After trying and failing to get the downloaded content to install, I attemted to run the update manually and pick the downloaded files from the download directory to apply them manually. I'm running everything "as administrator"
The patch fails and the log file reveals this error messages:
11/3/2009 9:58 PM - Information - Processing manifest for: C:\\DAO_PRC_CP_2_1.0.dazip
11/3/2009 9:58 PM - Error - InstallInfo: Error checking free disk space for C:\\DAO_PRC_CP_2_1.0.dazip install, aborting. Error: System.ArgumentException: Object must be a root directory ("C:\\") or a drive letter ("C").

My hard drive has 673gb free space so clearly the problem is not actual lack of space.
Hopefully someone from Bioware will see this and figure out why the fre space calculation is coming out wrong. Maybe a fix to the patcher will take care of a lot of these issues.
System Specs Are:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
4gb RAM
1tb hard drive with 673gb free space

Just realized, something different about my setup is that the documents folder (where the updater stores everything) is redirected to a network location via UNC path.
Perhaps this is why the installer is failing the disk space check.

Tried moving the install files to drive c:, then installing them manually using the patcher. Still same error.

Someone in my thread has this to say about networked profile files

Just to add to the fun, if you have
redirected documents to a network location you'll need to temporarily
revert it to default settings or it won't work either, not sure if
redirected to another drive is an issue as mine's to a network drive
but another thing for those having issues, I changed my redirection and
I started getting downloads right away.

The problem is here:
Error: System.ArgumentException: Object must be a root directory ("C:\\\\") or a drive letter ("C").
I was able to download all the DLC just fine, but always got this install error. This is something I imagine is only effecting those of us with UNC file redirections for My Documents. Depending on how you are setting your redirections (I use domain GPO's) it can be a huge P.I.T.A. This of course only applies if the DLC is installed into the Bioware directory that resides in My Documents, which I imagine it does.
If you map your UNC to a letter and then redirect your My Doucments there, it will work but my guess is that you'll have to keep that drive mapped for DA to run your DLC.

I'm using domain GPO's for the mapping since I found they worked much better than drive letters for the Vista/7and Server2k8 combo.
I realize redirected My Documents is probably not as common in a home environment as it would be elsewhere, but surely it's not unheard of (especially as home servers become more prevalent).
I'll play with the redirections when I get home.

DA hates UNC paths=Confirmed.
I logged in with a local account and the DLC installed just fine. I tried dragging them into my folder redirection but the game would not see that the content was in there. Perhaps putting them in the overide directory? But IIRC overrides use a different file extension.
Looks like us GPO/UNC users are going to have to figure something out so we can play this game. it is all too convenient having my redirects. I can play any game that uses My Documents as the save path at home or on the go on my laptop over my VPN...I hate adding more workarounds to remember.

I wonder if there's a way to tell Dragon Age to select another directory than My Documents to dump the Bioware folder with the DLC.
An .ini file maybe somewhere in the game folder? I don't have the game where I am right now so I can look it up.

Try looking in the registry too

It looks like these settings are in the DAOriginsConfig.xml and/or DAOriginsLauncher.xml files.
Don't have time to play with all the variable names now, but maybe later.

Think I got it.
In the DAOriginaConfig.xml file you want to change:
c$\\{CSLID.........}:\\BioWare\\Dragon Age
to
c:\\yourpath\\BioWare\\Dragon Age
In the DAOriginsLauncher.xml file you change the USER_DATA, NEWS_DIR, and CONFIG_DIR in the same way.
After doing this, the config tool stored all of its stuff in the path I specified. I'm connected remotely so I can't actually run the game, but this seems like the logical solution.

Epic fail. The updater appears hardwired to use the "My Docs" for its storage regardless of the paths in the XML files.

If the config files reset, did you try making them read only?
#18
Posté 04 novembre 2009 - 07:14
I can tell from the modified date/time the game is using the new paths for the Configure tool, etc. Removing the old files from My Docs affects only the launcher so it must be getting its config from somewhere else.

How did you find out it failed Pendragon, I thought you were remote? I can see if I have time to try on my laptop at my office.

Might have to hack (Hexedit) the .exe to redirect it. That's the only other thing I can think of.

I don't know if this will help but my DLC would always download, but not install until I turned my anti-virus software off for the time that it needed, then turned it back on and everything is good to go.

I could tell it failed because I got the same error trying to patch using daupdater.
After I removed the original "\\\\server\\mydocs\\bioware\\dragon age" folder, the configure utility, launcher, etc. worked fine, but daupdater died. It would run, but all the buttons, graphics, etc. were missing so I know it is still looking in the MyDocs folder for its files.

I changed the first post of my thread to include the info we gathered from that thread and a couple others (this one included). It could help some people.

Here is what I did to get things to work:
Keep in mind Pendragon and I run a domain (ie we have servers):
1. Log into a local account not a domain account. If you don't have a domain, create an account and don't redirect your my documents. My account was named the exact same this may not work on a computer that cannot do domain AND local accounts.
2. Download and install all DLC.
3. Copy EVERY folder/file in C:\\users\\*username*\\Bioware\\Dragon Age\\
4. Place all the folders/files you copied above in the redirected equivalent of your My Documents folder.

Worked perfectly for me. I use that and SyncToy to keep everything in check with minimal effort. Hopefully they patch the patcher soon.
