Has ME3 started a disturbing trend of writer hate towards their audiences?

***SUPER MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR HALO 4***

Seriously, don't read this part if you want to ever like - or even tolerate - anything Halo-related ever again.

The bloody dicks killed off Cortana. 343 can go suck a fat one.

It then occurred to me that my reaction to the Halo 4 ending almost exactly mirrored that of what I saw on BSN in response to the ME3 endings. I kind of almost feel like the entirety of the Halo franchise is pretty much ruined for me now - All the books, games, and even the webseries. It's ridiculous. I'll admit and be the first to say that I never really get riled up or rage over things that happen in works of fiction - But I'm more than a little pissed off over this.

My question to you as my fellow appreciators of this medium is:

Should we start to expect that future franchises that we'll come to know and love will have enormously ****ty endings?

Are terrible endings something we should condition ourselves to accept as industry standard?
