So, let's see, either the Catalyst is completely trustworthy, or no matter what a 16-ton anvil will fall on my head? *groan* This point that you're trying to make is ridiculous.

And Kai Leng continues projecting.

Nah, the point is not ridiculous. Only your strawman is.

If you think Synthesis is eugenics, diversity-eradicating, and brainwashing... then you simply don't understand what it is or what's going on in it.

Okay.

So what is it?

CosmicGnosis wrote...

Fine then. Destroy it is.

I'll choose to obliterate all synthetic beings so you can feel comfortable with your organic freedom.

And you! Grow some cojones!

War is a necessary evil. People will die in them no matter what shortcuts we try to take to get out of it, but that does not mean we can avoid war when all other alternatives are going to lead to even more terrible things.

The geth signed up for this war. EDI told you to your face that she would rather die than surrender to the Reapers.

Take a look around - Joker's entire family, dead. Javik's entire species, dead. Mordin, dead. Thane, dead.

Urdnot Wreav. Dead. Nihlus Kryik. Dead. Rila. Dead. Tarquin Victus. Dead. Fai Dan. Dead.

Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead.

Dead.

There's only one way to make absolutely sure that the Reapers can never hurt anyone again.

Make them dead.

Okay.

So what is it?

It is improving all organics, it is bringing all species together removing differences and it is teaching them the way of partnership with Synthetics.

Organics are able to interface with technology as synthetics are able to.

And that's literally about it. No selection of desirable genes, no erosion of differences (aside from one capability otherwise unique to synthetics), and no alteration of personalities. Simple.

Sounds great. And all you have to do is jump into that beam over there and vaporize yourself at the behest of the Reaper King.

Nah.  Don't you know?  Anything that is inconvenient to Synth Theory is declared "bad writing" and hand-waved away.

And they are also immortal, according to EDI's dialogue.

And how does this affect synthetics? Also plants?

Kind of hard to do when synthetics have no DNA.

But I don't deny it will be a thorough change down to a comparable level.

Ooh, not so fast John Kerry.

Oh and you should go peep the IT thread. I made a special response for you. :happy:

That really sounds legit. Especially the part where it sounds like Harbinger said it.

Actually, she doesn't say they are immortal, but I think she indicates or implies that immortality is attainable. I don't remember the exact words. Been a while since I watched the epilogues.

So either the Catalyst is not telling an absolute truth, or you're not.

An observation:

Isn't it ironic that those who make the loudest claims of valuing the diversity that Synthesis purportedly destroys appear to value not at all the diversity of opinions on the endings, declaiming like prayer wheels their choice is the only reasonable one?

@clennon8

"we can transcend mortality itself" or some bs liek that

@Ieldra2

there is no room for your logic in this conversation

or what Lizardviking said :innocent:

@Hellbird

"organics will fully integrate with synthetic technology, synthetics in turn will gain full understanding of organics" again some bs like that . alters organic dna , but just gives synthetics new insight i guess . well it does say a new dna , framework

No they're not.

"(As the line between synthetic and organic disappears?), we may be able to transcend mortality itself."

EDI is speculating about what may happen into the future, not stating what has happened.

I actually kind of hated that line when I first heard it, tbh. But apparently present day scientists think it's doable. I posted an article about that in the Synthesis support thread a long while ago, leading to some interesting discussion.

And how does this affect synthetics?

No direct change. But as a result of organics' ability to interface with tech, synthetics will undoubtedly be able to share more data (info, memories, emotional inflections) with their organic counterparts.

Also plants?

IDK.

It's meant metaphorically. You notice that from the pause it makes: "A new.....DNA". Meaning a change that's fundamental in a way you wouldn't completely understand, thus the metaphor.

Also, the EC has retconned things. There is no talk of Synthesis unifying organics and synthetics any more except that the distinction may become meaningless in future. At the same time, they kept the old phrasing in this part, which results in an unresolveable contradiction if you take it literally. Faced with an unresolvable contradiction, you have to pick one side. Or interpret things metaphorically.

You have the right to have an opinion. I have the right to think whatever I want about you and your opinion.

You want everyone to have the same opinion.

Me: I don't respect synthesis

You: Everyone has to respect synthesis

So, let's see... Not respecting all opinions equally, no matter how inane, is now being equated to reducing bio-diversity? More nincompoopery.

I have another explanation, he's giving the barely-conscious human a dumbed-down explanation of things.
