Hi all -  I'm about 3/4 done with DAO and I'm playing a female in a relationship with Alistair. I've gotten hints from Wynne about there may be an ultimate sacrifice, so this got me wondering and I looked up toward the finale. I'm looking to see if I can have a happy ending of sorts - so I was thinking of keeping Loghain (though Alistair won't be in my party) so I can sacrifice him instead of Alistair or myself. My question is, if I keep Loghain instead of killing him, will Alistair still hate my character, or does keeping him have any impact on the stats? Since I'm playing as a female, I obviously can't shack up with Morrigan, so that leaves Alistair or Loghain's kid.

I'll play a few more times to cycle through all other options, but for this particular one I'd like to keep in Alistair's good graces (as much as possible) and avoid killing us both.  Not sure how to fully achieve this though?

You cannot have Al and Loghain, too. Al leaves if you spare Loghain, no matter what.



If you want to live past the archdemon, talk Al into a one night stand with Morrigan.



If you're a non-human or mage, or Al's unhardened, and you still want a happy ending, don't make him king and you still have to get him to take Morrigan's deal

If you keep Loghain alive, Alistair will hate you for it and either disappear or give you a really chilly reception in the epilogue. If you want to keep Alistair alive and happy, you'll have to execute Loghain and have Alistair do Morrigan's ritual. If you keep Alistair and don't do the ritual though, I've heard you can get some really emotionally powerful, heartbreaking endings.

There are a few happy endings you can have, actually. There's more potential to not have a happy ending with Ali, though, if you have ambitions of your own.

I found my sacrifice ending to be very satisfying. Mainly because I did not want the character to die, but could not bring myself to take the dark promise. A large part of my choices were influenced by her origin story.



All that being said, I made the choices true to my character and not to force and ending. Sure, it was bitter - sweet, but very good.

hah - I haven't even finished the game and am pretty POed by the options. sigh. Tis life, I suppose?

i got wicked depressed when i found out that there would be no truly happy ending for a romance with alistair..



in one of my games i had him have a one night stand with morrigan - yuckkk

Yah, I'm kinda upset by it. You figure, I've done most side quests and have worked hard at keeping everything copasetic and on par and have had 100% with Ali for quite some time. I've put in about 40 hours so far and am just arriving to save Anora and only because of one of Wynne's side comments did I even THINK that something tragic may happen I did my research. I'm glad I did, because if I put in another 10 hours of finishing everything before going to the final battle and saw I did something wrong or made a wrong choice and it resulted in some horriffic ending, I'd be SO POed I'd NEVER play the game again. *sigh* perhaps we can all just vent and complain and maybe we'll get a reprise in DA2? You have to have the option of at least ONE happy ending - have 30 tragic, that's fine - but ONE happy ending is all we want :/



Got that off my chest - once I finish this, it'll probably be a while before I play again. Or I'll go all mega hardcore and Poff everyone just because I can >
