In the first game the only experience we had with the Batarians had me thinking that their "terrorists" were pretty pathetic, but then again they are going up against Shepard.
ME2 cemented in the fact that they're a large race in the Terminus theatre, and I did like that one sick Batarian in Mordin's recruitment mission that you could choose to save.
I also liked that one Batarian on the Citadel that the human keeps chatting up, before finally blowing up and begrudgingly apologizing when he realizes that they've both been through some serious sh!t.

All MP Batarians did is open my eyes to the fact that Batarians will stone-cold punch your head off, no qualms about it.

I really disliked them before, especially in Bring Down the Sky, but when I started playing as the Batarian Soldier, boy did I start to appreciate them a lot more. Ballistic Blades for the win!

I'm always considered MP characters to be individuals anyaway so their race meant nothing as to how they were as living things. It's just like in real life, just cause someone is one race that doesn't mean thats what they should be defined by. Turians don't have to be war minded, Krogan can be sweet, Asari can be greedy and mean, Salarians can be super tough, Quarians have proven in SP that they can be both really stupid and really heroic. The vorcha even have a blood lust built into their DNA but ones raised by non vorcha have learnt to control it etc.

Really there's no reason think that the Massive populations of ALL the species can't have bad and good to go with it. I'm sure all races have doctors and dictators.

So basically, I never throught Batarians as a race were bad, I'm sure there's even populations that object to the slavary and would like to abolish it so they could become a council race. But all the ones you do meet in SP did tend to be jerks, but one hour in trafic here on earth and you meet a lot more.

Ugly however..thats built in.

You slide across the map towards where your Shockwave flung the target you just melee'd.

When a batarian heavy melees an enemy, they lock onto to and slide, or "surf", towards them to compensate for enemy movement.

Perhaps with the hegemony gone they will be abit more... mellow. Though i have my doubts If they can even survive as a race post reapers.
