People make a bigger deal out of it than they should. Girls/women are people too.

Because it's condescending, the same as calling a man 'boy'. You don't call a woman a girl.karmmh wrote...
In English, it's 50-50 whether you'd get your butt kicked for saying "girl", but pretty safe to say "female". I doubt any English speaking women would take offence to it in the same way French do.
I don't know any girl who would be offended to be called a woman, though.

Found 1 in a gold lobby. She made a comment about someones loadout. Right after, she said:"Yes, I'm a girl" - i guess before someone asked or wut?
Do you seriously get asked that?
Yes, we do.
At least, both me and my sister have been asked several times. I think most times we've played with randoms and someone else has a mic. Apparently it's difficult to tell the difference between a female voice and the voice of a young boy, because the question is usually phrased something like: "Are you a girl or a kid?"

Oh okay. Same thing in French with Fille and Femme.

loljk. They seem to hang around in groups on ME3. I often find myself in a lobby where I'm the only guy. >_>

I think I have more women on my friends list than men, of the people who use mics that is. Don't know, or care to know, the gender of non-mic using players. Finding female players on ME3 on the PS3 isn't hard at all.
Also, this player, and occasional BSN poster, is female. Decent player, not awesome.
Does it matter? Would you like to geek out on other subjects? I am fairly good at geeking over various games, Doctor Who, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, zombies, and horror and sci-fi in general.
Very well, then... Challenge accepted. Your topic is zombies. Your question, for 42 geek points is the following: In a class three zombie outbreak, what would be your two preferred modes of land based transportation, and why?
(Not wanting to pick on you, but you *did* ask, heh)

Edit : so "girl" doesn't just mean "young woman" ?
Yep, what polymphus said. It can come across as condescending, even if you don't mean it that way. Best to use another word.

We play. We just don't talk much on mic. I for one have bad memories of the bad old days of online gaming where admitting you weren't a guy was tantamount to a cyber death sentence.

Dammit, really? Girl is condescending too now? People always told me to stop using the term '****es' as a general term for women. Don't know if the forum censor thing will censor that ****, but the word starts with a 'B.' Can someone just give me a list of non-condescending terms so I can stop pissing the women in my life off?polymphus wrote...

Do you really need telling that 'girl' is condescending? That calling an adult a child might be talking down to them just a tiny bit?

Trust me, I'm severely socially maladjusted. I need to be told a lot of stuff that most people just sort of know. I guess I sort of thought 'girl' could generally apply as a term for young women. Men don't need anything between boys and men because between 12 and 40 we're dumb****s, and there's already a word for that.polymphus wrote...

First choice is motorcycle. They're fast, can get in places cars can't, and are easier to maneuver. They're not as defensible as a car, but you're less likely to get stuck. Also, they use less fuel. Fuel will be an issue.
Second depends on where I am.
If I'm somewhere with a well built rail system I am thinking a big armored steam train would be a decent place to live. You need water, and something to burn. The latter should be easy to find. The big risks with this are broken rails, automated systems that are down, and having to exit the vehicle on occasion. This is just me wanting something big and awesome though, haven't done the research on how viable it would really be.
Barring available rails I think a biofueled car could be all right. One of those you can run on old fast-food oil. I could get fuel from more places than broken down cars and broken gas stations. And I could carry more things with me than I could on a motorcycle.
Would you like me to go on, or have I shown my geekdom sufficiently?

Not the same thing. This is basic social etiquette, not a gender issue.
You don't walk up to an elderly man at the bank and refer to him as "dude". You refer to him as "sir" as a way to show respect to a stranger. If you have a close relationship with your grampa, you can call him "dude".
