ME1 - Best - Story progression, atmosphere multiple ways to complete missions.
ME3 - Mid - Best combat, some cool set pieces.
ME2- Worst- Good characters....that's all. 0 trilogy story progression, corridor shooter with meh mechanics and mediocre set piece/ level design.
Since the purpose of the series was to establish an immers-ive narrative spanning 3 games, the game with the best narrative wins.
I feel people who like ME2 best either:
1. Haven't played ME1 or played ME2 first.
or
2.Are given to sensationalism over actuall content.

The sad thing is that ME3 could have been the best of the series. It did a very good job of mixing ME1 and ME2. However, Bioware dropped the ball oncve the game took Shep back to Earth near the end.
