Even I can’t recall everything that happened to me when that came out in 2007. It’s human nature. We’re not Rain Man…

I think this is definitely the best chance we have in the series to really break out and go truly blockbuster. It really is a natural entry point for people: giant alien race launches all-out war, you have to rally the forces of the universe to counter and see if you can take them down. That’s pretty clear. You don’t need to be like: ‘Well, what about when I had this love affair?’ It’s like, who cares? It’s all out war!

The way I see it, the relationships were meant as (by BW, whether they'll ever admit it or not):

Liara: She's yours for all 3 games. Finish with her.

Ashley: You do her in ME1. In ME2 you get seduced by Miranda. In ME3 you get back with her and finish with her.

Miranda: Get with her in ME2. Leave her for Ashley in the third game. If you decide to stay with her, she's supposed to die on Sanctuary, being a tragic lost love.

Thane: Same as Miranda.

Kaidan: Same as Ashley.

Garrus/Tali: Get with them in ME2, stay with them.

Traynor/Cortez: New interests for a Shepard LGBT.

Kelly/Allers: Kelly got shafted, but I don't think anyone would do Allers.

Jacob: Same as Miranda, only he leaves you.

Jack: That completely went no where. I feel sorry for her fans.

For me, it was romance Ashley in ME1, I die before it really gets super serious. In ME2, Ashley rejects me simply because of the logo I now where on my chest (Cerberus) and calls me a traitor, forming a resentment towards her for my Shepard. In Miranda, he sees a beautiful, dangerous mystery woman who is very strong and doesn't treat him like a god because of who he is. He falls for her (and she for him) after he helps her with Oriana. Things go slow for a bit with Miranda's main personality trying to rationalize why their feelings in this situation are a bad thing, but eventually they finally submit to their feelings, and find that they have formed an incredible bond, so much of one that she unhesitatingly sides with him and resigns Cerberus on the CB. This carries over to the next game. A jealous AW, who thinks every thing can go back to what it was now that Shepard has cut ties with Cerberus, is angry that Shepard now rejects her and gets into her mind that he is still a Cerberus loyalist being manipulated by Miranda (half-true. Shepard admires the concept of Cerberus, but TIM has gone bat**** crazy. Shepard has no choice but to put him down before he screws the galaxy). She resolves to try to kill Miranda so that Shepard can be guided back to the blind, unquestioningly loyal path of the alliance that she so willingly gorges on. Doesn't work. During the coup, Ashley points a gun at Shepard, and Shepard unhesitatingly blows her away, with no remorse or guilt for his action, since she refused to see reason (sometimes I let her live to get her 25 WA points). Miranda stays loyal to Shepard, never once questioning his resolve or will. He saves her life at Sanctuary, and after the war, they go on to create Phoenix, a new group from the ashes of Cerberus. And lots of copulation of course. That's the quick version.

Sorted from the one who needed more content from first place to last, trying to keep my own personal bias of the characters themselves out of it. For instance, while I don't appreciate Allers' inclusion in the game, she's still a massive missed opportunity.

1. Jacob
2. Kelly
3. Allers
4. Thane
5. Miranda
6. Jack
7. Cortez
8. Traynor
9. Tali
10. Ashley
11. Garrus
12. Kaidan
13. Liara

I'm lucky my CanonShep is a Liaramancer.

Thane, Jacob.

Also, Vega. It boggles the mind how Bioware can remove two of FemShep's romance options without providing us with a new LI, outside of multiple lesbians.

Jack and Miranda.

But mostly Jack, because she doesn't even have an exclusive scene for romances. You get the dance scene no matter what, only difference being you can kiss her there.

Should've been one more little moment prior to the assault on the Cerberus base, at least.

Also, I guess Thane, since I see that his fans found it fairly unfulfilling.

That's a mighty big pile o' BS ya got thar.

Yours, meanwhile, is mercifully small!

I'm sure you've got lots of interesting things to say about what I posted, but swearing at me isn't one of them. I'm not trying to persuade anyone here with my post, I'm not insisting I'm right, I'm just offering my opinion in response to a public question - but if you think it's that important that I rethink my perspective... go on! Persuade me! Even if I disagree with you, I might have at least learnt something, might've seen things from a new angle, and even if not I'll have enjoyed a civil, friendly exchange of ideas. That'd be brilliant! That's how the internet should be!

But right now? The picture you're painting is kind of coming out along the lines of, "Blowhard, no substance, liable to flip out if anyone dares post an opinion they disagree with." I'll level with you, you're not flattering yourself. You actually, dare I say it, currently seem like a bit of a c**t.

I hope you're not! I like to talk to people, I like to like people, and it'd be great if I could add you to the list of cool people I've chatted with on the internet. But you're not really giving me much to work with, here. Try again, but this time talk to me like a human. I'll respond like one, I swear.

Whatever happened to "don't swear at me!"

You're also getting really angry and pissed off over a 10 word respons. Which brings the credibility of your view, idc what it was, down and makes you look like an idiot.

Plus 5 for the entertaining meltdown though.

