 - Don't use wierd lip physics with the kissing animations like ME3 did, it makes the game too much uncanny valley
 - Have tasteful nudity - like Mass Effect 1 did.
 - Underwear looks soooooooo awkward when it's forced on love scenes :S
 - Animate bed sheets! Then you can hide the nudity without having silly underwear to cover it all up!
 - Obviously, don't do anything voyeuristic, it's tacky and looks dumb we are all adults here, we don't need to be pandered to with that kind of thing.
 - Absolutely focus on the romance, maybe add little character movements that are specific to them. Say a character loves flowers, then in the scene, they put a flower in their lovers hair or something like that - make it feel emotional.
 - if you can't evoke emotional reactions in these scenes, don't have them. Cut them. Kiss and fade to black instead.

Don't be afraid to show a little nudity! It's 2012 for god sake! I mean... what people make love through their underwear?

Well that went downhill quickly...

I thought the way they handled it in DA2 was well done, especially Fenris' scene. It showed some passion between Hawke and their LI, skipped the awkward underwear shots, and went straight to the after-event talking.

I agree, but the after event talking was in underwear.... ummm... wut?

Should have just been under the covers. would have made more sense.

I kinda like Kaidan's scene a lot. A little bit of nudity doesn't hurt. It's all about the illusion of the love scene, not the actual love making. I want them to make it more romantic. It wouldn't turn into lust if they know how to evolve emotions in the love scene.

Maybe Hawke doesn't like to sleep nude and put on some undies before nodding off? :D  Just being covered by the sheet would have worked as well, but at least they didn't show the whole thing with underwear like DAO. It's progress, I think.

DA2 probably had the best love scenes of any Bioware game yet, though it's very very close with ME1. ME1's hit the "very sensual without being outright porny" sweet spot that DA:O's scenes swung and CRITICALLY missed, but DA2's were all so character specific and character driven, unlike ME1's model swaps. Isabela and Fenris's scenes were especially fantastic.

Just fade to black. Or better yet, don't have romance; it's implementation is laughably bad across the entire medium, and BioWare is no exception, and it would get rid of some of the worse elements of BioWare's fandom.

Oh, I think getting rid of combat would sort out the worse elements a lot quicker :)

There's a reason the ME3 romance section is the only one that's locked right now.

I've never really seen the point of adding dating sim elements to games (nor do I see a real point for the existence of that genre of gameplay), other than attempting to exploit the "sex sells" angle.

And is the point of combat in games an attempt to exploit the "if it bleeds, it leads" angle? Posted Image

Please get rid of them- they are super creepy, and I cannot stand that weirdo wailing-fantasy -singing that pipes through the background.

I died a little when Morrigan blew, Posted Image, out the candle during the dark ritual Posted Image. (I died during that entire scene, actually- her creepy face, my warden sitting on the bed in his awkward tighties, her freako swagger-gait towards the bed, etc...)

edit: hmm, actually....

If they are going to include a love scene, it must progress as follows:

Male protag, female lovah:

1. Black screen. Cue dumb-ass wailing
2. Fade into scene with protag/lovah frolicking in sun-kissed meadows.
3. zoom towards lovers' kissy-face-gazes. Have a butterfly fly between their faces, have the camera trail that butterball towards the sky/sun.
4. Sun fades to moon.
5. Zoom down to lovahs in moonlight-drenched wood.
6. On a rock, place female lovah all hot-'n-ready (Music change: jazzy drum solo)
7. Go American beauty on dat chick, and have a scene shift where rose petals fall from sky/cover the immodest bits Posted Image.
8. shift to a scene of unicorns galloping
9. shift to scene of hummingbirds suckling on nectar
10. shift back to lovahs' embrace surrounded by flower garlands suspended by adorable birds.
11. then... shift the tone to this:
12. then shift to bears fighting
13. fireworks
14. whipping noises
15. creepy lovah laughs (Shot of moon, pan down to silhouette of lover)
16. fade black

Hardly. The fact is, the vast majority of games, even moreso than other mediums, center around violence, and Dragon Age is no exception. Like it or not, combat is a core element of this game, and the story itself is quite violent as well. While many good stories incorperate romance as well as action, from what I've seen, it rarely if every works well in video games, and never works in quote on quote interactive stories like BioWare's two major contemporary franchises.

Of course, the biggest reason I'd prefer fade to black over what we have now is that BioWare has never been able to make the sex scenes not look incredibly awkward. Even the oft mentioned Witcher 2 or ME1 sex scenes were merely "subpar" in my opinion.

I personally prefer Fade To Black myself.  But a good romance story is not about scoring with the LI, but in developing a special relationship with that character.  And to me, the essence of a good rpg (or at least, and interesting one) is in the protagonist forging relationships with the assorted npcs.  Friendships, rivalries, families, comrades-in-arms, and yes, romances.

This.  Romances aren't necessary, they're a logical extension of developing relationships with the NPCs in-game.  Developing those relationships is one of the critical elements of an RPG.

Do what you did in DA II, but add a bit of undress if you have the zots for it.
