In ME4, "the quantities may vary, but you can expect the same basic ingredients you found in ME1-3"

I take back my outrage...

So good news!

UPDATE: It will have both the shooter and the rpg elements still there.

You might be right. It would seem odd though to discard one of the most successful systems implemented in their blockbuster IP.

If they do ditch it, I can only assume it'll be because they maybe felt like the reaction to ME3 showed them that developing a system around choice can create too many problems when trying to please the fanbase.

However if they take it out, they won't have the same USP to differentiate them from the other big blockbuster games.

I reckon at least something similar will remain. Choice at the very least, even if it's not (necessarily) dialogue-based.

What they did to me3 I think already got at least half of the fanbase permission to be pissed off or upset

Generally speaking that is the most logical thing to do. Although people kept saying that in regards to Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3. Especially after the demo's came out and people complained.

They were then repeatedly told "It's just a demo, wait until the real game comes out."

That is not to say people should judge this early, but people should not dismiss everything bad they hear as "It's not out yet" either.

Well, the players complained about having not enough choices or that they did not matter. The logical conclusion would NOT be to scrap that part...

Mass Effect 4 does not need to be RPG to be a "Mass Effect".

It can even be an FPS, just make them slap TONS of various characters, dialogue, choices into the game and interesting locations and missions -> I'm buyin'

The next game is either going to be a straight-up shooter, or something along the lines of Rage and Borderlands.

You may quote me for around this time next year.

agreed. i just-waited-and-saw ME3, and i didn't like what i saw, so i think i'm entitled to a little premature judgment here and there.

I will accept and FPS as a ME4, as long as there is quality and content .

If ME4 keeps to the ME3 gameplay mechanics I will also be glad.

I love the soul of the universe BioWare has created, it's gameplay mechanics are second in line of things I care about.

Then why the **** are you trying to tell bioware to abandon the rpg elements that make this series great in the first place?

Agreed, and futhermore, the only chance the fanbase really has to impact major decisions about the devlopement of a game is early on.  Once they have been working on the game for a long time, they can just write off suggestions as not being compatiable with how they've already devloped the game.

First of all, it was said that he'd accept ME4 as a shooter or with ME3 gameplay. Acceptance=/=Telling Bioware to abandon RPG. And RPG elements did not make this series great. ME2 was much less of an RPG than ME1 and in most peoples' opinions, ME2 was better.

bioware traded this soul in for fast cash. if you want it, buy it - but the soul of this game died together with shepard.

we all waited to see, how they are going to end this glorious series ..

they came, we saw, they destroyed the hopes of many fans.
the damage is done and transfering the franchise to another studio is the answer we were looking for. mass effect is dead - and there will be no forther changes or attempts to save what little there is left.

(my opinion - if you dont like it, dont reply)

i will stick to mods from now on ...

If it's an MMO, I won't buy. I strongly want the next ME to be a SP RPG with MP as an option.

BioWare was great at making RPG, the trouble started when they began heading more into action - RPG. They should go back to their roots... But I'm afraid they want to attract FPS players instead. Too bad, because there are only a few of good RPGs and it seems we can't count on BioWare anymore. I hope I'm wrong, I really do.

You never know, they might be turning it into an out and out RPG. Or a strategy game. Or an Xcom clone.

The bit about cinematic story could have done with mentioning interactive in there some way.

I'm afraid you're right. ME3 was an RPG only in name already. Now they want to 'explore a new direction' which I'm afraid means they'll turn it into a generic tps with tacked on rpg elements... pretty much like ME3 but even worse.

I just wish they hadn't messed up ME3 like that, if they want to turn the franchise into another shooter (as if we don't have enough of those already) then that's their business but they could've finished the trilogy properly and THEN mess it up.

ETA: Not to say that a shooter can't be good. I loved Half Life 2 because it had an awesome story. Sadly, BioWare storytelling is not what it used to be either. If they can't even wrap up the trilogy story without resorting to a deus ex machina (and a ridiculous one at that), I have very low hopes for a completely new game.
