If the templars used arlathven to wipe out the Dalish, i'm pretty sure i'd abandon my tendancy to play nice moderate peace seeking characters and do everything the game would allow to persue an utterly vindictive mission to to kill, injure or sabotage the templars at every effort.

I am pretty sure that Dalish elves,being apostates and heretics in the eyes of Chantry will be one of the opposing factions to you, which you will have to deal with. Having them all in one place might just solve things quicker.

I don't think that Dalish are interested in the Mage/Templar/Chantry conflict. But if they have the chance to take back their past glory or their ancestral land, they can be force that can't be neglect.
Majority of the Dalish want to live their life (with their traditions), as far as possible of barbarians humans...

For centuries the various human powers have generously allowed the Dalish to hold these gatherings. For the elves to take advantage of that historic courtesy to launch an attack on their human neighbors would be a despicable betrayal. In other words, exactly what I'd expect out of the Dalish.

So we've discussed the Dalish being Heathens, but it seems to be more of a cultural thing, right? After all we have not seen many examples of humans worshipping the Old Gods, though we have seen some human dragon cults. So, in other words, if you're not Dalish then you probably have never heard of Sylvaise, Ghillannain, etc. Do we honestly think the Chantry would see this as "competition" for believers? And do the City Elves all squeezed into their alienages worship the same gods as the Dalish and would they be invited to a "Joint Worship" service at an Arlathven?

It isn't as much about the Dalish being heathens, as it is about the Dalish being ruled by Apostates even Maleficars.
