So as the title says I have to get a bus (due to several factors) but how the hell do I get on the bus? I mean I've seen bus stops but I've never actually gone there myself.
I know it cost £2.00 but when I get where I need to go, how do I get off?

I'm serious here I've never used a bus so what the hell do I do? I need help!!!

EDIT- Thanks guys/girls I think I got it.

You smack the driver on the shoulder when there about to come to your stop.then hand them a tip and as you get off the bus, scream back to the bus you devil. thats when you point at the oldest person on the bus

You turn out your pockets, sit next to the burliest person on the bus, and tell them where you're going and where you live.

Well thanks for all the help, jeez can't ask anything anymore.

It is the internet so I probably should have lowered my expectations.

You're taking the bus for the first time??? Well, it sounds like you are overseas, but I'm sure its not too different from how it works on this side of the pond. Now, probably the easiest method is to just go out and ask somebody. It would probabaly be best to ask someone who is waiting at the bus stop or a train station, and they will more then likely be able to help you with how and/or where to get on.

With where you are going, you can probably look up a service map or the public transit website so you can plan your trip. If its just the bus and you are unfamiliar with the are you are going to, just ask/tell the bus driver what stop/street you are getting off at and he or she will usually let you know if you sit in the front.

It can seem like a daunting task for first time goers...but when you get the hang of it and of navigating around the city, it should a piece of cake.

I'm sorry. But you should know asking such a thing on the internet will get you trolled.

I can't tell you, as I've never ridden the bus system before either. I assume it's like trains, in a sense: they have a route, and if the bus is going past where you want to go, you take it. You get in the bus and give them your money, though they may do it differently--a card or something, you'll want to ask at a central bus station.

At least I'm not alone.
TBH it seems like the fates want me to take a bus since of the 5 people who can normally always take me where I'm going are unavalible tommorow.:crying:

Yes, I'm sure everyone here was going to genuinely believe you were having a serious panic attack about how to ride the bus. I was riding buses on my own at 10 years old.

But, I'll humor you.

1. Wait at the stop nearest to your house and make sure you are getting on the right bus by checking the bus route map.

2. When it arrives, get on.

3. Pay the driver.

4. Sit down in a seat. The back is the coolest place and totally where it's at. The front is better if you want to get off without falling over and looking silly.

5. When you come to the place you are heading (school, work, shops, doctors etc) you press the bell in plenty of time.

6. The bus stops and you get off.

Don't forget to thank the driver and have a nice day! :wizard:

I did think twice about putting this up but I was completly lost so I thought I'd take a shot.
Should've known it would backfire.

You ring the bell. Its a red button on metal poles.
The bus will then stop and you get off.
Thats how its done in Dundee, if it is done differently in other places I don't know.

So is the bus system really that different? I get the rout info from the web, wait at stop, get on bus and pay when I get on or in some cases get off the bus. take an aisle seat and wear headphones so the creepy guy won't talk to me. Pull the cord to signal the driver I want the next stop.
if it's a long trip, just don't fall asleep. it's a pain when you wake up and have missed your stop.

Okay but how do I get on? I mean if there are 3 people waiting for diffrent buses how does the guy/girl know to stop when none of those 3 people could be taking the bus?

Oh so just because this is the internet, you shouldn't expect much from us? You think you're better than us? Are you racist!? Are you ignorant!?

the driver has to stop if there are people there.  all he has to do is open the door and if no one moves then he/she closes door and drives away....easy peasy

Are you serious? <_<

You watch. If they don't get on the bus then you do. If they do and they are infront of you, you go afterwards. And if it's your bus, then you just put your hand out to the driver before he arrives so he knows to stop.
