Damn this game has the ugliest Mage gear Ive ever seen, the only desent looking robes are the ones you start with and Morrigan's outfit which only she can wear. Headgear is the worst. The staffs also suck   :(

Most armor looks great...

Anyone agree?

Nope, I think they look fantastic.

At least the ones you get later in game. The apprentices and mage robes don't look that exciting.

I tend to agree with the OP. The Archon / Tevinter robes just look wrong on Wynn ... I wish they had more of the basic mage type robes.

And I don't really like the condom headgear either. Although the real cowls look OK.

I agree the head gear is ugly, but for a female mage, I found a sexier outfit for my mage at the Wonders of Thedas called the robe of the witch. My husband and I both agree that it is much sexier them Morrigan's robes

Avernus' Robes look pretty cool, to be honest, and they're fairly top-end gear. For a Blood Mage.

I actually really like the Tevinter-style staffs - the metal ones with the polygonal heads. I think they look a bit like the Staff weapons from Stargate. Staff of the Magister Lords is pretty much the best staff in the game, and it follows this style (costs a fortune, though)

It's not only the magi gear. It's the low resolution textures in general. The game looks horrible. Look at the "open books" - especially in close ups. The grass, trees and other vegetation are awful too. No anti-aliasing either. Most other RPGs from 3 years ago look better than DA:O. It's great to concentrate on gameplay, but some eye candy would have been appreciated. ;)

Console version ftw xD.

But seriously, yes, the mage gear looks horrid. Even the leather gear that rogues use. >.< And since I use the console version I can't mod anything. :wizard:

Someone needs to mod the furry caterpillars off the shoulders of all the robes and remove that really lame neck collar. The best mage robe is this except it isn't int the game!!

By the way, that picture also shows a wicked staff design - which also is not in the game. Instead, we get metal lamps and crooked twigs.

And woodpieces for Staffs :P

Just kidding .. im all for variation like that. But really there are too few designs for robes and hats. And i am even overlooking the icon design just barely.

i agree the robes and staffs are terrible, especially the headwear for mages.

theres not much variation and the best stuff stat wise is the worst looking.

with abit of luck though we could get some more items via DLC

the robes are still terrible though^ i have that robe from wonders of thedas the really good one and it looks crap, its really not the sort of thing you'd expect a male, human mage to wear.

why can't we have some simple black cloaks? lol

Many years ago, Bioware published a very nice (and almost definitive) patch for NWN: the 1.69.

It added very much "flair" to the robes, the armour sets and generally, to all the dress' design: perhaps Bioware buddies could do the trick again…

AGREE. the robes and leather armor look terrible.

It would be nice if we could skin any graphic onto the armor.

One of the really, and I mean really disappointing things about this game is that what was shown in those promo videos is not even close to being in the game. From the armors, to the tattoos, to the faces, to the moves.

The use of meshes and textures is also a disappointing. From the "neckwear" - those silly collars every NPC has when they are wearing no clothes- that is meant to hide misaligned seams between head and torso meshes, to the small number of armor meshes, to armor sets not color matching -like the purplish Legion of the Dead shield not matching the black armor - yes, there's a lot to be desired in the visual category, especially after playing games like Oblivion or Assassin's Creed, which are much older games.

OMG, I so agree with you Jack-Nader !
I think the robe-design could have been done better.
And what the heck is it with those hats ? It's like wearing a tea-cosy on your head. Posted Image
The staves are okay but not very abundant.
Especially the ones that look like a fallen off branch from a tree are an eye-sore. Good thing the Winter's Breath came with a neat cold radiation effect.  Posted Image
I guess as for now, the robe Morrigan wears is best (and only for Morrigan ofcourse). Next best robe would be the ones that have Lesser-Tevinter-robe-kinda-look. Then comes the Archon look. Posted Image

I disagree for my female mage the Robe of the Witch looks much better.

Tevinter-style robes look horrid on guys. The rest however looks cool.
On girls everything looks horrible imo. Even Avernus/First Enchanter Robes that are of a nice unique design on males, on women they are just another recolour of the glitzy Chantry robes :S

I think the robes suck all across the board. And it seems impossible to create new ones too...

I wish they would have had more of a variety.  They all look so much the same.  I agree they could have been better.

Robes looks slightly better on female elven mages (the exception being the 1st enchanter robes and Avernus's, which both look just as they do on a human). But I agree with Laura Jean: Robe of the witch and the Chasind robes, of all things, are my favorite.

Chasind Robes were my favorite for my female mage. I didn't buy the robe of the witch, wish I had now. But I eventually made her AW in part to get her out of the blah-looking robes.

And I have to agree that most of the cowls are very disappointing. But from what I've read, all the "helm-hiding" mods have a tendency to unequip headgear when you don't expect it.
