Has anyone tried using MEHEM v0.5 with ME3 Character Texture Overhaul ? I have played most of the game with the texture overhaul so I know that by itself it works. Then after I reached Cerberus HQ I saved and tried installing MEHEM (vanilla'd the game first, then installed MEHEM, did Texplorer scan, then tried to reinstall the texture overhaul), but after that the game doesn't seem to load at all.

 

Wondering if anyone had any suggestions or if maybe anyone knew if these particular textures weren't compatible with MEHEM.

Update: Well I have no idea what caused it but it worked this time. Just went through the whole install process again and it worked the second time around. Same versions of everything as before. So I guess if it doesn't work the first time...just keep trying...

 

Someone once told me "Computers work on Voodoo", I guess it's true.

Glad it worked out in the end vr5angel. I use the character overhaul as well, among many other texture mods. Combining content mods and texture mods can be a bit tricky but with that procedure, it should work in principle. Not sure what happened in your particular case. Maybe a TOC.bin glitched during the update procedure or something like that. It's been known to happen in rare cases.

I'm a console gamer so sadly I can't experience the mod myself, but I felt like giving some feedback after watching a Youtube video of what the ending I would have been if I had the mod installed. The video I'm referring to is here - 

 

The cutscenes at 5:00 kind of breaks the immersion because there's no battle going on in the background. I'm not sure how difficult it would be to edit that in, but it could be worth just removing/replacing it with something else. There's another cutscene at 5:14 which runs in about 3 frames per second and feels really out of place.

 

Other than that and the voice acting being kinda far off at times, it feels like it fits in well as a real ending. Nice work! :)

 

Edit: It also seems like the last conversation with Anderson sounds different to the original, did you edit the sound files for that?

Hi Bakey, thanks for the feedback. I'd fully agree with you but you have actually been watching an old version of MEHEM. All your points were actually addressed in v0.4 and later. If you check out one of the videos, linked in the OP, you'll see that we added new cutscenes, changed some voice overs and added other improvements to the mod. I hope you like those changes but if you have more suggestions, feel free to post them here.

 

BTW, the last conversation with Anderson was not changed in MEHEM, however, there is JohnP's extended Anderson conversation mod, which restores some content that BioWare cut from the game and makes this final conversation longer. While compatible, this is not part of MEHEM though, so it's a separate install.

Oops, looks like you're right. Whoever did Joker in the later version got it spot on. My only criticism would be to make the custom made cutscenes a little more fluid but I can understand how hard that would be. Very nicely done!  :)

Thanks. The Joker lines are actually re-used lines from ME1-3, so it's Seth Green himself and of course, he impersonates Joker pretty well. ;)

As for the cutscene quality, I agree there is room for improvement but ultimately, it's a trade-off between quality and the time, needed to make it better, so for now, I put a stop to it here. Maybe if I am bored at some point in the future, I'll try to improve them further.

OMG, thanks everyone who had a helping hand in this creation. I'm not a crying kind of person but, when the only ending I could get after many attempts was a DEAD HEROINE. I was furious, mad, sad, heart broken, and many emotions not printable.

 

Now I cry with joy and happiness :wizard:. I wish you all a big hug for making the game what it should have been from the start. THANKS! :wub:

Hi! I also wrote a post on Nexus.

I was using MEHEM v0.4 and it was working fine (even if I have the Italian version of the game). Afterwards, I installed another mod (Miranda alternative uniform, on Nexus) which is supposed to work with MEHEM, but when I arrived at the Citadel, the movie didn't start. I only got Shep and Anderson at the console and I couldn't do anything except force quit the game.

I removed the mod for Miranda and updated MEHEM with the latest version. Then the movie was working, but only until the rescue scene. Afterwards, the screen was just black. Moreover, every time I enter the game and there's a check for the DLCs, I get a message saying that I should log in with the same account used to download the MEHEM DLC and it doesn't work. I hope someone can help me. I tried to reload the save at the Citadel and I saw the Starchild. Gosh, I still have nightmares about it. I don't want to see it anymore! :sick:

There are two issues you may be encountering monicasubzero:

1) This is probably the main issue: Since MEHEM v0.5 is now a DLC mod and since I didn't realize that I would have to adjust all files for other languages, the mod may not work properly if your game is set to Italian language. This was not problem for v0.4, since that older version was still integrated directly into the Extended Cut DLC and was not on its own. I am afraid, the only solution at the moment is to set your game to Englsih. I will try and fix this issue in v0.6.

2) It may be that MEHEM v0.5 causes a compatibility issue with the mod that changes Miranda's outfit. The reason is that in MEHEM v0.5, MIranda's model is now streamed into the memorial scene if you romanced here. In order to achieve this, we (JohnP actually created this part of the mod) had to modify one of the files where Miranda appears, namely her appearance on the Citadel. If your Miranda mod also modifies this file, if it is also a DLC mod and if it has a higher load priority tham MEHEM, than it may interfere with MEHEM's proper running.

