Hi there, I've been playing (and loving) Mass Effect 2 as Femshep, and I just finished the Shadow Broker DLC (awesome!).

Here's my problem: I romanced Liara in ME1, but in ME2 she wasn't around, so I started having fun with Kelly. We've been flirty, and had dinner, and no she's feeding my fishes.

Then I got the SB DLC and at the end, there's the inevitable conversation with Liara: "What about us?"

Is Liara a valid love interest in ME2? If so, could telling her that I want to get back together ruin things with me and Kelly (especially in regard to ME3)?

Right now I value the relationship with Kelly more, so I don't want to jepordize that by saying to Liara that I'm still interested... But I'm also intrigued by the effects of having Liara "on the hook" in ME3. Will reaffirming things with Liara ruin my chances with Kelly?

Thanks!

Kelly doesn't count as a love interest in ME2. You can't romance her really as shown by the fact you don't get the Paramour achievement even if you have a date with Kelly and she does her dance as a thank you for being saved from the Collectors. You can even two time her, and so triple time Liara, and Kelly won't even notice.

Sortaromancing her does have at least one effect in 3 but it's nothing to do with any of the real love interests. Might be wrong as I only played a bit of 3 but I think the only fallout is if you've romanced Thane, Garrus or Jacob (Miranda, Tali or Jack for Blokeshep). If you play Lair of the Shadow Broker it'll start there, and Liara can make some nasty remarks. The one about Femshep seeing Thane is cutting and the one about Garrus is quite funny.

PsiFive is right. In LotSB, Liara comments on your love interest (whoever that may be) and this is also your chance to re-affirm/re-establish her as your love interest, whether or not you've strayed.

But Kelly, (perhaps oddly), doesn't count as a proper love interest. You can romance her with no consequences for your romances in ME2 and ME3. No-one says anything about you hitting on Samara either (although that doesn't go anywhere anyway).

Really? I've read that you can romance Kelly in ME3? Also that she will only dance for you at the end of ME2 if you're not dating anyone else? :-/

Pretty sure I've had the dance with multiple Sheps of both genders with ongoing LIs. And in LotSB Liara had nothing to say either to my Blokesheps or Femsheps that they'd been cracking on to Kelly when she'd been the ME1 LI, but she got positively vicious over proper LIs with. May be misremembering it but as far as my recollection goes I think that is incorrect and you can date someone else and still get the dance. Other things will certainly stop the Kelly fling including dance from happening - it is pretty easy to avoid if you don't want it. My ME3 play is limited but as far as I knew the extent of the Kelly relationship there is fish, listening to how scared she feels to be anywhere near the Normandy because of the bad abduction memories it brings back, and keeping her from getting her silly head blown off.
