***THIS HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY TESTED BY MYSELF***

After 2 days of hair-pulling and extensive testing on the ME3 Explorer tool by WarrantyVoider (that is, me ****ing and him doing most of the work) and with the help of a retired Epic Legion, we can all finally save more than 50 times in ME3.
The file in question is SFXGame.pcc, and the line 45241 - Default__SFXSFHandler_PCSave. If you're familiar with the above named tool or hex editing in general, check out the below screenies and get cracking. If not, then I suggest you get it from here and familiarize yourself.

http://sourceforge.n...ts/me3explorer/

Open the SFXGame.pcc, found in [drive letter]:\\Origin Games\\Mass Effect 3\\BIOGame\\CookedPCConsole

with PCC Editor 2.0 (from the Developer Tools menu, then File --> Load), select the "Exports" tab, scroll down the 45241 line and replace the numbers

32 00 -> 0F A0 (as it is) to give yourself the amount of 40,975 max saves :). if you've entered the new hex values correctly, the "Properties" view will automatically update to the edited max saves value.

Then Edit --> Save Hex changes, and then File --> Save to save the edited PCC file. Make sure to BACK UP the SXFGame.pcc before you make any changes, just in case you FUBAR. Then simply overwrite SFXGame.pcc, and depending on your pc's speed, it will take around 30-60 seconds to finish doing that. The resulting SFXGame.pcc will be 27.1mb, as opposed to the original that's 10.3mb. Don't be alarmed, it doesn't cause any problems.

Then it will ask you if you want to update the PCConsoleTOC.bin. YES you should, but remember to back it up first. The bin file is found here     [drive letter]:\\Origin Games\\Mass Effect 3\\BIOGame

The bin file update won't take longer than a few seconds, and once it indicates it's done, you're all set. You'll finally be able to save more than 50 times during your playthrough. To verify the save amount you entered, simply go to View --> Properties and you will see THIS screen (from my own edited PCC)

http://i47.tinypic.com/a0xelv.png

Since it's something I've just figured out, I don't know if the SFXGame.pcc will be restored to its original version, so make sure you remember how to do this, in case a future update or DLC will have an updated version of the file, or simply in case an update restores it ANYWAY, like it does with an edited Coalesced file.

Or simply also backup the edited SFXGame.pcc. The current UNedited one has a "date modified" date of 30 January 2012. If any future updates/DLC replace the edited with the original, simply check its "date modified" date, and if it's the same, then just paste the backed up edited one over it and you won't have any problems.

Special thanks to WarrantyVoider for his ME3Explorer tool and Epic Legion for helping me nail this bi....thing.

*UPDATE - November 14th*

The latest version of ME3Explorer now supports direct editing of max saves value via the Properties view. So hex editing is no longer required. Simply change "50" to whatever number you want and press ENTER. Then continue saving the pcc as normal. I have tested this myself and it works great. See the screenie below for what to edit.

Oh hey, I've wanted to do this for awhile. Gave up awhile back.

Thanks for being persistent and aiding the lazy!

Looking forward to trying this out. Currently my Shepard is spread out in two separate folders. It will be nice to not have to swap out save folders to see earlier missions.

Thanks for figuring this out.

I never understood the limitation anyways. Thanks.

Neither do I, it's stupid and pointless. ME2 has the exact same 50-save limit, though with Epic Legion's ME2 PCC Patcher you can avoid that.

Can I get a value higher than 255 (FF) or do I have to use a 2 "letter/digit" replacement? When I go into the editor it looks like this unlike your screenshot:

EDIT: Never mind, I went to "view" -> "properties" and got your screen. I'll try 1000ish saves and test it. Thanks.

Yes you can, Epic Legion had like 40,000+ as the save limit for ME2. Note: you CANNOT successfully edit the save limit via the Properties view, it HAS to be in hex.

then it's the whole "endianess" thing where they have to be entered in reverse, and as a rookie hex editor, I'm afraid to touch that lol in case I stuff something up. to get the same value as the ME2 edited limit, simply edit

32 00 -> 0F A0 (as it is) to give yourself the amount of 40,975 max saves :)

Ah, cool. Wasn't sure if I could replace the following spaces (don't remember anything about hex editing except sometimes you have to replace character within character to make edits). Replacing 3200 with 0FA0 did indeed give me 40000+ save capacity, so now I can have over 400 saves. : D

Thanks!

well at least the games have been mod-friendly so far, fingers crossed!

I wouldn't exactly call them mod friendly. The only reason we can do anything is that very smart people spend a lot of time making very complicated tools.

it's definitely better than anything Diablo 3 and the like have to offer. and.....natural blonde here, "very smart" doesn't usually come to mind when someone sees me :)

And another update, the latest version of ME3 Explorer supports direct value editing via the Properties view. Hex editing for increasing max saves is no longer required :)

Though I thought I had avoided the idiots that say "ooh just back up your first 50 saves in a different folder and then paste them back over later", but instead one of them signed up on the ME3Explorer forum just to ask why do I need an increased save limit, when I can just spread my Shep out into multiple folders.

Like I said, IDIOTS.

@TheGarden2010
Prior your fix, I unlocked the Mass Effect 3 console and bypassed the save limit by using the command: savegame name in console. This is even better! Thank you so much.

Sorry to bump this back up but I've followed the instructions to the letter and it just doesn't work.

The program never prompts for the step mentioned of saving PCConsoleTOC.bin and so trying to launch the game after editing just results in a crash.

Given my habitual saving nature, the 50 save limit is becoming a pain.

Okay. After a bit more playing around I've found the solution.

After saving the SFXGame.pcc you don't get any prompt. You instead need to go to "Tools" and run "TOCbinUpdater".

The next step is to select "File" and then "Check PCConsoleTOC.bin". This will scan and apply the changes made.

Now I can save to my heart's content.

Just copy them to a different folder. No, seriously, the game cannot handle many more saves as it terribly efficiently reads all of them before allowing you to continue (freezing the interface).

Saving at all my favorite points, with a full run through the game, I tend to top out at 50 at the start of the Strip part of Citadel. So really quite near the end. (Edit: I use Citadel as the epilogue to the game.)

All I need are maybe ten to fifteen more saves and I don't think they will damage loading speeds any more than Origin does already.

Off-topic I know but speaking of Origin it doesn't unlock achievements very well. The "Hijack" one just unlocked and I achieved the unlock circumstance about a week ago.

I know what you mean about achievement unlocks. I have beat the game several with all DLCs and I still have singleplayer achievements locked.

bumping this just this once in case anybody else still needs to do it.

that only takes 2-3 seconds and you can ignore it anyway. it doesn't actually freeze anything and it won't block you from pressing any UI buttons. my most recent playthrough has 200+ saves and it doesn't bother me one bit.
