Alright I've filtered through enough posts at this point and am lookin for a straight answer. As a DW war, is it best to go daggers and dex or axes with str? Is there a big enough damage difference to use one over the other or is it more of a flavor kind of decision?
Daggers or Full-sized weapons for DW war

IMO, you are better off using two big weapons either swords or axes. Daggers are for rogues going for backstab damage. As a warrior you should be constantly spamming sweep and wirlwind. Forget the whole single target DPS, AOE DPS is much better!

Are you warrior or rogue

Already said warrior in the title of the post m8. I tend to agree with beancounter, but it IS a personal flavour thing. If you want max dps - dual wield daggers (dexterity build); if you the best AoE damage - dual wield full size weapons (strength build). Both rock, but if I wanted to dual wield daggers, I'd go for the rogue anyway.

I used dual longswords on my warrior and I loved this playstyle. You can smash groups of low-level enemies with AOE attacks and are tremendously effective against bosses.
I have read that dw daggers do more damage, but I was so powerful with dw longswords (compared to my mage and dw dagger rogue characters) that I sure didn't feel I was missing any dps.

just a quick question, to use two full size longswords/axes I am assuming you need the final talent in the first dual weapon line?

Yes, and 36 Dex I believe.

Don't go full dex on console btw, just enough to get talents, as you get 0 damage from dex with daggers, it's broken.

Just go rogue. There is nothing in Dragon age more lethal than a rogue with a full head of steam.
Daggers dont really come into their own until you get Lethality and full cunning anyway

DW warrior has advantages over rogues. No, they are not the same damage, but you have a lot more survivability which means you can hit a lot more with your AoEs. I often tank with my DW warrior -- the biggest downside is there isn't a DW equivalent to indomitable so stuns and knockdowns can be a bit of a problem. But there's something just very fun about charging into a room full of mobs, taunting them, and then laying the smackdown all of them with poisoned blades. A rogue can't take full advantage of whirlwind that way because, well, they die!
Edit: Rogues of course are the best single target damage in the game and have a lot of advantages over warriors. All I'm saying is you shouldn't scrap DW warrior because it's like a gimp rogue. Because they're just played differently, and both are fun.

My first playthrough was a DW warrior with two longswords and it was a lot of fun. Things tend to die rather quickly and you can charge into a fight without much of a worry. You will have to heal a lot, but you'll feel like Duncan every time you slay an ogre.

Imagine if you have starfang and the keening blade.

Daggers = Highest Single Target DPS
Full Sized = Highest AoE DPS
Full Sized = Highest AoE DPS
