Ending aside, Assassin's Creed 3 by far. Connor's storyline is spectacular, the gameplay is solid, and the setting is surprisingly well-handled. But I've always loved this franchise.

EDIT: on another note, I did play through the whole Legacy of Kain series for the first time earlier this year. It's fantastic, few games nowadays can rival it in terms of story imo.

Haha, nice. It's definitely my favorite series in terms of writing, rivaled only by Planescape: Torment. Kain and Raziel are such great characters. I still wouldn't mind seeing an LoK 6, or even a GOTY edition with all the games together. But I doubt that would ever happen, given how long it's been.

If you are a player who explores, get lore tidbits from letters and books, loots a lot and what not, easy 20-25 hours.

Journey and The Walking Dead are two of the games I really liked this year. Agree that the latter feels more like a movie. The Secret World should get a mention, too. I've only been playing for a short while and there are definitely things it could improve upon. But I'm truly enjoying myself in an MMO for the first time. It doesn't feel like a chore.

I just bought Spec Ops: The Line and I'm really hoping it helps wash away some of the bad taste left by a disappointing year in gaming.

Wasn't expecting it, but Halo 4 has blown me away. It's the most emotional game in the series, very well-written. Multiplayer is a blast (as always), but what really intrigues me is the Spartan Ops, Co-op with an episodic narrative, augmented by solid CG cutscenes. Looking forward to see where that goes.

ME3, now with semi-fixed endings, is still a candidate for GOTY, along with Halo 4. I'm probably getting Spec-Ops: The Line pretty soon so we'll see if that shakes things up.

You're playing Spec Ops to counter a negative experience? Good luck with that.

My run was about 25 hrs, and by no means did I discover everything. It really is a game that can be very short or quite long depending on your involvment with it.

Civilization V: Gods & Kings.

That'll probably change to Walking Dead when I finally get the time to play it.

I did a few pages back, but seeing that your post including mines is 2 of only 3 posts mentioning it makes me feel profound sadness.

There truly is no hope then.

Walker is possible the deepest character here.

Delving deep into his psyche. His desire to be a hero at the begining of the game, his mistake of the white phosphorus only increasing his desire to be a hero and for redemption.

His actions of trying to help blow up in his face, his own self-hatred growing and eventually forming into Conrad and his denial of his actions and how war completely changes him into a hollow shell.

What video game character is as deep as him? I'm not talking skin deep or personality deep but even deeper into a characters mind.

And all this happened just because he wanted to help.

Then there's hope.

@ Naughty Bear - Agreed, plus it's been implied by Walker that he used WP or seen it previously in Kabul where Conrad saved him,  heck Kabul is where he got his PTSD from while the white phosperous incident in Dubai only worsened it. For the short duration of the game Walker, Adams and Lugo were surprisingly good characters. Plus i'll always remember 0:00 -  0:45 in contrast to how Adams supported Walker during the mission even after the WP incident, but before the consecutive tragedies that led up to the is scene.

Favorite game of the year is Dragon Age II. :o (Whoops, wrong year!)

I meant to say Skyrim. ^_^      ..............Er, no, that's wrong too, isn't it? :pinched:

In 2012 I've spent a great deal of time playing ME3 MP, but playing singleplayer still makes me slightly nauseous, so I guess I'll have to go with....Happy Wars?

Oh well, never mind. I'm hoping for better things in 2013. :)
