Some romance conflicts would be nice.

I've often wondered this myself; I don't see the appeal in them at all.alex90c wrote...

I would love that. I haven't played a Bioware game with one for my romance yet.Knight of Dane wrote...
I'd like to see confrontations. I don't really want fights, but conrontations where your romances corner you and make you choose would be cool.

This. There is more to a relationship than just saying I love you. One of the reaons I liked some of the rivalmances in DA2.

Who's Aerie and Haer'dalis?
Baulder's Gate Characters. Haer'dalis is involved in Aerie's, a winged elf, Romance. Your choices involving him can either save or ruin your romance with her (Aerie is a woman, Haer'dalis is a man).
Would like to see this though. Would have been funny to come back to camp to find that a romanced, hardened Leliana was cheating on you w/Zevran. Would have given me incetive to kill the antivan elf.

Pointless conflict is bad story. If someone has a real reason to argue with you, they'll probably do so even if you aren't romantically involved.plnero wrote...

The rivalmance w/Merrill would have been somewhat better if Merrill turned around and told Hawke that she would be okay walking to her old place, and Hawke mentioning that the templars are everywhere, and it is too risky for her to even step outside the door, then Merrill says she doesn't need Hawke's permission to go to her own house, then storms off.

No, a romantic conflict can mean a wide range of things. Two people being born in rivaled clans is a romantic conflict and doesn't involve them arguing with one another.

such as Aerie-Haer'dalis romance in which the player can acually lose Aerie to Haer'dalis if he made wrong choices.
I understand those who value romance above anything else might find this idea disturbing, but I argue that DAO and DA2's romances in which you automatically succeed as long as you are nice to your RI is a bit unrealistic.
Rival-mancing Merril.

In DA2, I was flirting with Fenris and Anders - neither ever really acknowledged that, and before I knew it I had slept with Anders and lost any chance with Fenris. If a warning conversation had happened, I actually would have quit flirting with Anders and gone with Fenris.
So yea - if more "romantic conflicts" means bringing back jealousy and "warning" conversations, I would prefer that.

I liked how in Origins you got a "warning" conversation if you were flirting with multiple companions.

Can't Anders be like "aren't you with Fenris?" and you can say "yes" or "no" and he can respond accordingly? You can also just be terrible and sleep with him, then kick him out while questioning his "ability" (if you like that sort of thing...)
Or does that only happen if you slept with Fenris first? (I think Act 1 flirting really just opens up Act 2 followup flirtation to get to the sexytime love scene, if I am not mistaken)

I could do conflict that is less cat-fight, and has more "meat", like a jealous..I dunno, Sebastian from the DLC....being "concerned" about how selfish Anders is, not because of anything else but wanting to jump in your crotch. (And then be proven right, or something, I dunno. I'm not good at those kind of romance conflict things).
Or conflict with you and your LI over life goals or something (he wants to get married and have 2.3 kids, you don't. And also you're gay and caught whatever Isabela had. And you're a mage. That is possessed by a demon - the romances all kinda meld together in my head now).
Or not even that - the Merrill "I'm elven and you're a human thing" is nice. And the nobles sending you nasty letters about letting your elven lover muck up the neighborhood with her weird ears, face tattoo and lack of shoes. (I'm better at these kind of romance conflicts)

Both of these sound like good Ideas.
Give me something that makes the romance more real, even rivalmanced Merrill seemed a little rainbows and sunshine to me.

Dude....in real life when you are nice to a girl who you are in a relationship with then its very natural that she stays with you. If she doesn't then your probably doing something wrong.
How can real life be unrealistic?
Yes everything is possible! And how do you know your real life is really real?

The conflict would be a result of something going on between the two people who are romanticlly involved. The romances if the last two games were okay but they lacked conflict that would have made them more interesting.

Would find it hilarious if things like this were included, and fully support it.
