A lot of people including me had some difficutly with this because the goons never seem to stop spawning in the lower area. The first time as a mage I tried several times to fight with the defenders at the bottom of the hill but eventually the way I got done was to leave my party at the top of the hill with the defenders and run down with my PC to lead the goons up a couple at a time to get slaughtered. Very slow but it got the job done.

The second game I had two rogues and Alistaire using bows and the wizard her staff. I parked my team just up the hill from the bottom courtyard where the action was and used a ranged attack to support the defenders. Two or three zombies got close enough for Morrigan to CoC them but it was a pretty easy fight. I lost the village head man but most of the militia were still standing. Not sure why but it seemed to be less total spawning this way. Just regular arrows and staff bolts with no fireballs and it was quicker than the fight at the top of the hill. I don't think I took any damage at all.
