Mass Effect is not an open world game. It's not a sandbox. And it isn't going to be.

I don't want a friggin' sandbox, but I do want more freedom. They can open up. Let us in. Like I said before, what I liked about ME was that it was good balance between sandbox and shooter.

You're out of luck, then. The developers aren't going to spend their time and resources on making sub-par "exploration" levels that would have to be both tiny and uninteresting due to being spread out over a bunch of planets.

i started playing ME1 again the other day...and what i would like in the new ME game..

the same exploration and immersion in ME1 (it didnt feel rushed...i could take my time to enjoy the scenery) but with ME3 combat.

ME1 style skill tree was cool too. loot was not.

I just want the game and worlds to feel big again.

I liked missions like Virmire, where you drove through in the Mako, disabled the aerial defenses allowed the Normandy to land. Went to base camp, then went on to the main compound on foot disabling more defenses as you went. Then finally went into the main compound which was multiple levels and multiple buildings.

You could damn near get lost on the Citadel in ME1.

Last two games, too much getting dropped off sometimes literally at the back door of the enemy base as if the Kodiak has optical stealth or something, and then running around inside one building, and getting picked back up.

I won't even go into how the Citadel has shrunken since the first game.

during ME2 and now 3......if they had released mission packs that contained planets to explore akin to ME1 but with updated graphics.....I WOULD PAY PAY PAY PAY PAY!!!

once a month....2 or 3 planets per pack....with detailed...even if the detail is ME1 style...but the interior of baddy bases are new and detailed...expand or reinforce the ME lore....i say something like $3-5 (or like a season pass type deal).....i would buy it up in a heart beat!!

They aren't stupid. They aren't going to spend their time on something they know good and well would come out as sub-par.

And it would. No matter what, Mass Effect is not going to have exploration on par with, say, Bethesda games. (Of course, a game like the Elder Scrolls can never have the cinematic level design and combat sequences a game like Mass Effect can have.)

All genres have strengths and weaknesses. They're going to focus on their strengths.

I don't care for Bethesda myself. I've tried. Something about their games makes me physically ill. FPS or TPS. I cannot play their games.

Look. I don't expect a bunch of planets, but I would like them to open it up. It feels smaller.

I agreed with EVERYTHING you just said.

I think it all depends on the style of game they're going for really, along with the character. I for one would like to see loot become a feature in the new game (opening up more options for armor customization, powers amps, weapon mods etc) but if the main character is say, a spectre, I can't see them running around and rummaging corpses. But if we were a merc or hired muscle or an assassin, I could see that working.

I'd also like more control over my party, like Dragon Age. I'd like to be able to control each team mate rather than push left and right to order them around.

They could try to persue something along the lines of Borderlands. But that's difficult to do at this point, plus its an entirely different game. Each weapon in Mass Effect is pretty unique, I don't think it would go over well if someone looted a 'Red Mattock 8' instead of a 'Green Mattock 8.'
(I would like to see this, actually. But its everyone else you gotta convince)

Heck yeah that would be awesome. I like being able to control party members at will. I would Love to see that in ME!

"Exploration' in the first game consisted of driving around on cookie-cutter planets with recycled levels looking for rocks. ME 2 and ME 3 did a much better job of making the world immersive than ME 1 did.

I still don't think you're hearing me. I'm not saying "Make it exactly like ME1" I'm saying it needs to come back bigger and better.

Just take a moment here and read what people are saying. Many posters here WANT exploration.

You say Bioware wont make something sub-par? Because they "aren't stupid?" Games aren't perfect, its near impossible to make a game perfect. Each ME game has its weakness its true. But that won't stop Bioware from trying something they believe in, just look at the original ending. how many people called that "sub-par."
Look at the amount of full wheel dialogue, or the lack therof, so many people want and miss. I think many would call that sub-par.

No sane person is asking for a hardcore pen and paper RPG and using 20 menus just to use some medigel or something like that, but things like customizable squadmate armor and good dialog wheel conversations would be much appreciated.

Several armor selections per squadmate that look great is a lot better than 20 generic ones that are nothing more than a color swap and are ill-fitting for the squadmate's body and structure.

The armor in ME 3 was much better than the armor in ME 1.

I really hope BW doesn't listen to you, David. You don't wanna explore. You don't want to customize. I bet you love auto dialogue, too.

Ick all the way around.

You are not going to get 20 unique, fitting, stylish and practical sets of armor for each squadmate. Period. Particularly if you want animations (including hair and clothing animations) to keep pace and improve. It doesn't matter worth a damn how much you want to explore or not.

You can have a few really nice ones, or a whole lot of crappy ones. That's your choice.

No, what doesn't matter worth damn is your high and mighty attitude.

I don't care what you say. I want more RPG elements in future ME titles. If you find that "incredibly annoying", feel free to run along.

It's not annoying. It's just ridiculous. You seem to think making unique, stylish, practical outfits for every squadmate that support ultra-high quality animations is as simple as snapping your fingers. Yes, I would certainly like to be able to snap my fingers and have it happen too. But that isn't the way it works.

Edit # 2:
I'm seeing a few common topics popping up, and I wanted to put them here on top.

It seems that we really miss and/or want a bigger presence of the following:

  • Full wheel dialgues
  • Exploration/immersion
  • Stronger RPG elements (or more like what it was in the beginning)

Well, I hope the new engine they're using will help with that. I know it's not easy. None of it is. But I also know BW can do better.

That is all.

Making three outfits per squadmate is more than plenty to satisfy 99% of players. And even if a player isn't satisfied, it's hardly a game breaking issue. It's an extremely low priority. If the artists, modelers and animators have a few days with nothing to do, it might be something they could work on. But since it's typical for developers to work as many 60 hours a week or more when a game is nearing release, I highly doubt that's going to happen.
