I decided to try out the GPR on my gethgineer the other day. Just silver, since this is outside my typical playstyle.
I somehow ended up getting first place, even though I thought I was doing kinda poorly. I don't think it was a case of the rest of the team doing even worse, since the match wasn't that hard overall. I just wonder about the point system sometimes...
You ever get first place in a match where you didn't feel that you earned it?

I had both ways. I had one game where I thought I was rocking and I was in last place. I had one the other day with a lvl 1 Human vanguard so I could bag nova and shockwave points and was just hoping to survive and topped the list. It was a head scratcher, but I survived.

You probably were the only one putting a focus on damage. That might be what did it.

Once or twice I've used a missile on wave 10/extraction solely for the purpose of coming in first. No doubts that I didnt deserve it those times.

Maybe you were doing really well, and that's why the match felt easy. I had a similar experience this weekend. I was trying out a weapons-focused Human Sentinel for the first time, and I thought I was doing OK. I was getting shotgun damage, throwing mooks around, getting some BE's on bosses, and detonating a bunch of other people's Tech/Fire explosions too. But I never felt like I was carrying anything. I ended up finishing 1st in 2 straight matches (one of which I didn't join until Wave 3). Sometimes it's hard to tell.

Biotics. When you use a priming class, you will often top the scoreboard, even though you're not doing any more than the person detonating.

Each and every time I've ever played Infiltrator.
Its cheating, it really is.

I maxed the Piranha the first day it came out, put it on a GI and dropped into some groups Gold game halfway through the match on Cerberus. I ended the game over 200k and didn't expect it at all haha; shredding Atlases in a clip was fun.

Yesterday using unprepared Phoenix adept.
my weapon loadout are hurricane V
Gear: Adaptive War Amp V
and only using Warp ammo LV IV (or III, heck forget already)
i thought we will play silver (since i play with my friend) and it ended up we play Gold
then i got top scored with this guy
actually my confidence are zero on Gold when using him (i always using geth filtrator and Destroyer for gold or higher difficulty)
but i think because our team works well or just simply lucky

Rarely.
Mostly because I'm too busy blood raging both in and out of game. After awhile I may look at the score and go: 'woah....I had that big of a murder streak?' But if someone's ahead of me I won't care,or would I care if I top the scoreboard, leaving everyone in the dust.

was playing the asari valkyrie, running past everything with af, using warp where i could + have a hurricane V. there were 2 volus and one vanguard in the game with me..biotic explosions galore. At the end of the match i had 70k next guy down had 30k... yeah those explosions mostly counted toward me

Just yesterday I had a game as Destroyer on Gold. I died too often, and felt like I barely killed anything. Still ended up first with 120k or something points. Felt wrong.
