The original voice actors/actresses that I think could
potentially do a really good job are:

Flemeth: Kate Mulgrew

Leliana: Corrine Kempa (but Milla Jovovich is a good choice
too or Alley Katze, oh right lol)

Loghain: Simon Templeman (maybe)

Morrigan: Claudia Black (must!)

Wynne: Susan Boyd Joyce (maybe)

People outside the voice cast:

Warden: Jason Statham (because the Sacred Ashes trailer)

Alistair: Nathan Fillion or Ryan Reynolds or Chris Pine or David
Boreanaz

Duncan: Liam Neeson or Ben Cross

Ohgren: John Rhys-Davies (for his work as Gimli but I LOVE
Steve Blums voice!)

Sten: Ron Pearlman or Michal Clarke Duncan

Zevran: Antonio Banderas

Queen Anora: Sienna Miller

Cailan: Leonardo DiCaprio

Irving: Jeremy Irons
Just some thoughts :D

Now, I know the canon Warden is male (as is always the way... le sigh)
But I love the storyline the alienage elves carry. And a female protagonist is always awesome.

So, Emma Caulfield (Anya from Buffy) as the female elf hero.

For Alistair, definitely, Jude Law. He has mystic eyes a sexy mouth, not mentioning a masculine chin. He's got to be my Alistair, with the sexiest british accent from Steve Valentine... Grrrrr! He could take me anytime, baby!!

In terms of what the format of the film should be, I would be inclined to go with a high budget CG

animation (with extensive input from Bioware), rather than attempting a live action film, as it will be almost impossible to please everyone anyway, and would have the advantage of allowing the original voice cast to be retained.

In terms of the storyline, there is no doubt that the Male Cousland origin would be used (probably based on the Sacred Ashes style warden), as this origin has many strong and simple narrative hooks (duty, vengeance, loyalty) and features the quintissential alpha-male action hero archetype that Hollywood so loves (most familiar and palatable to audiences and risk averse studio executives).

As for casting of actors for a live action film...

How about Ashley Green (from Twilight) as Morrigan? Pic for reference

Or Olivia Wilde (from House/Tron Legacy) as Leiliana? Pic for reference

Morrigan: Lizzy Caplan. Looks kinda like Sacred Ashes Morrigan imo.
Posted Image

Wynne: Twiggy. Her face doesn't look messed up with botox as so many other elder women of Hollywood, for starters. And you can tell that she was a very beautiful youth, which is also something I imagine Wynne being. 8)
Posted Image

Leliana: Christina Ricci. With some red hair I think she would look like a very nice Leliana 8)
Posted Image

Alistair: Ollie Edwards. He's got the looks and he's charming as a god damn puppy! I don't know if he's "manly man"ish enough, though.
EDIT: Jude Law could also do this I think, which would probably be more fitting as he is actually an actor. 8)
Posted Image

Oghren: Ed Corbin. They just gotta make him shorter, I suppose :b
Posted Image

Sten and Zevran: I can't think of anyone who could pull off these guys atm. :b

These were picked based on looks and demeanor btw, not acting abilities.

EDIT2:

Decided to do some more, because it's kind of funny. :b

Anora: Kate Winslet. She's beautiful and could maybe bring more likable...ness to Anora.
Posted Image

Lady of the Forest: Anne Hathaway. I think she'd do very well as the Lady of the Forest. As she's very graceful and very womanly, I think she'd be able to do the Lady of the Forest as tastefully as Bioware did in the game.
Posted Image

My avatar, Ranvi: Amanda Nørgaard. Because... well, she's absolutely amazing! haha :b

IMO I think the the actors and actresses that everyone has been suggesting are way too old or too mainstream to play the characters. The actors should really be a bunch of unknown Europeans who look and sound the part. With enough advertising the title can sell itself. The only characters I can see them cutting from the movie is Shale. Shale is not really needed. Also, one of the forumites who I believe is a woman posted that the Warden should be a woman. I agree. Alistair story is strongly intwined in the story, I think a male Warden lead would overshadow Alistair and his involvement. I think that if the Warden is a male, it is just going to be another testosterone filled sword movie. Just my opinion, I really think the the HNF should be the main role. Also, the only guys that anyone sugggested for Alistair that seem reasonable is Charlie Hunnam and Jensen Ackels. He is supposed to be a HUNK. Awkward and innocent, but, still really good looking.

Oh also I think that it should be a mini series so that all of the content is captured instead of a mainstream movie. A movie is just gonna give a popcorn version of the game.

Hi, I'm new, blah blah blah, Alistair's babalicious, and now we're introduced.

Speaking of Alistair, I had just a couple suggestions for him.  Not really sure how serious they are, but I think these two sexy gents at least could look the part, with a dye job.

Exhibit A)
Posted Image

David Boreanaz.  A little old, perhaps, but he's got the hunky-yet-boyish looks and personality, and wouldn't some tactful self-deprecating humor look good on him?

