. Also, a certain ogre kicked my butt--not the boss, but the one by himself. I had to reload until I had a time when he didn't ram me 3x in a row.

lol, yea he doesn't even let the Golem form stand up for me.  I figured out a really good combo to take him out though.  It also does that Massive Strike hit and will knock you over.

Those unlimited charge attacks are REALLY annoying.

Anyway, the first time through the Fade was reasonably fun, but each time after that it just becomes more of a grind. The whole batracking to get all the stat increases is annoying aswell. It would have been better if you could clear each section and get all the increases in a single run and then move to the next.

Not so much fun when a game "bug" makes you crazy! I completed everything, in order, went back to kill off each demon but the other characters never made an appearance. The only way out was for me to enable pc_immortal and kill each of the bosses by myself. As soon as that was over the rest of the crew made an appearance. Hated to cheat, but I couldn't handle them alone.

The golem form is strong enough and has enough health to solo all the forms of the Sloth Demon. The first ogre shape is the toughest, because of chain knockdowns, but there's a way around it. You need to kite him until golem's Stomp and Slam are off cd, then you can interrupt his Ram with your Stomp stun, and Slam him and use Hurl for some more damage. Then run around again a bit until the cds refresh. They're not long cds, it's not hard.

You're not supposed to have your companions show up except for the Sloth demon fight.  The bosses are really not that hard to solo with any class, especially since you have some pretty powerful forms to use/abuse.

Even the lone Ogre fight isn't that bad if you have some forms with you by the time you hit it.  As golem form, if he's about to Ram, then just hit earthquake or whatever that slamming thing the golem has.  It instantly stuns and does some damage too, cancelling the Ram.  Then just hit him with a Slam to knock him back, switch forms, maybe throw a Crushing Prison (sometimes resisted), etc.  By then it should already have lost a significant portion of health, and just decide where to go from there.

Anyone figure out the most efficient way to go through this section with all the bonuses?  So far my order is:
Weisshaupt --> The Raw Fade --> Darkspawn Invasion (Spirit form) --> Weisshaupt (bonuses) --> The Raw Fade (bonuses + demon) --> The Burning Tower (Burning Man form) --> Templar's Nightmare (everything) --> Mages Asunder (everything) --> The Burning Tower (bonuses + demon) --> Darkspawn invasion (bonuses + demon) --> Nightmares (if necessary) --> Sloth Demon

This order gets you all but one of the forms in time for Mages Asunder (which is one of the harder areas) and you don't have to do that area (or Templar's Nightmare) twice.

How exactly are dwarves able to enter the Fade? They're not supposed to have that connection.

Dwarves can't enter the Fade unaided, by any natural means. They can be forcefully transported there. Which is what happens at the Mage Circle. The demon casts a spell on your party and forces you into the Fade.

This is from DG himself, by the way.:wizard:

Thanks! Image IPB

Ehm, has he said anything about why the raw lyrium veins don't kill mages instead of refilling their mana? I've been wondering about that as well.

I like the fade. Changing forms for different advantages and such made it very nice to play. My rogue and mage did well in the fade. My Warrior had trouble but I still had fun with it. That stat increases make me do this quest first in every play through. My two favorite forms are Burning Man and the Golem. I used those the most since they had their uses more often than the others in combat.

What I dislike most about the Fade is that I don't get to keep all my shapes in subsequent visits to the Fade (like when rescuing Connor)... :(

IMHO the Fade is the best part of the game. Of course its really challenging, I die extremely often there, but thats also a reason its fun.

I think the thing about what class is better in the fade is irrelevant. I think it's more important as to the various spirit forms and how you use them, that's more important. I've seen a number of complaints about how difficult the battle with the bunch of mages is when you are in your own body, but I've found it a lot easier to deal with when in Burning Man form. The spirit forms are more use that just being able to get thru the doors.

Burning Man form is very effective, I agree, in the Mages Asunder section, thanks to the cone/AOE spells available. You've really got to burn the mages down quickly or else they'll eat you alive.

Sorry but I will never like the Fade. Don't care about the stat bumps at all. It all just feels like a lazy way of telling the Mage story. In fact, it definitely has nothing to do with the mages. It is all about the Fade. We arrive in the story during the aftermath of one mages actions. We don't even get to be part of that fight. I wish we could opt out of the whole thing.

Every other story gets inside the characters, the class and the race. I wonder if none of the developers could agree on the mage story so this Fade thing was a compromise. Just seems to be a "cop-out" part of the story telling when everyhting else is such a higher caliber.

IMO it would be like going to Orzimmar and finding out Oops all the dwarfs were replaced by a Gnoll revolt and now we have to overthrow the Gnolls. At the end you never know anything about the dwarves. The Mage tower could have been a hundred times better. )Oh and yes someone will probably post that they would like to see a gnoll revolt as part of the game. Image IPB

Personally the only time I enjoyed the fade was my first play-through. I was a mage and totally kicked demon dung into orbit...after that...it has sucked. It's a long part of the circle of magi quest and with all the backtracking it gets really annoying. That and the fact that if you attempt to just do a single play run in the fade by the end my 360 doesn't update quick enough so i have to wait about 30 sec after beating the last couple bosses to actually have the area marked complete.

The Fade ROCKS!

I liked it even more the second time through. It has such a wonderful claustrofobic feel of being locked in, not able to get out. It usually drives me to do it in one sitting. And then the: -Whew!

Love it.

Fade is great for MC getting those extra stat points!

Easy to figure out. Just do all the sites counter-clockwise and search every room you can get to. Acquire all the spirit forms and do another circuit of all the sites. Did it all as a rogue. Stealth made a HUGE difference. Sneak up behind the mage and Flurry him to death before he can react. Where there are mobs, take them in small numbers. Attack with bow to draw a couple to you, kill them - rinse and repeat.

I don`t know o.O That doesn`t make much sense does it?

I was thinking that, too. Maybe it's the sloth demon's magic that can force dwarves and golems into the Fade.

Agree completely - there's no real replayability, especially compared with the other main story quests. For me (6th playthrough) the Fade has become a bit of a chore.

My first time through the Fade was a real pain having to retrace steps to complete each area. Since I don't really like puzzles (too much thinking) I was glad to get past it. I made things easier on myself the second time into the Fade. I got the Golem form first thing, then I used his hurling ability to crash through all the doors leading to the main boss. I did this to quickly find and kill the bosses just to get things over with. Now when I go through the Fade it's more fun because I eliminate all the retracing steps and just get to the point.

Someone wrote they might start a thread called "The Fade Rocks". It will be interesting to read people's thoughts on that one. My wife is playing as an Elf and she said there are parts of the Fade she didn't need to go through like she did when she played as a Mage. I'll have to play as an Elf to confirm whether that's true or not.

Erakleitos,

The Fade sucks for different reasons but being unable to find your way out would be one reason. Just curious though, are you male or female. Hard to tell looking at your mug shot.

Mouse form is awesomeness for sneaking up on big nasties and then poof sword in the back! Other than that it is a bit long and tedius at times.
