I'd really like to see an Amell family selectable background

I'd say that I'd prefer a connection to a different origin - Amells have had their turn! - but the ones I'd be interested in seeing are right out, because for some reason, elves apparently have no stake in this fight and thus are unsuitable to be the PC.

So sure. Amell. Better than Cousland.

I find this interesting as well.  As Orsino, for example, rose to the rank of First Enchanter in the Kirkwall Circle and elves populate the Circles in general alongside humans I had thought they (elven mages, at least) would have as much to gain or lose in the mage-templar conflict of DA3 as humans do.

Likewise, as others have pointed out, the city elves largely believe in the Maker as well.  Racial prejudices aside, though elves do not normally "officially" join the (Andrastian) Chantry it seemed possible to me that an elf could have a place as the protagonist in Inquisition.  It will be interesting to see how unfolding events affect the elves as they exist alongside their human neighbors.

Eh, I'm not for it.

What I AM for is one of the other Origins' families having a background choice in DA3- the Couslands or hell even one of the elven families(so that the Inquisitor is like Alistair-half elf half human).

Has that actually been confirmed?

One of the backgrounds should give you a last name of Amell, but in the codex it says (no relation.)

Couldn't care less because i don't usually play human, but for people who do this might be a nice touch. But again it would too big a coincidence that all three protaganists are related to each other, i know that i can choose but you get what i mean hopefully :P

Oh and the part about alistair being half-elf is probably because Fiona had a child with Maric :P

Bingo.

And she told him to make sure everyone(including their son) believed he was 100% human, that his mother was dead, and she made Duncan promise to watch over him.

Yep. Alistair's a half-elf, half-human being. Which means elven backgrounds are in a way STILL achievable.

Even though it hasn't been confirmed it makes sense, but who knows? :P

Regardless, since elven/human hybrids always look human anyway, my original point stands.

Making a third Amell hero is just too much, these people aren't God's chosen family. Sure the option would be good but I think the protagonist should be from another family this time.

... And they would be the Maker's chosen family if we were FORCED to play an Amell in every single game, which we're not. Yes, Hawke is an Amell on their mother's side and the human Mage Origin in DA:O is an Amell, but that's it. What would be the harm in letting us CHOOSE to play an Amell in the third game if we want to?

There's a segment of the fandom who argue that there's a third child, though I'm not one of them.  It seems a bit much to me to assume, particularly as introducing a bastard child at the end of the book there sets up an expectation that he'll be important later, and, as of yet, we've only seen Alistair.  Who was rather important to the game, even if you didn't make him king!  Therefore, it makes sense that the bastard child we've seen is the bastard child we were presented with in the book.

Still, it is important to note that the possibility remains that Gaider has plans for this bastard child somewhere in the future, and he's not Alistair . . . but, really, it seems unlikely.

With apologies, I have read none of the spin-off books or comics. I decided to do a web search for "alistair dragon age half-elf" and sure enough the Dragon Age Wiki filled me in on this little morsel of information.

I'd be cool with a half-elf background so long as it came with some meaningful stat bonuses and penalties; in the same way that if we could play a half-dwarf (is that possible?) I would except some inherent magical resistance to be available to that playable character.

If we are not given the choice to play as non-humans in future DA games (assuming that my fears about this issue become true) I think BioWare should at least consider giving us backgrounds that let us play as half-breeds.

Question: Would people be willing to play an Amell if it meant you had to be Gamlen's bastard offspring?

But know it won't be possible in future games if they keep their promise for race selection in DA4

Just to be clear, no such promise has been made.

So we might as well just roll Amell characters from now on:P

Honest question, is there any *reasonable* chance that we might get future DA games where we aren't forced once again to play a human protagonist? And by reasonable I mean something beyond the ‘we took two minutes during the first morning coffee and donuts break in pre-development and decided it was one of the easiest things to cut’ chance.

That would make you Charade's half brother/sister.  She was pretty cool.

As to the OP's suggestion, I don't even have an Amell import.  I played Amells, it's just none survived my PC meltdown, and I haven't played another since.  I much prefer an elven mage to the human.  Or the Cousland background.

If there are some who have that scenario available to them, it would be pretty cool, but I don't see the devs devoting that much to such a specific background option.

Stranger things have happened though.

Yes the twitter post did say that race choice would return in the future but not DA4 specificly (But I really hope it returns for DA4).