I know :P When I saw her first on the ship I thought: "Ok, she was stranded there, she needed evacuation from the planet, we're giving her a ride to this Citadel. How nice of the game to show this."

Then I talked to her and found out she was staying, just because we saved her arse? So we lost one guy that even if more or less a rookie was fitted to be in this specops ship. Ashley substitue him just because we used her to fight with us and lead us to the beacon?

Add to that the fact that I disliked her a lot and that I loved Kaidan and Virmire was a no brainer

Absolutely useless. She's probably the most unqualified of the bunch. No offense to her fans, but Ashley is a frontline grunt. One of thousands, maybe millions. Yeah she's got her **** squared away, and is well trained, but nothing that puts her above the rank and file. Due to her blacklisting, I don't see how she would have qualified for any special training or assignments to broaden her career horizons (Airborne, Air Assault, Sapper schools, etc.)

Plus, even more than say Miranda (who I imagine with having successfully led fireteams on the CB without a casualty has earned the respect of the team), she would be considered an outsider. She repeatedly states that she doesn't trust any of the aliens on the first Normandy, in fact showing that Kaidan is really the only squadmate she talks to. And she really does have some bad speciesist attitudes. She's humanocentric to a degree that could constitute racism.

I doubt she'd get along with anyone on Shepard's team in ME2. She has too much blind faith in the alliance to see past them at all. Especially since none of them are too fond of the alliance she holds so dear.

In all honesty, she was also made a spectre by Udina so he would have an unwitting pawn in his scheme. All you have to do to get Ashley's loyalty? Have a higher rank than her. All Udina has to say was, "I'm not with Cerberus, Shepard is" and she immediately gets upset because her superior told her to be. She has no capacity to think outside the alliance. And the alliance is terribly flawed and bloated in my opinion.

Back to her rather narrow set of skills compared to the others;

Kaidan: a powerful biotic (rarity for humans), and a trained military officer, a leader with at least a decade of experience and training.

Garrus: Longtime C-Sec detective with prior distinguished service in the Turian military, and at one time a Spectre candidate who turned down his appointment.

Tali: Not a phenominal combatant, but her skill lies more with tech and engineering capabilities. I don't like her much, but she is a damn fine engineer, and as Joker and Adams both say, she brings out the best in the Normandy.

Liara: In ME1, I'd have said she was even less qualified than Ashley as a civilian Asari who has little to no training or experience, minus the cursory biotics training that all Asari recieve. As of ME2-3, she's much more competent, though again, less in combat, and more in information gathering and espionage.

Wrex: Has centuries of experience as a Krogan Battlemaster with powerful biotics.

And that's just when Ashley's compared to the ME1 team.

Oh, dear. I feel like I'm starting to understand why the romance subforum was closed.

"Talk to me like a human and I'll start talking to you like one" qualifies as a meltdown. "It'd be great if I could add you to the list of cool people I've chatted with on the internet" is "really angry and pissed off," whereas "What a load of BS" is just a ten word response, chill out man. How exactly does that work?

I'm coming from a place where I think, if someone disagrees with something, they should really state why. I think I've done that, and I am more than happy for people to disagree with me. I came in here because I was interested in talking to people, whether they agree with me or no. Swearing's fine. I'm quite a casual swearer, not fazed by profanity at all, but if all you're doing is swearing? Not really a chat, is it? "Wrong answer - BZZT!" doesn't really count as a conversation. Doesn't demonstrate a degree of higher thought. Doesn't demonstrate anything much, just a burst of pointless anger. "How dare you be different to me!" That's such an unhealthy attitude to discussion. That's not a discussion, that's ****-flinging for the sake of ****-flinging. It's the start of an argument.

I decided to use lots of words because I'm trying to steer it back into a constructive discussion type thing, but if that's indistinguishable from a meltdown, I'm not really sure what I can do about that. I'd say it's pretty much the exact opposite of a meltdown, myself, but I'm expressing myself exactly how I normally express myself. I'd hope I'm not alone in thinking I'm being fairly rational, but maybe it's just me.

I don't mind religion at all (I'm an atheist, as is my Shepard) but she's the only religious person in the game to ask your opinion on her religion, thus judging you on your response (I called her a zealot).

She also says something that irked me in the beginning when she's listing off your accomplishments like a fan. You might say my Shepard has somewhat of an ego, so he was understandably pissed when she said that the only reason he's survived through his experiences on Akuze and the Skyllian Blitz was because "Someone was looking out for him" and not his incredible skill and training as an N7 SF Operator, outstanding will to live, and his own utterly ruthless efficiency.

Vega's femshep romance had the potential to be sooooo funny. Considering Vega's got an alpha male streak in him and Femshep's got experience in letting chaps like that down lightly or hard.

It's actually a lot more fun to just shoot her yourself and get the "I hope the Reapers send you to hell!" line

Then ****** her off in the grave when her name is forever blacklisted (she is the unwitting traitor, but still a traitor) and Shepard blows the Reapers to hell.

Yeah, I hated that too. Thane dies a hero, Ashley dies a traitor, and all everyone can think is "Sorry about Ash, Shepard."

Her name is removed and her plate is incinerated on Shepard's orders.
