There are very few things in the series I would completely scrap, head to toe. That is one of them.

It's not Mass Effect related, but it does have to do with one of the underlying themes of this game (exploring planets and alien cultures).

Plenty of stories take place in space. Most of them suck.
Shepard made the story great. The crew made the story great. Heroism made the story great. And all of those things can exist in any setting.
Space would be beautiful on a ship like the Normandy and with a crew like Shepard's. But the ending throws both of those under the bus. And without them (or more generally, without what Shepard and the crew represent) , it just doesn't mean much to me.

Shepard's epic journey was reduced to some fable told by a creepy old grandpa.
I'm no fan of that scene in the slightest, but this statement is utterly ridiculous.

You guys realize who the old man is? It's Buzz Aldrin, the second man on the moon. Mass Effect is a space exploration game in a way, so they hired him to do that scene. For some that scene inspired some about our own space travel and some day we will be living outside the galaxy and such.

That's how I viewed it too. I thought it was a nice little coda there at the end and a nice little nod from Bioware/EA. For me, it was a great scene to end the trilogy and set up nicely for future adventures in the Mass Effect universe. Just one more story...

Sarrano was at least funny.
So before I do another play-through, is it skippable, or will I have to get up from my computer for few minutes?...

"Weren't you listening? Shep is dead, there are no more stories. But if you want to hear more space stories, I've got one that takes place not in the Milky Way, but in a galaxy, far. far away...."
Anyways, what bugged me most about that scene was Shep being referred to as "The Shepard." Also, if everything gets rebuilt regardless of ending choice (aside from refuse, which gives you a different stargazer scene), how is it that these people who have not yet achieved space travel (which does exist because again, things were rebuilt long before stargazer was born) heard about Shep?

I didn't much care for the scene, or "the Shepard" reference either, but I don't see what's creepy about the Stargazer. What's creepy about an old man telling a story?Binary_Helix 1 wrote...

But I thought the Buzz Aldrin 'cameo' was awesome. I just wish he had been used better.

You might as well turn off the game at that point.AkodoRyu wrote...

I mean, why not? The only thing that comes after that is the "Please buy our DLC" disclaimer.

Hmm, the fact that it's cheesy doesn't make it detestable, at least for me. There are many cheesy moments and cheesy lines in the ME games. The fact that these two characters are complete strangers makes the scene feel odd for me. If it was, say, Garrus telling his son about Shepard, I would've found the scene awesome.elegolas1 wrote...

This.
And yeah. I hated the Stargazer.
In the original ending no one got any sense of closure. At all. You have no idea who survived the war or not. You have no idea if there's a civilization still functioning or not. You have no idea if the Normandy crew could survive on that planet they crashed on or not.
And instead of showing the crew being together and hopeful for the future BioWare drops yet another new character on our heads that we care nothing for. And this is supposed to be some kind of sign of hope? Never mind Buzz's terrible voice acting chops or the fact that I cringed when I heard the little kid say "The Shepard".
But mainly I don't know these people. I don't care about these people. If you wanted an epilogue that inspired a sense of hope for the future it would be the Normandy team. All of them from throughout the series standing somewhere by a Shepard monument as the universe picked itself back up.
Ya know?
But... whatever.
