I agree with all, except Best Atmosphere.Deadpool9 wrote...
Technically, we as mature people should delay final judgment until the rest of ME3's DLC is released, but here's this, for now:
Best supporting cast...ME2
Best villain...Saren, ME1
Best enemies...ME2
Best DLC character...Javik, ME3
Best DLC...Lair of the Shadow Broker, ME2
Best comedy...ME3
Best horror...ME2
Best sci-fi RPG...ME1
Best performance by Shepard...ME3
Best atmosphere...ME2
Best Level 1...ME1
Best last level...ME2
Best music...ME3
Best graphics...ME3
Best gameplay...ME3
Best story...ME1
Best ending...ME2
In my opinion ME1 had best atmosphere, and i say this despite the fact that i liked ME2 overall more then ME1.
And as for Javik - he is not really DLC character because he was supposed to be in the game, even was supposed to be a catalyst. Cut ,say, Grunt out of ME2 and sell as first day DLC - and Javik will have a tough fight for his spot.
Atmosphere is a close one. I can see ME1 for it. I especially enjoyed the mysteriousness of following Nihlus only to discover the Geth and Saren betrayal and ultimately Sovereign, plus the sci-fi Alien feel of the Rachni. At the same time, I loved Afterlife, the seediness of Omega plus the Morinth seduction, the sadness/reminiscence of finding the destroyed Normandy, the horror of the Collector levels and Overlord, the Star Wars feel of LotSB, the intensity of passing through the relay, the ultra-intensity of the suicide mission.

Pretty much.
ME1 had the story, the rpg elements, the exploration, etc.
ME2 dumbed down the rpg elements, but made up for it big time with the characters, fleshing out of the universe and of course the Suicide Mission.
ME3 had it's moments but was ultimately a lot of wasted potentional.

Mass Effect 1 was an incredible game, se tthe tone for the series and provided countless hours of enjoyment... but it was flawed in certain areas.
In ME2 the developers really hit their stride - they improved the visuals, the audio, the combat, expanded the universe, gave us a bigger cast of characters, more to explore, some stunning battles and an amazing finale which brought together everything we'd done. Then we had the DLC, and Kasumi, Overlord, Shadow Broker, Arrival and the rest gave us even more incredible content.
ME3 progressed in some areas, regressed in others. The combat was improved again, but the story became much more linear and although some missions really were excellent, others were seemingly rushed. The mini games, planetary exploration and hub worlds and branching dialogue have mostly gone, and the game we were left with felt somewhat dumbed down from what we'd had previously.
So for me, ME2 is my favourite, because it feels like the most complete, polished and enjoyable game in and of itself.

I'm not so big on the 'true' RPG experience.
I'm bigger on the story and characters. ME1 had the best overall story, but ME2 was just better at everything else.
ME3 has some great missions, and the best combat, but it's grinding to play through it, whereas every time I play ME2, It feels refreshing, and it's been long enough that every ME1 playthrough makes me feel nostalgic.
I'm also one of the people who likes the mako missions (most of them). ME1 had a real frontier feel to it when exploring planets. Yeah they were copy and paste jobs, but I thought it was pretty cool tbh.

ME2. Great choices, side missions were good, Squadmate missions...well... a little too similiar but ovarall great, great clubs, great atmosphere and epic and I mean EPIC last missions where everyone in your squad is important and can die...simply beautifull.
ME3. Some great missions (Tuchanka, Rannoch) and squad members moving onboard normandy, having interactions with each other... that's all. The game was poor, small world hubs, fetch type quests, autodialoque, A B C ending and absolutly NO ending for players that imported saves from all three games. Nothing special, you just get what everyone else gets...this game wastes your 100+ hours of gameplay not giving you even a sense of victory :/
My choice? ME1 is the best.

In my opinion...the successor was always better than it's predecessor.
Which would mean ME3 is my favorite...followed by ME2 and ME1.
However, ME3 was only my favorite because of ME2 and ME1.
ME2 was only better than ME1 because of ME1.
Therefore...without ME1...ME3 and ME2 wouldn't have been nearly as good.
So in that sense...ME1 is my favorite.
It seems confusing but also makes perfect sense...in my head at least.

ME2 overall. It couples a decent story with much better mechanics and graphics. But loses some of the elements that made ME1 so great.
ME3 up until after Thessia was, in my opinion, managing to stay on par with ME2. It was better in some areas, worse in others. But after Thessia is really started to go down hill and just got worse and worse and worse...
So for me It would go (and I really had to have a toss up between 1 & 2)
1st. ME2
2nd. ME1
3rd. ME3

I'm not sure... I'll tell you in Christmas, after I try the first game.
Listen to Jade. Run. Do not get attached to the game or story. Buy a nice game like Skyrim or Dishonored and play that. You'll enjoy it much more in the end.

mass effect 1 like dragon age origins and baldur's gate will be on my top list of games for a long time to come
dragon age 2 mass effect 3 not so much they are lazy cash grabs that are linear and have loads of fetch quests and both almost ruined what good games came before them
