Picked up ME3 for $10 yesterday, and I must say I am fairly disappointed I didn't pick this game up before, it's almost perfect!  It doesn't beat Red Dead Redemption, but it's up there on my 'favorite games of all time' list.  But I'm new, never played ME1 or 2, and I'm confused because of it.  I know I could have searched on Google, but for some reason I feel asking like this is more resourecful and beneficial to my understanding of the game.

So I started it up, assumed it was linear, and only paid attention to the matters at hand - not bothering with any side stuff (didn't know it was there at first).  I am now where I just saved the Citadel, but I realize I've missed a lot of things.

1.  What's the deal with these side-missions?  How do I make sure I do as many as I can?  I don't want to miss a single one.
2.  What's all this romance stuff I hear about on the internet?  Can you have intercourse with these aliens or something, what's the deal with it and how do I go about the romance thing?
3.  Sometimes I see things on the bottom of my TV that tell me to pull LT or RT, I assume RT is Renegade and LT is Paragon actions?  So assuming I want to be full Paragon, always do LT and never RT?  I (SPOILERS) killed Ashley and didn't want to!!(Done with SPOILERS), but I thought I had to press RT to defend myself, like in that fight with James.
4.  I want to get the most out of the game; side-missions, all possible characters, all items, etc... how can I make sure I do that?  Is it possible to miss side-missions and armor pieces and never be able to get it in the future?  IF so, how do I prevent that?  Should I always speak to every character on Normandy and at the Citadel, and always echeck emails (I do all that anyway, but only recently unfortunately)?
5.  I chose Soldier class, but assuming their were other classes can you specialize in more than just guns... like Liara's biotic abilities or something?
6.  Any other tips/suggestions?
