My thoughts so far

Also I'm not really sure on the background stories in this one. From what I understand we won't actually play as them but they'll be mentioned or something in the story? Again I'm sure this has been said before but it sounds a like Mass Effect and while I liked the series this isn't Mass Effect but on the other hand I guess choosing a background even if we don't play as it is better than nothing.
Also I'm hoping to get a female elf love interest who isn't completely oblivious. I mean I'm sure some people loved Merrill but she seemed far too much of an air head for my liking.
I'm also hoping we get more than 3 dialogue options this time. I'm sure some people like the voiced thing even if it limits responses to a few different emotions serious/funny/aggressive but I found it far too limiting. If they insist on doing a voiced played perhaps they could go something more on the lines of what they did with the Witcher game.
I think it'd also be cool to have some of the specializations to have other uses. Like blood magic could be used like force persuade in Knights of the Old Republic. I'd also like to see the return of being able to use whatever weapon and armour I choose despite classes. And some more options for specializations.
I'm also hoping we a wide variety of places to visit rather than spending most of the game in the same city.

We don't know much other than David said it will have a "significant" impact on the story. He didn't specify but did say people shouldn't directly compare it to ME. He implied it will have more impact than the ME games did with their backgrounds but we'll have to see. Not a lot is known yet.

Been discussed before by the devs and this isn't true. It had just as many choices as DAO. The dialogue wheel just ends up hiding some if you choose not to discover them in conversations. What exactly do you mean by the Witcher? Only thing I can remember is sometimes you had alternate ways through a conversation like using your spell power/intimidate/etc. I wouldn't mind seeing them allow attributes to give alternate ways through conversations again. Use high strength as an alternate way or high magic through a conversation. Blast the guards down if I have high magic...beat the crap out of the encounter with high strength. That kind of thing.

Been implied specilizations will play a bigger part into your story and possibly gameplay. I'd also like to see something like this. More alternate ways through a conversations based on how my character is built. I too wish restrictions were removed. I want to dual wield as a Warrior again or build an Arcane Warrior...
I'm also hoping we a wide variety of places to visit rather than spending most of the game in the same city.
Devs said this is a big priority for them so you have nothing to worry about. The game will likely take place over several countries in Thedas(although not confirmed yet). Variety will definitely be back in the universe. That seems to be an early promise they made.

I honestly think Merril is a bit smarter then most people think.
I am a bit annoyed with the race situation. I believe the major problem with different PC races are the animations. They aren't impossible to do, however they would have to waste time and resources on it that could be used on the overall story amongst other things. I'm not vert knowledgable when it comes to making video games, but I'm almost sure that's the gist of it. I'd still rather have race, though I can see why Bioware made the choice of not adding them.
I support the dialogue wheel for a few reasons. First, you didn't know the tone of what your warden was going to say so sometimes it ended up coming out completely different then how you intended it to. Second, you're basically getting the same amount of dialogue you were in DAO. In DAO some of the dialogue was questions while the rest were a few different ways to push the conversation forward based on your morality.
I do think it would be nice to get maybe one or two more personalitys though.

My guess is, that the basic storyline in the game will decide the possible races of the main character. There are possibilities enough (DA IV to/through XIX) to include other starting races in various settings on Thedas (like Tevinter mages convincing Dalish clans that they wish to help them rebuilding Arlathan, while those mages only wish to release and worship the next archdemon; a plea for help to liberate a forgotten Dwarven stronghold; discovery of an ancient artefact on Par Vollen which throws the Qunari into turmoil, you name it).

When did the forum turn into a blog? <_<
That's what a forum is, just instead of one person and their opinion, it's many people and their opinions. Sadly, many people seem to take whatever another person says as fact rather than opinion.
