Tictac, not sure if your word means something different, but "female" is simply the designation for a person of the fairer sex, same with the word "male."
"femelle" in french is for animals only, for a human woman it's offensive.
Why less sense ? We just have two different words, "femelle" for female animals, and "femme" for women. ("fille" for girl).
It's called "word richness" isn't it

Truthfully, though, I know the feeling. I mean, I'm in a steady relationship, love my woman, all that, but just because I'm a guy, things always seem slightly better when there are women around. I'd wager that just about anyone else with a Y chromosome feels similar, even if they won't admit it.

Sounds like a fantastic way to trick foreigners into accidentally offending people, yeah?tictactucrac wrote...

There are plenty of females who play games these days, i couldn't care less who's on my team as long as they hold there own and we win (whether it's ME, CoD or w/e).

French has worse ways to trick foreigners than that. Protip: 'Je suis excite' does not in any way mean 'I'm excited'. Nosir, it does not.
It does, in some ways.
Edit : Generally if you hear a teenager saying that and looking at a girl, that means he just wants to f*ck her. But it doesn't necessarily mean that.

Does anyone else find the use of 'female' instead of 'woman' really creepy? It reads like a biology textbook.
Female is the neutral word for it. A girl is young, a woman is older. If age is unknown, female is seen as the correct term.
As to the topic, I often do find female players randomly. Actually ended up in a group of 3 of them for Spartan Ops yesterday on Halo 4.

Interrestingly, this thread has gotten more attention than some of the more well thought-out stuff I've posted in here. So do females(or girls) simply not play on PC then?

Just treat it as an internal joke, and imagine that everyone using the term 'female' essentially thinks of them as some foreign, alien species. It's good for the lulz to read this thread with that silly thought in mind. Not saying that I believe that any of the guys posting here are THAT alienated by (and/or alienating to) women..polymphus wrote...

It's probably just meant to be neutral. Obviously not all females playing a video game are women, because some are just girls. Particularly since parents nowadays don't seem to give a darn about the ESRB's ratings.polymphus wrote...

Well there you go, I did not know that.
In English, it's 50-50 whether you'd get your butt kicked for saying "girl", but pretty safe to say "female". I doubt any English speaking women would take offence to it in the same way French do.

AFAICT, there's quite a few female
players. But I think it's this kind of thread that is the reason why
they don't use voice chat.
This thread's pretty tame so far (and may it continue to be so), thank goodness. But you're spot on about the voice chat thing. :/

But I know several female gamers, they are actually some of the better players I've known.

That being said, the likelihood of meeting a girl in an online game, both of you falling in love, and ever actually meeting IRL is so small you'd be better off hoping to jump inside a harry potter book where you could get love potions

Seriously ? Good to know
Edit : so "girl" doesn't just mean "young woman" ?

Sounds like a Master Race problem to me.
Lots of females on PSN, so must only be news-worthy for PC players?
Maybe playing from the sofa is more appealing? and they seem to prefer co-op or team focused games: I remember in SOCOM 1/2 days when whole clans were female, and many jumped to the PS3.
I'd like to point out that he carries the PC/MAC distinction.
