I'm really new to gaming and have never really *clicked* with a game until DA:O - but now that I've found the right type of game for me,  I'm not sure where to go from here? RPG is clearly the right genre, but other than Divinity 2 I have absolutely no idea what games I should be looking at. Could anybody recommend some good, recent (ish) RPGs to me? Or ones that are coming up? I see you guys talking about Mass Effect all the time, should I be checking it out?

For me, it's the personalisation of your PC right from their appearance up that really appeals, as well as the emphasis on morality and consequence for your actions. Looking around it seems like these things aren't neccesarily always integral to RPG games, which is why I'd love some advice  Some games I look at seem to be primarily about killing things..

I always loved "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion", i think it is by far the greatest RPG ever made.

Ya, its kind of like Dragon Age, but the beginning to Oblivion sucks, really really badly, you just have to close the first gate, then it gets really good

Oblivion is alright. It's a tad slow and dull though.

If you like RPG's try the Baldurs Gate series, they're a few years old but still play well.

Give Mass Effect a try also ~ Dragon Age in space!

Mass Effect is wonderful. Its much less of a space opera than SW, and more realistic to boot -but still has that galaxy far far away charm to it. Its not as light hearted as DAO, and of course it *can* be a shooter. Which can be a plus.

Also, if you use a PC, and haven't played KOTOR, I would strongly recommend it. The 5 year old graphics aren't so bad when you can have everything on the highest setting. Again, very similar game play but with a slightly different feel. This is definitely a space opera. Romance and everything, of course.

Hehe, not as lighthearted as the game that trumpets its own dark-and-edginess, calling itself a dark fantasy. That's rather... not lighthearted. '_'

I hated Mass Effect, there was never anything to do and all the buildings were identical!

Well in most docking ares, like where you first enter any zone... You're probably in some sort human embassy. So they all look similar. And I think the idea of everything looking similar is part of futuristic fiction. Its the idea of higher efficiency and inexpensiveness in equivalence.

When you get further into zones, there is SOME variation in architecture. But not much, admittedly.

Anyway. There was plenty to do! On and off your ship. Tons of characters to interact with. Tons of side quests. Exploring. Etc.

Its fun :((( I promise.

And the whole time you play DAO, everything that you know to be all important is undermined by Loghain's slandering. The only person that takes you seriously (ingame) is yourself. And your party. Makes for pretty light hearted gameplay IMO.

Demon's Souls is pretty cool. I don't know if I'd call it an RPG though.
