I had the most fun with ME2 (DAT SUICIDE MISSION), although ME1 is still pretty awesome.

ME3 has too many horrible parts to be my favorite, despite it containing lots of things I really like: Javik, Tuchanka subplot, surprisingly fun multiplayer, and the ability to ChargeNovaNovaChargeNovaNovaChargeHeadshotChargeHeavyMeleeChargeNova.

ME1:  Hi, there! Check this out!

ME2:  Does this kick ass or what?

ME3:  Hey look, multiplayer!  By the way, fvck you.  Sucker.

ME1 - good, though you can clearly see how experimental it was.
ME2 - just perfect! Everything had found it's place - from RP to game mechanics.
ME3 - elementary logic and common sense finally departed (or run screaming) leaving players alone with insanity. But game mechanics improved even further. Guess, this is what you get when RPG becomes just a game.

me1 - first place. i still get shivers when i hear m4 part2
me2 - second place. very close 2nd place - shadow broker was the apex of mass effect
me3 - more close to the 4th place, than to the 2nd. the plot was weak form the beginning but it was presented in a very beautiful way ... then came the last mission. despite the good combar mechanics, the game was the weakest of the sereis.

ME1 > ME2 > ME3

ME1 was the best. (I played it on Xbox 360 a few years ago before I ever had a PS3).

I just feel that with ME1 Bioware had a really good idea going and they knew where they wanted to go with the game. Then ME2 came along and they kind of got off track a little. And then they went completely off the rails with ME3. I really find it hard to believe that the same people who made ME1 are also the ones who made ME3. All I want to know is "WHAT HAPPENED?!?"

Listen to Jade. Run. Do not get attached to the game or story. Buy a nice game like Skyrim or Dishonored and play that. You'll enjoy it much more in the end.

Uh, I'm a PS3 player... Won't that "nice game" Skyrim run very slowly, thus preventing me from getting DLCs?? As for Dishonored... from the sounds of it, it is a stealth game... Well, if you ever see me playing Assassin's Creed, you will notice I will kill 5 people to steal from one guy... Same for the Metal Gear Solid series... except I would get caught several times before "sneaking" to my destination. Yeah, sneaking is not my strength...

Well, I guess I could attempt saying my favorite of the... trilogy... at this point... to prevent, what was it called?? Derailment?? Eh, too tired. Well, I REALLY love the gameplay in 3... and multiplayer... Don't judge me! Running around, charging as an Asari, or punching/beating enemies as a Batarian is fun!! As for story... well, I still don't really get it... giant cuttle fishes from deep space trying to make smoothies out of things every fifty thousand years... Right, that makes sense... As for characters... ME2 had Aethyta... well, the third one did, as well... Okay, I just like Aethyta... As for Atmosphere... I don't know, I don't breathe in the game...

Well, they are kinda tie, but maybe the first game will shed some light... Although the third game wins in gameplay.

if you really want to play the game, make sure you have lots of icecream in the freezer. you will need it after you hit the ending.

ME2. What it (slightly) lacks in story it more than makes up for in better balanced combat and classes.

I'm glad some people are giving acknowledgement to ME3. While you may not like the ending, there's no denying its a very, very, very good game.

Its hard to pick my favorite out of the 3. ME1 had a great story, an even better atmosphere, was an incredible introduction to the ME universe and its the one that fills me with the most nostalgia. There's small details such as the film grain/motion blur, which really made it special from the other two and gave it a unique feel. However it was comparatively shorter, featured many recycled planets and had the weakest gameplay in the series.

ME2 was an epic game. The story was great again, the atmosphere from the very get-go was brilliant and the combat was vastly improved. Suicide mission is one of the greatest experiences I've ever had playing a game and was executed perfectly. However drawbacks for me were the exclusion of certain characters (Ashley and Wrex), planet scanning, "Can it wait a minute, I'm in the middle of some calibrations" and honestly for me its the hardest of the 3 to replay, namely because of the scanning and the copious amounts of merc/mech side-missions.

I really enjoyed ME3. I thought it was the strongest in the series up until the end, but with the extended cut I'm actually satisfied with the way things turned out. The combat was the best aspect of the game, but I felt the story was strong and the reaper war was played out very well. There's a ton of special moments (grunt's last stand, mordin/legion's death, leaving earth, whole of rannoch, I could go on) and in the end I thought it turned out to be a fitting conclusion to the trilogy.

I can't honestly pick a favorite one out of the 3, but if I absolutely HAD to, I'd probably put ME3 > ME1 = ME2

Xboxs are pretty cheap right now. Sell your PS3, buy a 360, buy Skyrim, buy Halo. You could also join the PC Master race, but that's more expensive.

Mass Effect 1 is the only part of the trilogy I like.
I absolutely hate Mass Effect 2&3 for terrible plot (well, ME3 plot is better than ME2 plot, but still terrible) and Shepard's attitude.

Best DLC character...Javik, ME3

[...]

I agree with all, except Best Atmosphere.
In my opinion ME1 had best atmosphere, and i say this despite the fact that i liked ME2 overall more then ME1.
And as for Javik - he is not really DLC character because he was supposed to be in the game, even was supposed to be a catalyst. Cut ,say, Grunt out of ME2 and sell as first day DLC - and Javik will have a tough fight for his spot.

I know you're just giving an example, and that I'm now off thread topic, but I'd go with Javik over Grunt without breaking a sweat.  Grunt faced prejudices that create sympathy in the player, had a solid character arc in growing maturity and experience, and showed inspiring heroism in ME3.  But Wrex's bad-ass attitude overshadowed him, for me, which made me like Grunt a little less.  Also, the exceptional irony of Javik, his harsh opinions on everything...he out-renegaded Grunt.  I kept coming back to hear what he had to say, while I didn't care as much about Grunt's thoughts.  I even took Cmdr. Javik on the final run to the beam so that he could have his chance for revenge, as the avatar of vengeance and the voice of the Protheans.  Granted, if I had the option, I probably would've taken Grunt as the other squad mate, too.

I'd say 1 because it sets things up great. 2 was a perfect continuation and 3 was looking to be the perfect way to end the trilogy till the last 10 minutes. However my favourite individual moment was definitely my Shep and Liara saying those three words. Rob Shep was happy that day.

Well, as a PS3 player I can't delegate my opinion just yet, but from my observing of play through's on youtube, ME1 is really good in terms of what attracts me (The overall immersion of the story, introduction to the universe, crazy plot twists and amazing arcs), but I have played through ME2 32 times... ME3? Twice. And that was only to differentiate the LI dialogue on Leviathan and during the beam scene between my Liara playthrough and my Tali run. I can seriously run every single variable through my head about ME2 and I will have a play through for most of them (The one's I don't are usually ambiguous and morally repulsive). I already know I will love ME1.

So I would rank them preferably like this:
1. ME2
2. ME1
3. ME3

I picked ME2 overall. The intro and ending mission/sequence tipped the scale for me.

ME1- Technical and gameplay issues, but loved the atmosphere, music and overall story arc. Nostalgically looking back at this one.

ME2- Loved the characters and environments/hubs - alot darker with more light sources compared to ME3's openness.(Really miss those lens flare things) But not an enthralling plot, most polished out of the 3.

ME3- Most emotional game and 'controversial', graphically most daring/improved. Loved the piano score and cinematics. And MORDIN. i dont even have to, just his name - MORDIN.

I have to say ME2. I bought ME1 and 2 together and played them back to back. ME1 got me into the universe, but ME2 got me addicted. I'm a sucker for immersive worlds and good characters, and ME2 had that in abundance.
