents.  It stood for the fandom at a key moment.  It's more than a mod.  It's a symbol.  I don't know if Bioware understands broken endings, but MEHEM fixed one.  They have to respect that.  :D

Speaking of that...

Some time ago, it was half-jokingly asked who else should take that place in the memorial...on a more serious note than back then, how about Chambers? There is some plot-flag created for her after all during ME3, isn't there.

I thought about including Kelly when I added Miranda and Jack, but she says that she doesn't think she can set foot on the Normandy again. I suppose she could always change her mind to be with Shepard at the memorial wall though.

I'm also considering Samara by request since you can sort-of romance her in Citadel.

I thought that part was quite well done, putting the tiny almost-not romance of Shepard and Samara way above several of the "real" ones in quality and how emotionally true it felt.  It'd be a nice touch, I think, since they never adjusted anything else to reflect the Citadel events regarding that.  Not that you should necessarily care about the opinion of some random forum person such as myself on the matter, but them's my 2 cents, all the same.

The more the merrier. :D

Frankly, since the architects behind the Collectors, the Reapers are toast at the end, I could see her being present. Would still be open enough whether she got off the Citadel or was found by Shepards themselves some time in the aftermath of the Crucible, etc.

Hello, this review-like post is directed towards the creators of the mod.

Positives:

Even though i very much enjoyed the original extended cut Synthesis and Control endings i gave this mod a shot after seeing a lot of great feedback on various websites. I applaud your choice of music, it made very grandiose and emotional moments even more so. Some of the cinematic work is very well placed and done. The emails are the best part of this mod, it makes game world appear more "alive" and makes you think that someone is actually fighting on Earth and guys are really building the Crucible. I would like to see a separate mod for the emails and would gladly provide you with content if help is what you are looking for.

Constructive criticism:

I dont know the limitations to editing the content but if you continue to progress i suggest you somehow alter the citadel part because you streamlined probably most complex and mindscrewing game ending and made it in to Hollywood b class super hero movie ending. It simply makes no sense, only the citadel part. I can live with Shepard making it out, but all those scenes with random Harbinger lines and Joker/EDI lines that are taken out from ME2 are just too immersion breaking. The ending removes any explanation whatsoever on how does the Crucible actually work, it just cuts to it firing without anyone doing anything except of attaching it to the giant ****** that is the citadel. I think the catalyst has to be there, even if presenting you with 1 and most inefficient choice which is Destroy, this mod is made so Shepard can live anyway isnt it? So why remove most crucial and compelling part of the trilogy and make it in to a sequence of random, out of place voice acting and repeating cinematics that played a hour ago when the fleets went through the relay and started the battle. If you are set on keeping the voice overs and stuff, consider using Convolution Reverb effect/s to set them in to 1 space so they dont sound so different from each other, EQ effect to polish the sound quality and volume and filters to remove the noises that shouldnt be there. Also consider altering your credit placement and the font size, color, because after going through very emotional ending and wondering what if, red "in your face" credits teleport you back in to the real world at that very moment they make you realize that this was in fact a made up alteration of an already made up ending to a made up story and it actually means nothing.

All in all i salute you for trying to appeal to the masses who enjoy seeing their hero live through hell to once more hug his loved one and die from old age or implant malfunction. The idea is there, but at this moment i wouldnt play through this for the second time as it makes no sense and provides zero answers to questions that have an impact on galactic or even universal life. I understand why people hate the original extended cut endings, they are simply spoiled by 'good guy lives' trend which is in 99% action movies since the beginning of global Hollywood domination, thats the actual indoctrination and people dont realize that few companies that dominate this market assumed control over their minds and how they perceive fantasy worlds long ago, so capitalizing on the fear of not being satisfied with standards is very well thought of on your part. I really hope this mod continues to progress and maybe in the future it will be something that actually adds to the content instead of drastically cutting it and makes an already complex part of the game in to something bigger which makes your choice even harder to act on.

Before i go out ill give you 1 idea: Catalyst only appears at the end, with same voice and and at 1 place, so completely overhauling its dialogue with different voice actor and different character model is where i would go if you hate the idea of it materializing itself and speaking in a form of child who has a significant meaning to Shepard because the death of the kid made him realize that this is going to be do or die from that very moment.

