In ME4, "the quantities may vary, but you can expect the same basic ingredients you found in ME1-3"

I would hope they would keep those things (romance, character development) in the game... it wouldn't be Mass Effect otherwise.

As far as people saying 'wait and see before you judge', that statement only holds so much water before it caves to the fact that, from what I've seen over the past almost-year, most of the original Mass Effect fanbase was largely disappointed by the way ME3 was handled and has been and ignored by the developer (less the extended cut, which only 1/3rd catered to the most vocal people who wanted it in the first place). They (myself included) are perfectly justified in being very skeptical that Mass Effect 4 will be anything but another step in the direction that ME3 was going in terms of what types of 'art' the developers want in their games.

People seem to think that because Bioware released a free extended cut that this should invalidate any fans butthurt over the game/way the developer acted. This free release doesn't change the facts as they stand, the lies that were told, and the undeniable lack of testing and effort put into various aspects of the game when compared to ME1 and ME2.

I will keep up to date on what news comes out about the game through its development, because I would love to play a game like ME2, but I won't be buying anything until the game is out a while and fan reviews (diehard Mass-Effect fans, not CoD bros who don't know jack about what made the first two games 'Mass Effect') are very good.

As far as FrostBite is concerned, I don't think any of us knows why they want to use that engine, but I agree that it's a bit ... concerning that an RPG-story/cinematic driven series is moving to an engine used primarily in FPS/online shooters....

Guess I must be the only person on the BSN who enjoyed DA2 (though not near as mucha s DA:O) and loved ME3 as much as the other 2 (if not more in some ways, less in others).

Fortunately I've yet to play a truly bad game from BW so yeah my optimism is still high.

I enjoyed DA2 but I didn't ignore the clear and obvious issues that were present in it (you said it yourself, DA:O was better). At the time I chalked it up to **** happens but after SWTOR and ME3 DA2 now appears to have been the start of the decline and not just a hiccup.

Pretty much how I feel. And yes I did enjoy DA2, it's faults weren't game breaking for me but they certainly did do the series any favors.

Seconded. While I enjoyed DA2, it wasn't even in the same league as DAO and marked the beginning of BioWare's decline. Then came SWTOR (which I enjoyed as well but wasn't as great as it should've been) and ME3 (which was just a dumbed down tps that I enjoyed solely because I cared about the characters involved. Then the ending happened and the series was ruined)

So I think sceptisism is very well deserved here. After 3 dissappointing games in a row, one even worse than the other, the chances that BioWare will suddenly improve their games again after not even having acknowledged the f ups with their latest game are....slim to none.

So what quantities of bull****, space magic, and plot holes are we going to have in ME4?

Bioware's video games take up all of my gaming time. There are flaws in most games; the Mass Effect series has been my favorite thus far. Sure, there was a little stuff that I wanted included like ME2 squad mates being an option as ME3 squad mates and an expanded ending of what happened to your squad and the universe as a whole depending on your choices. Besides that, I loved the series and it's innovations. I play ME3MP when I can, which is the longest lived MP for me besides NWN. Whatever they do, as long as the game keeps it's core features, I'm buying. Also, I hope DA3 comes out great. I've bought all the DLC for the ME series, no regrets! :) Currently, I bought all DA:O DLC and Awakenings.. I hope DA2 is good plus here's hoping for an awesome DA3. As long as ME4 isn't an Action Mode ME3, I'm game.

I can see it going this way to be honest. Maybe not Borderlands in the Mass Effect universe exactly, or even Gears in the ME universe, but a shooter with RPG elements thrown in. Can even see them giving us a set protagonist and removing our ability to build him ourselfs.

I don't think this is "Mass Effect 4" but more like a spin off. Kinda like Mass Effect: Reach if you will.

If this turned out to be so, I don't think it would necessarily be a bad thing.  Of course I'd prefer the mechanics that made Mass Effect 1-3 (yes, I included 3 so just deal with it) popular with so many people, but if we're truly looking at something new for the franchise, maybe the gameplay should be one of the new things.

At the very least I intend to wait it out rather than cry "Chaos and bedlam!!!" and declare the ME franchise dead for the umpteenth time.

It seems to be the trend; finish your trilogy, do a spin-off. Happend with Halo, is happaning with Gears, and I bet it's whats going to happen with Mass Effect.
