Also, I tend to play on the my laptop while playing a volus shield monkey. I pay attention on mission waves, Or I hear an alerting sounds, such as shields down from an ally. Believe it or not, people rarely fall down when doing im doing this since I'm restoring shields constantly. Funnier thing is, A few of my friends do this as well.

I've only played with Volus characters a few times, and only half of those treated them like support characters. Those that do, though, are a ton of fun. It completely changes the dynamic of the game as you have to kill more enemies, but as long as you play smart and protect your Volus you won't go down.

Haven't seen a Volus on gold yet, though.

About half the time. I'm usually the only person who uses equipment and people rarely use their consumables. The only time I think we have a guaranteed extraction is against Reapers.

Most of the time I use my volus engineer too. Helps out a ton, but still sometimes isn't enough. I'm more confident playing with friends who will use all items available to win, even if they are less skilled than the people I play with in PUGs.

Very very rarely, and only when the team is really terrible, or the lag is unplayable.

I doubt it's that I'm just that good at carrying, I just generally end up with at least one other competent player.

Are you sure that's what you meant to say?

On topic: Rarely, mainly if I'm thrown into laggy matches and there is only one other teammate. (And decide to bleed out...)

I wipe when people won't use their gels/consumables. When people are actually trying to be teammates, it's ok.

I keep track of the most of the matches i played so far since retaliation and success vs fail rate on gold is
Collectors 12-6 =67%
Cerberus 26-4=87%
Geth 8-3=72%
Reapers 49-9=84%

Currently doing the N7 mastery so i'm promoting then using level 1s on gold and can't carry very well so the match is screwed if the others love to bleed out. A number of the reapers is random map/reapers as they are easier to grind for some of the challenges. The rest are all UUG

Edit: OP, your thread made me look a bit at my 22 failed games and surprisingly, my most failed map is hydra and goddess which are also my 2 fastest maps if the game is smooth. Also interestingly, most of my fails are at wave 6 though i remember that at least 3 of the 7 fails are suicides to end the game while also failing wave 9 and 10 each 6 times

If the team is bad and I die, there is 50% chance of failure.

I saw you fail, but then in next match you were excellent with Volus,so I guess lag was the cause of poor performance.

I have to have very bad lag to fail in a Gold public game.

PS: I leave lobby inmediately if I see "Geth" on enemies...

This.

As for the bolded part: Me too. Not everytime, though. Sometimes I stay if I'm in a good shape.

If I'm playing gold I'll always put equipment on PUG or no. Probably fail to extract about 10% of the time. My experience with PUGs has been pretty good.
When I do wipe it usually goes like this:
No one uses missles or consumables when the S hits the fan on a wave 3 or 6 objective and I have to burn through stuff early. Then when i need it later I don't have it.
Hacks and disables are usually the objectives.
I could probably play a little more conservatively in PUGs and succeed a little more often when my team isnt very good. I also tend to try to revive no matter what and sometimes I would be better served letting people bleed out.

Not often. I wait to put on equipment till I have a rough idea of the team and their willingness to use equipment. I do tend to kick or leave if I don't think a team can hack it, but if it looks like there's at least one player with a decent kit/weapon and using equipment, I'll usually stick around even if the other two look like new players. My chars are pretty much always in that 17-20 range when i bring them into gold. I generally use most of my cobras and some of my medigel and ops packs. Since I generally buy one JEP per gold match and have maxed out my consumables, I'm not too concerned about spending them. I try not to waste them though(because you never know when that gel/rocket used earlier would've been way better used later), so I usually only start rocketting in late waves, and medigel only if the wave looks in danger.

Success rate not fail rate. My bad. Yeah I suck even worse with friends. :D

- I play Unknown/Unkwnown/Gold for the most. (usually create my lobby, load equipment and open it up to get the surprise players of the day)

-Whenever we get wiped its mostly due to fatige for getting trapped and out of equipments as a result of trying to revive a downed player who went rambo and got himself on a bad spot. I would say collectors and geth are the most troublesomes. And it usually happens on waves 6-7-9.

-I load equipment before searching for a game, after buying so many stuff i got loads of level 1,2 and 3 equipment to spare, no point on saving them as i will never use them.
-I dont kick unless i notice a player whos not contributing to the team, if they have bad load outs i talk them out but i accept anything. But if i come across a new player who seem to be on the wrong place i talk to him about how he/she should try an easier dificulty before jumping on gold.

-For gold i recommend any character (except vanguards) on level 13- or above. With a good team you can use a level 1 character and consumables to make up for it, but with pugs you dont really want anything lower than that.

-I rarely wipe, but when i do its usually because i get myself insta killed early on, or due to trying to save pugs from really bad bad places. And i can solo gold consistently, but its usually hard to do it off host.

-With friends im lucky if i use 2 ops packs, 2 medigels and a couple rockets. With pugs i usually use EVERTHING except the thermal clip packs.

-When i PuG, i start by thinking im there to carry the team, usually im right, but from time to time you get good players. Its a bittersweet experience but i like the challenge.

I was having a conversation with Invaderone a few days ago, and he said something I thought was really profound about the mindset of your average PUG.

Invader says he spends a couple days a week just playing PUGs... and what he has discovered is that PUG/Gold players don't really expect to win. Just imagine that for a minute... going into battle with a bunch of people who think they're going to lose before wave 1 even starts. How can they be a competent team member with this mindset!?!?

Truth is... they are looking to be carried probably 2/3 of the time.

I exclusively play Volus Engineer now in Gold, so if we wipe, its pretty much all their fault. what with his ability to provide teams with nigh unlimited shielding and supreme debuffs with RM invasive scan and Proxy mine.

On the plus side, never failed an objective as Volus so far

I always PUG due to Origin not letting me accept invitations for some reason.

I reckon maybe 10% of the time it's a wipe.

But then, I usually leave the lobby if I see players that are almost certainly not ready for Gold (N7 <120, low level weapons with missing mods, no Gear etc).

I'm pretty sure I get more disconnects than wipes...

I'd say one in every five matches is a dud, though sometimes I just leave because the host connection is just so bad.

20% of the games are complete waste of my time - I wish I was better so I could carry people even worse than myself. >_>

I think you're underestimating.

We ran ten games last night on UUG. 9 out of the 10 the 3rd and 4th person failed to go above 30k on the scoreboard. The one guy that broke 30K decided to missile every "last enemy" left in the wave and used all eight missiles on single banshees, brutes, and ravangers.

I never put on consumables while searching for a match and I'm selective in the lobby, so I don't wipe often in Gold PUGs, unless I get dropped into a match in progress with a poor team. I can't solo later waves with any kind of regularity, it depends on my kit, the enemy and the map. I mainly only play level 20 characters, but some I can use 18 or 19. I'd say my success rate in Gold PUGs is 80%, and I always commit to using all my consumables during a match, though I don't always have to. I probably topscore 20% of the time, but mostly I'm in second or third.

I think the key to success in PUGs if you play at your most challenging difficulty, is being very selective in the lobby. I think it's pretty obvious whether we're going to do well if I see the whole team and what everyone is bringing. Of course there's a chance you'll get an N7 2500 with Harrier X and level 20 Destroyer that is totally worthless, but it's a pretty small chance. I really wish you went to the lobby every time you searched, even if it was for a game in progress so you could see what your team looked like and spec or leave accordingly.
