Well it was done with Revan and the Exile, so I expect it to come eventually with this game. The characters can't stay open-ended forever...

The people who worked on TOR aren't the same people working on DA3.

That doesn't really matter.  As the games progress (and if they're ever going to branch out into more books, comics, maybe even movies), it's a move they'll have to make eventually.  The story will get too big to leave so vage and undefined.

I too believe that canonization is inevitable but not because the story requires it. There's no reason at all going forward for the Warden and what the Warden did to be mentioned or heavily featured. If the story were truly big then they wouldn't need to keep coming back to the Warden-well. They don't keep talking about Earendil in LotR.

Why bother with Hawke and The Warden cameos?

Well the end of DA2 hints at the previous storylines building to a head in the future.  We could get a more detailed and thorough story if the previous lore is already established.  Leaving it open ended means Bioware has to account for every possible outcome from both games, which is pretty daunting and might lead to watered-down content later on.

This worked in the ME series because those games are smaller in scope than DA.  The entire series revolves around one person and his companions.  DA, like Star Wars, encompasses multiple heroes and storylines that all entertwine in some way or another.

I agree that a canon ending is good and the save import should be scrapped, but actually having cameos from Hawke and the Warden won't serve much point. Just have somebody mention that they died or lived happily ever after. Their stories are done. There's no need to rope them back in for unsatisfactory cameos.

DA should be more like LotR and TES than Star Wars. New stories with new heroes, not intertwining old ones.

Well As for Revan/Jedi Exile canon, Them not being canonize will not have an effect on the quality of the TOR overall.

I'm getting ready to play TOR when it goes F2P because I'm interested in the story. Worried seeing "Revan" will hurt my enjoyment of it.

And here I was, hoping this was a thread about raising W and H to sainthood.  Nuts.

I feel that a canon of some sort (or a limitation of carried over choices being a MUCH smaller amount) will eventually be inevitable, but I don't think the Warden or Hawke (or Quincy for DA3, eventually) needs to ever show up again.

Why Bioware keeps giving hints to them doing other things that make people want to see them again is beyond me, of course (like Morriganand the Eluvian, or Leliana saying 'gone like the Warden'). This is just a dumb move, in my humblest of opinion.

That said, if they bring them back, I'd rather they not be recognizable. Like the Warden succumbed to the taint and is now almost more creature than our character. For Hawke, I'd just like to see him/her gone.

TL;DR: Setting canon - good, cameo by former PC - bad.

Well TOR is a solid enough game if they retcon Revan and Jedi Exile out of it, it will not hurt the entire game.

Don't compare KotOR to DA, it isn't actually possible to play the 'canon' version of KotOR 2. :/

Besides, the Warden's story, at least, is done.

I believe it, Star Wars is awesome and the Old Republic era is particularly awesome. Which is why they shouldn't have done it in the first place.

Well you are right. As much as I am the biggest Revan/Jedi Exile fanboy, I rather not have them return and let the players write fan fiction about them.

There must always be a female warden or I will not want to play I don't care if they stick to one race so long as we get to chose if it is a default man or woman I do not want a cannon male

they could do it like with kotor. 1 is canon male 2 is canon female.
and lady hawke was way better anyway. since all trailers were male warden i guess a female canon warden, if there will be a canon warden seems unlikely.

canonize must be there to some degree, or it will be a episode like gameplay with short stories spread over.

i hope that at least important choices for the player will be left untouched.

Episodic is literally what you get when you go the Star Wars route. They were called Episode 1-6.

Is gender really that big of a deal? My first Exile was male and was subsequently gender swapped... didn't really bother me.

They are already canonized, do you even know what that word means?

Gender is a big of a deal to people who obsess over it.

I don't give a fig what gender is any of the "canon" characters.

What sex you are changes what options you have. Stop being absurd.

to set canon means declaring a certain set of events, traits and actions happened, with no variations.

The Warden could come from many Origins, two genders, decide many things (like the Dwarven king, curing/killing werewolves, saving Connor, etc.). Hawke could be two genders, be a Mage or non-Mage and could, amongst other things, side with the Mages or the Templars.

That many options means there is no canon.

LOL, there's always this guy.  On every internet forum.

This board really needs an eye-rolling emote.

I support the cannonization of pants. Magical pants blessed by the Divine herself and given to the Warden. Everyone will want to get into them. The Warden will look at others and say, "No, you cannot touch them, find your own!" But then, the Warden never speaks...
