I'm running an instance of windows XP on an Oracle Virtualbox in Ubuntu. Baldur's gate 2 works fine, but when I tried to install Jade empire for my daughter, it installs fine, but throws up this securerom message on running:

A required security module cannot be activated. This program cannot be executed (3000).
Please have a look at http://www.securom.c...m=module&c=3000 for further, more detailed information.

I don't want to get into the pros and cons of securerom, I just want to either get this working, or get confirmation that it's impossible so I can give up. Is it detecting something it doesn't like in Virtualbox? Does it need to connect to the internet?

Note I installed win XP SP3, ran windows update, then disabled the virtual network card. The entire point of this computer is that my kids can browse the web on linux with relative immunity, and the virtual windows can run without a virus scanner because it can't access the web.

Never mind, found the answer.

There seems to be an open ticket on the virtualbox site to allow securerom whatever low level access it needs to the dvd drive. Given it's 5 years old, I don't think virtualbox have any intention of allowing it.
