Mmmm... I find it a bit hard understanding all of what you are saying, but I'd rather not have firearms (except for the Qunari cannons).

Why not? An evolving society under war time stress will always adapt to the fight, all the way to the destructive decline of everything that suffers around that.

Short range pistols would be fun or even some further exploring of the explosives the Rogues already have. But I would say that some will not want guns mixing in their 'magicks!'

Someone should do a "gunpowder and magic" type of game eventually, but Dragon Age shouldn´t be it.

If the Qunari have gaatlok fueled cannons it seems kinda weird for them not to have thought of guns. Probably have them stashed away somewhere.

That game is Arcanum:  Of Steamworks and Magic Obscura.  And it's fantastic, though a little unpolished (and in some places, seemingly unfinished).

If Dragon Age decides to expand on the use of such technology, I'd prefer they hold off on it a bit longer.

No, no, they'll just keep that to a sub-plot where Isabela steals the Qunari propotype guns (which will look suspiciously like 47's silver ballers). After everyone gets mage'd in DA3, BioWare will make a sequel called DA4: Call of Booty, where Isabela runs around throwing space magic fireballs and shooting everyone on her quest to defeat the ninja invaders who destroy Thedas every 1000 years and steal their technology.

Right? :innocent:

I would LOVE that game.

I hope nil. They haven't even had a decent run of early medieval style warfare yet. I wouldn't mind having a musketeer type character later on, but I don't think we should see them in this time period. Not yet.

Firearms sorta exist in DA already.. well not firearms but Quanri dreadnoughts are armed with cannons.

But I hope it goes no further then cannons/siege weaponry.

EDIT: Anyway, Staffs that deal pysical damage, you could class as firearms :P

And bows in Dragon Age: Origins Awakening with the accuracy talent turned on. They seemed more like snipers that way:P

Can you imagine commandeering a single Qunari dreadnaught and then aiming its cannons at coastal cities?

No, because people using swords against those using guns is stupid.

Any kind of guns that would be permittible in DA3 wouldn't be worth a ****** in fast paced combat anyways.  We're talking renaissance era canons and muskets at best here, as in you get off like 1 shot every couple minutes and the accuracy and range are atrocious.  It would be okay to have rare glimpses of that, but overall the established fantasy should be kept in tact, which is swords and sorcery.

Oh yes I can imagine

The poor people of Thedas, I have a feelings that they will witness those cannons first hand soon enough.

Allready seen a firearm. Varric`s crossbow. Fires 200 arrows at once, even though a crossbow is pretty much know for being a very slow weapon. His crossbow also fires grenades and whatsnot. thats firearm enough for you. Arguably better than an AK-47 too.

Firearms as in cannons, sure. Firearms as in hand-held firearms of any kind-- no, that's highly unlikely.

Firearms and swords? Reminds me of the Warcraft games. Heavy juggernauts, battleships, dwarfen riflemen squads etc...

I'm not surprised. It seems one of the ways to make your fantasy world unique now is to add firearms to it with bows and what not.

Look at Warhammer, they have been doing it for 20 years. Or Fable, Warcraft, Guild Wars, even Project Eternity hints at it.

Historically though, if Cannon's exist, then it would be a matter of time to see the technology of firearms to come to past. One thing that was implied but quickly shot down was how Javaris was trying to get black powder so that it could become portable. Since the Qunari have advanced technology in the use of gaatlock anyway, so I can see it happening realistically down the road.

Just not now though, and as David said, likely never to happen anytime soon.

What about handheld cannons?

Shale does have big hands, after all. :-)
