when i got this gun way back i tried it and put it away because i don't like how it works. for some reasons it also makes my hand hurt after a few games. i put it back on my krogans for the challenge. i hope to finish it soon and can go back to use my trusty claymore.

but till that happens... any tips to master it?

Easiest way is to solo in bronze to get the hang of it at various ranges. Use a krogan with high health/shields. Charge it up when you can for double damage. With practice you can shear off heads at 100 meters.

no it is not.
i prefer lore friendly weapon loadouts, so i use graal on krogans. i know ppl don't like carnage, but on my kroguard i use it (along with BC). basically i carnage everything, they staggered, then i headshot them with this amazing weapon with a charged shot. this way it's a one shot killer, however it's a bit slow, and i ususally don't score too much. but it's fun and brutal.

BC is for emergency, and i skip barrier for good. i know, i know...."a carnage kroguard is not good". but it is.

i currently use the blade and smart choke. also, does shredder ammo work on this gun? damn guardians are very annyoing

If you just want to do the challenge, I suggest you put it on an Asari Vanguard and solo Bronze. Stasis and then shoot the head. Biotic charge when necessary.

i usually run with the barrel and blade; not sure that smart choke affects it. it's not a weapon, though, that can penetrate shields or cover (even with ammo), but with some practice you can mail-slot the guardians

Batarian soldier works well with this gun, ballistic blades staggers them and sets you up for headshots. If there is one thing the graal is good, it would be headshots. Also avoid the shredder mod, or heavy barrel as projectile weapons do not gain any bonuses.

I feel sorry for people when I see them trying to use this weapon, its once of those guns that simply doesn't work for me like I feel it should do. Graal and the striker potato launcher are very underwhelming.

Tips on using a graal are simple - no ap mod, accuracy mod instead. Have some method of making guardians raise shields. Learn to salvo - ie do the charged shot, followed up by uncharged clip. Found graal working best on Batarian soldier and sent mostly. Sent because he just lame freezes enemy heads in place and soldier, which is actually even better - because b-blades become a part of salvo:
b-blade to stagger, salvo in the head, stagger from bb explosions, falcon punch, another b-blade. If it's still alive - it's a top tier mob which is about to do something lethal - so please take cover and reload.

edit: About the host thing. I'm playing from Russia and mostly joining, which means gradual below average ping with most users. When ping is average, i.e. not buggily slow, if you take time to use graal - like a hundred battles, you'll learn to balance for latency. It's just a hand skill like guitar - comes with practice. However the thing about hands hurting on all charge-up guns is too true. That's why I stopped using these guns despite loving them - they need quite some practice per week to keep the ability  to use them, which is hard because hands do HURT.

im not a big fan of the graal. Ive seen people use it to some success, but nothing amazing. I have to do it as well for the challenge and im not looking forward to it :/. But yea i ave noticed that being the host helps a lot with it and using a class that has something that can distract enemies (decoy for example) really helps out a lot.

Funny thing is I put it on my batarians and did fine with it for when I was going for both Graal challenges. I got them both done so I don't have to use it anymore. I'm going back to using the Kishock cause I'm trying to get those two challenges done.

If you are able to master it the gun is very devastating, the headshot damage is outrageous. It also has decent enough stopping power when it comes to boss. Trust me when I say your opinion of the graal may be the only thing underwhelming here... also the striker.

Zoom in when using the gun and you will perform headshots easily, no need for the accuracy mod. If fired from the hip it's horribly inaccurate at mid to long range.

as one of the folks pointed it out earlier, use it to solo bronze to get the hang of it. I use it on krogans and batarians myself. Good for minions with no charge, for the bosses i would suggest firing off a charged round followed by a rapid one, comes with a bit of practice but yes it is a good gun. And take care the way you hold the mouse.

I too hated it at first, now i'm loving it more and more each time i use it.
Tips:
-Be patient with the graal, wait for a good moment to shoot and try for headshots.
-If you don't know how, learn to reload cancel (check around BSN). 3 shots without reload cancel are a problem.
-If no one is around, charge the shot. If you are in a fire-fight, never charge shots: your DPS will lower.
-If possible, use any power thats staggers. That will line up some beatiful headshots.

Graals are fecking brutal, smart choke and either shredder or drill/ap rounds, they do work on the graal tried n tested! i have done the challenge and still use it, it staggers pretty much everything on mp!
batarian sol/sentinel are good 4 the job, submission net if you stuggle with handling it or my fav is soldier, inferno nades + graal + ballistic blades all high damage plus dam over time.
theres nothing more satisfying then turning a banshee into a spikey cactus head

Dunno, Graal works pretty well when you just spam it... heh, well you do have to aim and all that, but there is no hitmarkers.

Use stagger power like overload, energy drain. Warp and incinerate work pretty well too.

Overload > stagger > shoot
Warp > hit > stagger > shoot
Warp > target dodge > shoot

Graal is good for Batarian sentinel because both shockwave and subnet are suitable for setting up headshots, offhost as well. Graal is also good to apply ammo powers such as incendiary ammo to detonate them with shockwave.

Also forgot to mention it works surprisingly well on the Asari Justicar, Reave causes most lower tier enemies to stagger, and when coupled with Warp ammo it is extremely deadly.
