Arguably the Wraith, Raider, GPS, and Graal can be swapped in. Shotties are VERY competitive in Rare/UR.

Hornet (with stability mod)

Just missing the cut are the tempest and Geth SMG. The latter which is purely demonic on a gethfiltrator. SMGs started out VERY different, now imo they are tight like shotguns. Collector SMG also has potential, but at level III, I really can't judge.

Pistols

Talon
Acolyte
Paladin

Pistols have clear toppers in the Talon and Acolyte. Arc Pistol is mediocre outside of a fully charged shot. Phalanx is decent, but lacks punch. Eagle X I think could be on this list, it has potential. Carny is basically a weaker Paladin with 3 more shots, and the Predator is a starter weapon.

Sniper Rifles

Javelin
Widow
Indra

Snipers are also well balanced in regards to status. Jav is vicious with drill rounds and ap mods on a Geth with HM. Black Widow is arguably on the list, dealing great damage with more rounds in a clip. Valiant is damn close as well, shooting faster than the Widow and requiring no reload canceling, perhaps at X it will top the list. Indra is great for nearly any class, low weight, high RoF, and decent accuracy. It's a Harrier with a scope. Incisor is slightly overshadowed due to its kick, however, on a Turian it outshines the Indra. Raptor's great for headshots (the scoped Mattock!), as is the Viper, which exceeds its status in performance. Mantis is a great starter weapon (easily the best), Kishock is brutally strong but has a bit of a learning curve. CSR is great for mooks, iffy on bosses, and the Krysae is a neutered beast that died when its shots stopped bypassing shieldgate.

Assault Rifles

Harrier
PPR

Just missing the cut are the Argus, which only drawback is its slow refire rate, thus necessitating a Ghost to maximize effectiveness, and the Typhoon whose spool time is outdone by the listed weapons' accessibility (PPR's dps more than makes up for charge). The Saber is great but has a learning curve, Revenant sucks in many classes' hands and lacks the punch is had in ME2. Geth AR is great now with it's headshot multiplier, but suffers when not scoring headshots. Falcon is Superb for casters, but is outdone in RoF by the Scorpion. Striker is decent for tanky classes with its overwhelming firepower. Collector AR is decent but is outshined by the formerly listed weapons. Valkyrie will prolly top or join my list when I get it past V. It was amazing in SP (though things are different in mp).

I've been using the Wraith since before it was cool.   Seriously, it's always been my favorite shotgun.  I love the fact that they buffed it, and now I see it quite a bit.  Anyway...

Shotguns:  Wraith, Piranha, Graal  (GPS, Claymore, and Reegar are great too, and better than most weapons in other classes)

Pistols:  Talon, Acolyte, Paladin

SMGs:  Hurricane, Tempest, Hornet  (try the Tempest with Devastator Mode if you haven't already.  It kicks serious butt)

ARs:  Typhoon, Mattock, Revenant (I don't have the Harrier or the PPR, which I think would be #1 and #2 on my list if I did)

Snipers:  Black Widow, Valiant, Widow

That doesn't do anything to disprove the Scorpion is not a gimmick.

When 90% of weapons fire bullets, and the Scorpion fires adhesive, proximity-detonated exploding orbs, how can you call that not a gimmick? That's pratically the defination of a gimmick weapon as far as I can tell.

it is an opinion. if you say you don't like a gun fine, thats your opinion. Don't call it a gimmick though. Its quite capable as a primary weapon. its like saying the harpoon, acolyte, falcon, PPR are all gimmick guns becuase they don't fire normal "bullets"

You can't call the Hurricane garbage. You said it yourself with the Raider, up close and personal, accuracy doesn't matter. And it is by far the best SMG. And since I am a noob I use Stability Mod and HVB, to get rid of it's two main drawbacks.

You forgot the part where every single shotgun laughts at the Hurricane at short range.

Really? Does the Disciple/Katana/Scimitar/Crusader not suck at close range? Good to know I guess, I'll really give those guns a try.
