Just an opinion thread, I want to know what everyone thinks
each games highest highs and lowest lows are.
And to keep it varied, I'm going to go ahead and say in advance its assumed the
endings of ME3 were the lowest point, so please say something a little
different. Variety people!
And yes, I posted this in the spoiler free board as well. This one is just far more active.
ME1:
High: The RPG aspects. I don`t mind the more streamlined skill system in the
later games, but I do enjoy being able to build certain characters certain
ways, and the fact that you miss out on gear or items if you neglect to bring a
character with high decryption, or high electronics. It was a variable of play
I liked, and helped you stray from the `just pick your favorite squad member`
stigma.
Low: Sadly, I'd have to say the most disappointing aspect of ME1 is a technical
one. On my most recent playthrough (completed yesterday) there were points of
action where the framerate bogged down so much I couldn't tell which direction
I was facing. The slow loading textures are an annoyance, but the framerate was
undoubtedly my biggest complaint.
ME2:
High: This game was my favorite as far as character interaction between
missions went. ME3 was almost as good, I just prefer a lot of 2s personalities
to 3s. The superb voice acting in conjunction with (mostly) interesting
characters, including some of my favorite in the series (Miranda, Thane,
Mordin) made it without a doubt my favorite part of the game.
Low: Just because I know it was an option early in development, I would have
liked more control over where I go and when. I didn`t like how it made you go
after certain squadmates, then give you the next group after a plot mission. I
would have liked to pick who I get and when. It would have added a more fun
dynamic to have different characters in different areas, and would have opened
up plenty more dialogue and comments from those characters.
ME3:
High: The set pieces. Some of the scenes and battles were so insanely grand; it
blew me away (and still does) every time I play it. I hate to say
something so aesthetic was my favorite aspect, but it was. Or at least it was
close. A close second (if not tie) was how they dealt with many character
deaths. I won't spoil anything but some of the character deaths were real
heartstring pluckers.
Low: The romances (sort of). Don't get me wrong, if you were romancing
someone from the crew of the game you were treated to some of the best romance
scenes of the entire series. My problem lies in the fact that my two favorite
romances for MShep and FShep are Miranda and Thane. Non party members got jipped
on the romance scenes. Big time.
Opinions: The highs and lows of each ME

ME1
Highs: Setting the scene. Orienting you to the ME universe. The character interactions. The sense of exploration.
Lows: Recycled maps. Combat.
ME2:
Highs: Graphics, improved combat, character development and "getting to know your crew/squadmates".
Lows: Limited exploration. Side missions felt like arbitrary filler. Mining was tedious.
ME3 (story mode only, not MP related)
Highs: The atmosphere and sense of urgency. Graphics and combat. War Assets collection is better than mining. Number and variety of weapons.
Lows: pre-EC endings. No real interaction with Harbinger. Not seeing War Assets in action. Only one Hub world (I understand that because of the Reaper invasion that the Milky Way Travel Agency is shut down, but there should be at least one)....and the Liara conversation glitch is annoying.
