As I have yet to play H4, Dishonored and Black Ops II has not come out, my real opinion has yet to be formed.
As of right now, it's Assassin's Creed III, and it is not even close. Ending be damned. Followed by NBA 2K13 and Borderlands 2.

I haven't finished it yet, but XCOM:EU is really fun. So that's my GOTY. Play it!
Other highlights for me this year were Torchlight II and Dragon's Dogma. Never finished those either.
The game I've played the most this year though, is actually SWTOR. I know that game is not too popular around here, but yeah, I like it.

NBA 2K13 for right now. I have a feeling Hitman: Absolution will take its place though.

Probably XCOM. Borderlands 2 would have won, but they MMO-ified the endgame so much I can't stand it. Great game from 1-49 though.

Skyrim.
I don't care that it was released in 2011, Dawnguard DLC was released in 2012 so I think that gives me the right to choose Skyrim as my favorite game of 2012.
The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition too.
Even though once again the original The Witcher 2 was released in the 2011, the enhanced edition was released in 2012 so that gives me the right to choose The Witcher 2 as one of my favorite games of 2012.
I also quite enjoyed One Piece: Pirate Warriors and Dishonored.

Thing is, 2012 sucks when it comes to games. There aren't any noteworthy games released this year. 2012 sucks in comparison to 2011. Honestly, I don't care about Assassin's Creed 3 or Mass Effect 3 or any of that stuff.

1. Dark Souls became one of my favorite game.
2. I love The Walking Dead and I can't wait for the epilogue.
3. I have played ME3 a lot. Doesn't have the impact ME2 had on me, but I still play MP with friends for fun.

At this time Halo 4.
The only other games I'm getting this year is lego LOTR's and Black Ops 2. Doubt either will be better than Halo 4.

XCOM:Enemy Unknown brought the biggest smile to my face this year.
But there were alot of other titles I really enjoyed as well. Dragon's Dogma, Borderlands 2, Torchlight 2, ME3, Risen 2...I could go on. Definately enjoying 2012.