 

So, if you change the language for text and audio to English and MEHEM v0.5 still gives you trouble, then there may be an incompatibility between the two mods.

tried a trilogy run on my new rig, mehem seemed to run fine with my texture mods, and it was fine till anderson's death, then the old footage with the elevator & starbrat kicked in... i followed the install instructions (loved the earlier versions btw), minus the bit about using the most recent rev of me3explorer, as most of the texture mods i can't play without require rev653, as later builds don't seem to deal with them too well (i've had bad results). i need to vanilla ME3 and reinstall mehem + texture mods with a newer version don't i(i will miss my old mods)? or is it something else? like somehow origin or ME3 re-vanilla-ing my files, even after i've taken steps to stop them doing so?

(i really need to stop writing just before i turn in, as i can hardly type or see at the moment)

Hm, that's odd. If the texture mods gave you trouble, the game should crash or something. If you saw the old ending, it's more like it wasn't installed (or at least not correctly). Got to <your ME3 install directory>\BioGame\DLC\ folder and see if you have a folder there, called DLC_CON_MEHEM. If not, something must have gone wrong during the install, try to re-install and make sure the folder where the mod wants to install is your game folder.

 

As for the textures, I really don't recommend using older versions of ME3Explorer, since it will very likely cause trouble unless you are a very advanced user and know exactly what you need to do. The good news is, a new stable version of ME3Explorer will probably be out very soon and you should be able to use to install your textures.

i double checked (or i guess triple checked at this point) DLC_CON_MEHEM is there. and as i said everything up to that point works. even the harbinger trash talking during the beam run.

ok, i actually tried to watch the ending. it does the whole starkid bit, when i picked destroy it then plays about 1/3 of the mehem ending (the section with the normandy shooting the reaper fighters & the retrieval shuttle returning to the normandy) with the old original ending music then it freezes just as the crucible actually fires or perhaps just before it actually fires.

Ok, that's really odd. No idea how this could happen. Are you using any other mods (besides textures)? Also, all I can suggest at this point is the same as you said above, to do a fresh install of the game, then just install MEHEM and see if it works. If it does, then you have some compatibility problem on your hands.

 

I am not sure if installing the textures with the old version of ME3Explorer could somehow cause this issue (my first instinct would be to say no but there are so many potential sources for issues, who knows).

i loaded my vanilla backup and ran the me3 ending with nothing but mehem and it worked flawlessly. as for what mods i have installed, it's just hi-res textures. ashley legacy (technically might be considered more than a simple retex in retrospect), character texture overhaul, improved vanilla hair mod, about every retexture mod ottemis did (armor, background textures, alliance cruisers, dreadnoughts & the normandy), a few more texture mods here and there.

Yea, doesn't sound like any of those should be incompatible with MEHEM v0.5 in principle but it seems that it must have to do with using the old ME3Explorer for the textures..

so use rev717 or 718, and just drop the mods that don't like it? funny, without those mods that don't like the later versions of me3explorer, i don't really feel like replaying me3 all that much. that's how badly ea/bioware screwed up mass effect for me. i mean case and point... the new and "improved" ash, seriously? what were they thinking?

I've actually had pretty good luck using whatever version of me3explorer is easiest with the textures I have, then using the latest rev for the AutoTOC on the main game and all DLCs; mods and official. I don't know if I officially recommend it, but it's worked for me.

Hi ger666,

Does the crash happen on startup of the game? The mod really shouldn't do that because it doesn't change any files that are loaded at startup.Are you trying to run MEHEM together with any other mods?

You can try to uninstall the mod, repair the game through Origin and then run it again. once you get the game to run again, try to install the mod again. Be aware that in order to run MEHEM v0.5, you need to set your game language settings to English.

Finally got round to completing another playthrough with the final version of MEHEM withe the LI mod.

It really was an exceptional experience & an exxceptionally impressive production The memorial scene leaves me blown away and amazed Bioware didn't do something similar in high EMS. Big thanks to all involved as this mod has really cut out the core of the cancer that would have stopped me ever replaying the series.

I may have to go and edit the Mass Effect "movies" a few players in these forums (and at Youtube) have produced and try pasting in the MEHEM ending.  It seems that both guys who made ME3 movies went with the default ending (selecting "destroy" I think).  I'd prefer to paste in the MEHEM ending that's appropriate and make the "movie" work better for me.

Yea, MEHEM is not for everyone (or for every play through either). I haven't seen these movies, seen the forum threads about them but I am playing the game right now, so I get my ME fix straight up. :)

 

Great kudos just for the effort though. I just made a little 5 min tribute video for ME1 once and that took me forever to get together. Can't imagine how much time and effort it would take to make a feature length movie out if this.