Exhibit B)
Posted Image

And, Finn from Glee.  He may be a touch young, but with some nice blonde chin scruff and a good british accent, I think he could pull it off.  He's also got the boyishness, yet that football body, strong jawline, and adorable awkwardness that makes us want to rip Alistair's armor off.

Anyhoo, those are my half-serious picks.  I actually really hope they don't turn Dragon Age into a movie.  Unless, you know, they do a good job.

Regarding Sten, we definitely need the human equivalent of a battle tank. I'm thinking either Michael Clarke Duncan (as previously recommended), Mark Felix (A British strongman albeit with no acting experience), and Kevin Grevioux (Raze from Underworld, and Rise of the Lycans).

My personal vote is with Grevioux; the man has the right kind of physique and physical presence for the role, and his voice is amazing (Note; his voice in Underworld is his real voice, incase anybody didn't know).

Not to be a buzz kill but the movie in all honestly would suck major major long time. Games that are turned into movies, for the most part just don't work. The movie would take just the large moments which would never satisfy us in any regard and much of the back story with this game would just be lost.

Anyway, I'd love one if it worked! hah

Well Prince of Persia and Resident Evil had a good response.

Unless a game has vastly unrealistic gameplay its doable. Movies like Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings are proof that a movie of Dragon Age would probably work.

But they were books before the movies. And I disliked resident evil because they changed the story from the game way to much. I liked it otherwise but if hey changed so much for that game...plus those weren't RPGs like this they were much more action genre which is easier to translate. Don't be mad lol just thinking out loud

A book is the same as a game. And Dragon Age isn't a very unrealistic fantasy. There are plenty of TV shows, movies, and whatnot set in medieval times that are good. Dragon Age would be no different.

Cailan - Leonardo DiCaprio (blonde babyface!)
Morrigan - Claudia Black...
Flemeth - Kate Mulgrew
Cauthrien - Keira Knightely
Oghren - Steve Blum (can't have Oghren jokes without Oghren voice)
Irving - Jeremy Irons, for the voice
Zevran - blonde Antonio Banderas, obviously
Teagan - CHUCK NORRIS

OMFG CHUCK NORRIS!

But seriously, my reply to this is to add a huzzah to your choices!
Hugo Weaving would be an awesome Loghain Mac Tir!

I despise Leo DiCaprio with a passion but since he gets PWNed early on I could go with him getting kersplooshed by an ogre  ^,^ :P   Morbid as that is... <,<

Kiera Knightley, cliche as she has become... yesssss Cauthrien.

Why would you have to stick to using an origin story why not create a complete new origin for a film go with the rest of the game and skip right to going after branka for the dwarf bit cos rest is boring. and female warden would make more sense as said before male warden would mean no point to alistar. female warden and alistar cud go for the love story bit female warden kills archdemon alistar loses love of his life for sad ending. but would have to be an epic 3 parter like LOTR to be even worth doing

I know I'm a little behind on posting an opinion but I just started playing through DAO and I really like it so far.

My picks for Alistair so far are :

file:///C:/Users/Brittany/AppData/Local/Temp/moz-screenshot.pngMarc Blucas - file:///C:/Users/Brittany/AppData/Local/Temp/moz-screenshot-4.pngwww.google.com/imgres  With a dye job and some scruff I think he could pull it off.

OR

Paul Walker - www.askmen.com/women/galleries/men/paul-walker/picture-5.html Because he has the baby face but the killer body. He can be funny and sarcastic.

Just my 2 cents!

I'd go with a pure CGI film myself, but if we had to go live action I'd say IMO the Sacred Ashes trailer Warden (Malcolm Cousland) looks more like James Purefoy than Jason Statham.

If I was directing it. It would be CGI and would use all the games voice actors. I would make the Warden a male human noble like in sacred ashes trailer and he will have the voice actor for the experienced voice(sacred ashes voice). For Hawke, I would make him a Mage because I feel it fits in with the game's story more and he was a Mage in the DA2 trailer. My established canon would have Alistair and Anora rule as king and queen. The warden has done the ritual and followed Morrigan. Hawke sides with Mages, obviously.

I would vote for a completely CG thing like the Sacred Ashes Trailer, but I would love a full length live action movie as well.
However, the protagonist characters in the game are all pretty young (with the exception of a few) so I feel like some of the actors previously chosen are just too old. <snip>

I'm gonna search for others and add it. I wish that Victoria Johnson (Who Morrigan's face was based off of) was an actress. Or that Claudia Black was a bit younger. Shes' so beautiful. I wouldn't mind if she played her though.

Just as a side note, Claudia BLack isn't *that* old, mid to late thirties :P  I think DIanne West would make a phenomenal Wynne...
(at all so far :> just a convenient place to write this)

However...  If a movie is made of this, it's unlikely that they are going to be able to stick so close to appearance. They will send out a call for generic stats appearance wise, hair can be dyed, etc... The actor who brings what the studio is really looking for to the character will get it whether or not they actually fit what the original appearance was.  (i know i know... dream cast and all if one of us got to direct....  )
