I definitely wasn't a fan of Teltin etc, but of the ideal represented by Lazarus Cell and Invasion Petrovsky. Cerberus being humanity's way to cheat, akin to the STG. Breaking rules intended to enforce Council hegemony and creating things like EDI without atrocities. I want that group reborn.

It never existed in the first place. All it ever was was TIM's own speciesist power trip, with him using idealists for his own ends, and every one of them and their ideals were disposable from the beginning.

It's more that Petrovsky is the
last straw. I am sick of watching characters I like get mangled. I am
sick of a story that doesn't let me decide what to think, but must be
forever shouting in my ear. I am sick of the pursuit of excellence and
advancement being painted as a villainous trait. I am sick of the naked
appeals to emotion.

Bioware has some presentation issues, but the "pursuit of excellent and advancement" was never evil. Doing so while leaving a light-year-long trail of corpses was.

QFT x 1000000. I have nothing more to add.

@Xilizhra:
It is a problem if the only group explicitly pursuing those ideals is also evil.

I agree. Maybe it won't decide my final verdict, necessarily, but for a team that prides itself on writing (specifically characters/universe) they can be rather 1-dimmensional when it comes to allies/adversaries.

I'd like to see something different there.

I say again, do we even know if Petrovsky is running Omega? TIM probably either killed him or tried to have him killed.

It is a problem if the only group explicitly pursuing those ideals is also evil.

But it's not the only one. Most every government that we see, including the Alliance, is doing so.

TIM definitely didn't kill him. We have screenshots of Aria attempting to throttle him.

Interesting, but TIM doesn't like loose ends, and I doubt he'd just leave Petrovsky around unmolested...

If we are given the option to side with Petrovsky i certainly will do so. I never really liked Aria and her dictatorial attitude. But... i think we all know how this is gonna turn out. Aria kills Oleg, gets back Omega and we get a few of her pawns as "War Assets".

. And the twist ending for why we will hate Petrovsky, he's going to be indoctrinated, TWIST ENDING

OP, ME3 is a great game but is not an RPG.

Have no idea who this petrovsky is or what he has to do with Mass Effect.

He's the "general" of the Cerberus forces that took over Omega.

People cling on to him in a desperate act to show that Cerberus isn't filled to the brim with retards.

He's also very bland, much like the other Cerberus personnel we've had the misfortune to work with. Like Miranda and Jacob. Runs around and quotes generic war speeches/strategies.

Even the multiplayer characters are more interesting than him.

Oh, if we get the choice, I'll make it differently depending on the Shepard I'm playing. I respect Aria for seeing the big picture clearly and for helping me out. But she is a crime lord after all, and Petrovsky a member of what could be humanity's STG if someone else but TIM was at the helm.

I'm not altogether fond of anyone's STG, and certainly wasn't inclined to help out the salarian one all that much.

Hey, my Shepard was forced into collaborationist suicide by the Reaper King dressed up as Dennis The Menace. And he was like this guy who would never commit collaborationist suicide just because the Reaper King told him to.

Maybe after Omega you'll have some pale facsimile of an idea of my frustration.

Yes, and odds are reasonably high I'll oppose that.

And considering our "good guys" are an oligarchy out only for its own power, we need people like Oleg and Miranda and the organization they thought they were serving.

I prefer to avoid working with evil bastards.

What, the ones ensuring that humans will be a part of the oligarchy and get to keep our own power? Do you really think anyone in Cerberus thought they were fighting to uplift the place of the elcor or the vorcha in the galaxy? It's a wholly self-interested organization, and I'm uninterested in fostering those.

Being the lackey of a vicious evil ex-dictator(aria) determined to renew her brutal reign.
vs
saving human colonies from being abducted and goo-ified

Not sure i see the connection

The Alliance is a representative democracy (I suppose the parliament appoints the councilor) and the Asari are a pure democracy. The Salarians are a monarchy, and the Turians are a meritocracy. All council members answer to their respective governments. Cerberus answers to a single unelected individual who is accountable to no one. The council has certainly much more legitimacy than Cerberus. Sure, you can replace TIM, but the problem remains. I don't think a civilized "nation" needs such an organization.

The Council. A three or four man oligarchy that is primarily concerned with perpetuating the power of the founding duo of nations. The asari and salarians break the rules that they themselves set up and do so with impunity. If they're going to cheat, so should we. The trouble is that TIM is callous to to the point of insanity.

Then you'll never be fostering anything. Everyone is out for their own interests, even when they work together with others. Why do you think we see co-operation as a virtue? It *usually* results in a benefit. For both parties. Organizations like the STG and Cerberus are for situations where that doesn't work.
