I'd really like to see an Amell family selectable background

I have a Grey Warden male mage in DA:O linked to a male mage Hawke in DA II, and as the title of this thread says, I'd like to see an Amell family background as one of the selectable backgrounds in DA III.

It's quite possible that Hawke's grandfather, Lord Aristide Amell, had brothers and sisters. If some of those brothers and sisters had children, legitimate or otherwise, one of those children could easily be the father or mother of the main character in DA III.

Personally I'd prefer the parent be a bastard child so as to be able to avoid the issue of why nobody more capable wrestled away control of the Amell family's considerable fortunes from someone as incompetent as Gamlen.

I'm already an Amell in DAO, why bother again? Plus that'll make a God damn noble again and I hate nobles in thedas.

If it's just one of several selectable backgrounds, nobody would force you to play it, so you wouldn't have to bother again. That's the beauty of choice, friend.

It's an interesting theory, I always liked the connection in DA2, although it might get to the point only one family is capable of saving the world. On the other hand if there are Hawke and Warden cameos it could be a family reunion.

It'd be a good option, not something that's forced, but still available for those who'd like to play it.

As an option i would like it, it perhaps won't be the primary background for me but until we actually know the backgrounds i would say that having the Amell there would be great

Winner! Winner! Chicken Dinner!

I really dig the idea of a subtle plot possibility through all the games. The Amells. It's not canon, but it could be someone's canon. That's fun. That's a lot of fun righ there. Love it.

I'd love that. My "canon" Warden is a mage too, and I love the fact that the Dragon Age franchise may be the great tale of the Amell family, kind like the Star Wars movie are actually centered about the Skywalker family.

That family just can't catch a break, can they?  Posted Image

I rather dislike the idea of every protagonist being related. Makes the world seem small. And I don't really see what would be interesting about it.

Obviously optional wouldn't be the end of the world, but there's probably a limited number of backgrounds available so I might as well say my preference.

The Amell becoming one of the most important families in Thedas? I like it.

Seriously? Why does every important person in Thedas have to be related? I for one like having each and every character unique with their own motivations and personality, (though they are all sarcastic. The best peoples always are). It would be so boring to have to play the same basic character for every game, even if I they do do things I personally wouldn't do in that situation.

I suppose I wouldn't mind it being an option, mind you. But know it won't be possible in future games if they keep their promise for race selection in DA4. Which I hope they do. I guess I'm just hoping for more exciting backgrounds like Tal-Vashoth or Magister Apprentice.

I wouldn't mind it, but don't make it the ONLY noble background.

I don't think it would be a noble background necessarily. Every noble has younger sons that don't inherit titles. Perhaps this could be a more humble background from such a line.

I'd prefer a Tabris, with a mixed race character (after all, a child born by a human and an Elf is always human. So it would always be a boring Human, but with a Elf background). So I would be linked to my CE Warden. and we know already mixed races happen. for love or for violence. CE have a lot more chance than a Dalish of having a mixed child.
Even if Feinryel happen. So, it would not be so strange.

It would be cute to have a Amell, but I'm already tired of that family after DA2. I'd like to not have to think about Hawke. I want to forget that character. But for those who liked to have a continuity is a good idea.

This idea; I like it - Another!

My favorite playthrough is a Female Amell, Female Warrior Hawke and circle Mage Bethany!
Bring me more Amell, I love that subtle connection you can have.

I never want to see another Amell again. Or Hawke. Or Cousland...

I liked my elf and dwarf family backgrounds way more than Hawke's or Cousland's(Though my HN warden married to King Alistair will probably be my cannon background for DA3, if I buy it.)

And all those family stories? I like them the way they are, and I don't want them to be remade in a new game. Couslands belong to Fereldon, the elves and dwarves belong with the elves and the dwarves. Etc.

But, you know, as long as there is a choice for a new family background, I guess it'd be okay to bring those families back... I guess... ... ... ... To each their own, and all... ...

They don't have to be, but I, personally, would consider this on the level of a HILARIOUS easter egg if they put in some kind of gag or comment if you manage your save games in such a fashion that the Warden, Hawke, and the DA3 protag are all related.  It'd be no worse than most of the one-line comments we get about our save imports.

They could also put in little comments about things like, if your Warden, Hawke, and DA3 PC were ALL mages, or ALL rogues, or ALL warriors.  You know what they say, once is chance, twice is coincidence, but three times is conspiracy.

Hmph thinking about this makes me wish that DA2 and DA3 had choice of races so you could trot out your All Dwarf or All Elf team and make some horrible snarky comments about who clearly Dwarves or Elves are the Master Race because they're the only people around here who get anything DONE.

Another Amell? -_-'

It was alright in DA2 but if it's going to go to where an Amell is part of every DA game I'd rather just say no and stop in here. :/

This.

I like the Amell's 'curse' of mages in the family line.