P.S. If modding the stuff that i suggested is impossible dont pay attention to anything i wrote, but as i said, i have no idea on limitations presented to modders.

Good luck, thanks for your attention,.

@HelixSpiral: Sounds like an interesting idea. v0.5 is still a while away, so whatever you want to do, we surely have enough time to include it.

@timskywalker: Yuo are talking about UDK, right? Yea, that takes a while. But it's just a question of perseverance. :)

@spatialdimension: Thanks for your review. I can definitely see where you are coming from when you say, you'd like to keep the catalyst but the concept of MEHEM is the simplification of the endings. Personally, I don't think the original ending was very complex or thoughtful. The catalyst doesn't really give a coherent explanation for how the crucible works either. At one point he says it's just a battery, which doesn't really make much sense, given that the reapers already have much more advanced power sources, so how could it "change the variables" then and suddenly allow synthesis? This is just one of a dozen logical inconsistencies, not to mention the narrative disconnection. But the catalyst has been discussed at length elsewhere and it's not productive to repeat this discussion here. Suffice it to say that I personally think the ending was simply not thought out very well, rather then intentionally very complex.

I will agree though, that MEHEM is not any better. As you say, it is similar to a b-movie ending (which unfortunately is still on par with the original IMO) and it is not exactly my idea of a perfect ending either. It is a compromise between what we can do with the game (in a realistic time frame) and what might work for people. BTW, if you are looking for a more complex alternate ending, I suggest you take a look at MEEM (without the H), my first and story-wise favorite mod. It still isn't exactly what I would consider a great ending but it is the closest I could get (with the limitations we were facing at the time it was made). MEEM is actually along the lines of what you suggest in your last paragraph.

I do have one question about your comments on the voices though:

1. Which Harbinger lines are you referring to? The only ones that are in the mod are during the beam run. Is it those?

2.While I agree that not all voices fir perfectly to their environment (I am not exactly a sound engineer, I am surprised you mention background noise. The voice samples I used were all extracted from the game files and do not include any background noise.

I'd appreciate it if you could elaborate since I am still trying to improve the quality of the videos.

Oh, one more quick word on the credits: I put those in, not for myself but just to show all the people who have contributed to the mod so far. MEHEM wouldn't be where it is today without them. Many people (me included) see the stargazer scene as detached from the game anyway (especially after the additions of the EC, where the perspective for the future is already dealt with in the slides). Since it is jammed in between the game's main credits and a text message from BW to the audience, I don't think we loose much immersion there. But it is relatively easy to change it back to the original.

Thanks again for your feedback.

No, maybe MEHEM is not as good as what a AAA studio could churn out... oh wait it is. Bioware is triple A and you took their ending and made it into something worthwhile.
Cheers!

Agreed.  Given this is a game that was never meant to be modded in the first place, what you and your team have done is nothing short of miraculous.  It's so much closer to the ending people wanted that there are players who have bought PC versions of ME3 specifically so they could play out MEHEM as their endings.

From your positives part I agree that the music choice really helps the ending feel better. If that song was used with just the destroy EC ending I think it would help. I may screw around with that idea.

I think if somehow the Sur'kesh theme could be incorporated in, it makes for a very epic fight sequence between the Citadel arms opening to the ultimate firing of the crucible.  That would put it over the top for me.  Of course that is just my opinion.  I still think this mod is simply amazing.

edit: I am referring to 1:47 to 5:56 of the link.

I finished MEHEM recently, and then played and finished Portal (what can I say, it takes, like 10 minutes).

ANYway, Portal's credit music played, and I somehow came up with this:

This was a Triumph.
I'm making a note here:
HUGE SUCCESS.
It's hard to overstate
my satisfaction.
MEHEM
You do what you must
because you can.
For the good of all of us.
Except the ones who are gone.

But there's no sense crying
over every mistake.
You just keep on trying
till you run out of cake.
And the mod gets done.
And you make a neat end.
For our Shepards who are
Still Alive.

Thanks again for a great mod!

I thought it was done with v0.4 but I guess a v0.5 is in the works.

I'll keep watching to see if/when it is done and put it up on the mirror as well.
