If it has to be an actual AR, I prefer the Collector AR more than the Mattock as after several hours of play my fingers / wrists literally cramp up using the mattock.

Still think the Indra is the best "AR" of them all. Sadly it isn't an AR and is relatively hard to get. ;)

Assuming Gold difficulty, and assuming level X weapons, using only an Assault Rifle Amp V gear and universal Piercing Mod V and Extended Barrel V, these are the sustained DPSs of the weapons, reload canceled:

Mattock - 1,022, 924 against armor
Revenant - 940, 792 against armor
Striker (magazine upgrade instead of piercing) - 771, 771 against armor
Argus - 717, 674 against armor
Collector Rifle - 667, 547 against armor
Vindicator - 646, 552 against armor
Phaeston - 639, 487 against armor
Geth Pulse Rifle - 569, 367 against armor
Avenger - 497, 368 against armor
Falcon (magazine upgrade instead of piercing) - 322, 322 against armor

If you add in Assault Rifle Amp III and Armor Piercing Ammo IV, the guns stay similar in ranking, though the Striker loses much of its advantage and is outdamaged even by a couple of the guns below it.

That's just the damage portion of it though, this isn't a list of which guns are better than others. There's also recoil, magazine capacity, burst damage, etc to look at. However, damage is one of if not the biggest factor in weapon strength, in ME3's current MP. I'd personally say the Revenant is roughly as good as the Mattock unless you can consistently shoot as fast as the system allows.

Falcon is a decent weapon for casters and it reliably staggers phantoms. It's very slow at killing bosses though. A high level Argus is also decent, although stability mod is almost mandatory. Mattock is also quite good, but my finger gets tired from rapidly tapping RT on the X360 controller after a while. Automatic rifles other than the Harrier are too imprecise for my taste

Mattock. It has a great sound, looks good & I find it very effective if you have a good aim with quick trigger finger.

It depends on what kit you are using, Falcon is godly with Incendiary and any kit that can detonate fire explosions.

Using the Mattock broke my mouse. No really, I clicked away and got results in game, but also messed up my left click. Lucky there's a software patch for the hardware problem, really.

Mattock is decent at everything, but the clicking is an issue. Phaeston and Vindicator start to loose effectiveness upwards of Silver.

I'm surprised Argus is still the focus of so much hate. I'd have thought given how long its been out, people would've figured out its big secret. (Same as Hurricane: most of the time, just hipfire the damn thing). Good accuracy while firing from cover. Great head-burst machine. Probably my favourite non-UR assault rifle. Collector AR is just mediocre, like an upgrade to the Phaeston more than anything. GPR is boring, and Revenant is my ex-favourite (the thing is surprisingly effective on multiple builds).

I believe the Vindicator and the Mattock are the two best non UR ARs.

The Mattock is good, if you can fire quickly and reliably for the length of a match. (I can't.) The Vindicator does too little damage for regular Gold play, and is currently outmatched by the Argus.

Mattock is an uncommon, and in some cases, is much better than the UR Assault Rifles.

Mattock, without question.

I gotta agree with the (seeming) consensus on this one. Mattock has to be the best non-UR assault rifle hands down. Packs a punch on any target, can get headshots easily even out of cover, light enough that carrying it won't destroy your power classes (nearly every power class picks rank 4b for power+capacity anyway...).

I've used the Phaeston, it is a respectable weapon but I wasn't a fan of its DPS. I felt I coulda taken down targets faster with a Mattock. Revenant is decent also but requires a lot of tweaking of the kits to get it stable enough to use.

Revenant packs the most style.

Really.

The Revenant and the Phaeston are the best non-ultra-rares, in my opinion. Before everyone was worshipping at the Harrier's alter, the Revenant was king of the ARs. I respect the Mattock, but I don't care for the feel.

On a TGI, though, the Saber is a boss.

I would say either the Falcon or Mattock, although the former has a different play style and use: AOE damage and crowd control (a.k.a. Stun Lockin')

Yup, it's the Mattock. I also like the revenant quite a bit.

That said, I'm not fond of the Mattock's feel. It's less an AR and more a heavy pistol. Oh, and my finger gets really tired after I play with it for a while.

Seriously though, nobody's going to "touch this"...?....?....?  Not even a "gonna go blind" joke?  tsk tsk tsk, I'm very dissapointed in my fellow ME3 crowd.  Somebody should have "hit that" lonnnnnng before the 4th page!Image IPB

For the Revenant, I insist on a piercing mod, because it's grouping is kinda scattered, and I hate losing damage to cover if I don't equip the piercing mod, so I always roll with that.

On ARs with limited ammo (Harrier, Saber) I like the extended mag pretty well.

Also, I generally insist on the Extended Barrel for all ARs. Gotta have that flat damage boost.

I can see how it would help the Saber, but the Harrier? It doesn't affect spare ammo, and it reloads lighting fast.

Look at it like this: it's 16 additional bullets you didn't have to begin with. It's also 16 extra bullets you get every single time you hit an ammo crate.
