Does this mean I get one last request before being sacrificed?  :D

Well... it is both better and worse than I imagined...

And this will consume so much additional time... guess my studies will suffer.

Mark the words, then click the appropriate button, enter the URL, and voila... so I think.

1) quoting will be fixed in our next build

2) the "subscribe" button works pretty much exactly like the old "add to my topics"

3) other things (colour scheme, misc parsing errors) will all get fixed as time permits - remember the big blue "BETA" at the top of the site :)

You can also use standard BBCode: {
url=}{/url} (with square brackets; it seems everything I type in square brackets is being interpreted as code).

For technology challenged people like myself, what is BBCode?  I've seen it in the box, but wasn't sure what it did/does?

Mark *what* words? Mark my words? (giggle...snort)

Seriously, you mean the link words? Hm....maybe I'll have to see what you mean next time I link.

And btw, when I go to click on a profile to request a friend, it just says, "add friend". Does that mean that I'll be "requesting"?

p.s. SO mad @ Urgnu for not requesting to be my friend yet. *pouts*

The BB is short for Bulletin Board. It's a standard syntax used by many forum software packages. BioWare only uses a very small subset of it, however: bold-face, italics, linking, lists, and quotes. The simpler codes are just standard HTML tags but with square brackets instead of < and > (e.g. {b}{/b} instead of <b></b>). You can see all the codes supported on the BioBoards here. I'm unsure where you can find a similar list on this site but I believe all codes on that list are supported here as well.

In addition, I noticed there was also some limited support for HTML tags (i, b, and a?). I wouldn't bother with those, though -- the BBCode is easier to use and does the same.

Requesting a friend request, will be right there.

I usually don't do requests (as I say in my profile), I get requested... B)

I'm not sure you have to toggle BBCode mode to use it. I do it anyway because I can't stand WYSIWYG editors on forums.

Smilies aren't being parsed (yet?). All the new smilies are inserted with {img}url-for-smiley-image{/img}. All the BioBoard smilies are located at http://forums.biowar...iley-name>.gif: cry => icon_cry.gif => Image IPB. Those that only use symbols (":(," ":p," etc.) all also have names ("frown," "razz," etc.). You can drag smilies (and any type of image) to the title bar and the browser will take you directly to it, displaying the full URL.

You are like THE MAN!  I would request that you be my friend, but I still haven't got that figured out.  When I click on a portrait, it just says "add friend".  I don't want to be presumptuous...

It files a request with the recipient, saying, "this-and-that has added you as a friend. Confirm/reject?" I don't actually know what happens if you reject...

Question - what do the stars at the upper right of a topic represent? How much people like the thread? How many people are in the thread? Fat grams? Calories?

It's probably some kind of approval system. Some people vote because they like the topic, some because they found out relevant information.

What? Like 4 stars flying v. 4 thumbs up? I dinna get it....

And Snoteye...I FAIL at putting in the smileys that aren't listed. I tried using your post to guide me through it, but I still sucked! I tried the {img}url-for-smiley-image{/img} but it didn't work.

Here, I will try to use yours verbatim... Image IPB

I have no idea, what it's supposed to do. I mean, if you don't like the thread you don't post there, right? What's the point of giving it an arbitrary number of stars? Unless, there will be contests like  *the best thread* and the result will depend on it.
