Look at Skyrim, it's basically the same.

Your blame is misplaced. The race choice in Skyrim is amazing; the handling of this choice in dialogue and plots is horrible.

Human, turian m, and asari would satisfy some, but not all; however, it will keep the costs somewhat reasonable. I'll guess it would make VA costs 300%. 2 additional protagonist VAs and a sizeable amount of additional dialogue from NPCs to make this choice matter.

It agree. I be fine with Asari, Turians and the main species. I know Humabs will be a option, if they added the feature I will play Asari and Turians.

Ten different voice actor would almost certainly cause much, much, much lower quality voicework.

People keep quoting this rubbish. You would not need so many voice actors. At least part of the individual 'sound' of each species is in post production effects & editing which could be applied to any voice. With the right casting & performance most of the species could be accomodated with only a few voices, maybe only male & female as now.

I for one think this is probably the way forward for further Mass Effect games.

Whatever Bioware do there has to be a human character option, since it seems some people will have a seizure or something otherwise. If there is a human option with the same quality of performance & characterization as the current games I can't see why the pro-human lobbyists would have cause to complain about there being other options they never have to use.

If future games feature nothing but the same old human space marine saving the galaxy (again), it would become such a watered down rehash of what we already have I can't see much hope for it. The franchise has to move forward. The surprising success of multiplayer can't be ignored in this. Fans have enjoyed being able to play as different species & character classes.

I don't think they could realistically do as many species as the current multiplayer from the development cost side of things alone. Also there would be scripting issues for characterization. But I think it would certainly be possible to do 4 or 5 of the more popular species. That may leave some people feeling disappointed if their favorite gets left out but it would please the majority of fans. Something Bioware will no doubt be keen to do with the next game.

I hope they still include this fees tyre, if it can't be all species. They could just do the main species, maybe include other species in a DLC. I also think the characters should be fully costumizable with costumes, Clothing and armor and body, face. I will love to play an Asari, Truians or another species. Humans most like be in anyways. They could add the feature and make the game great.

That's the point though, you basically have 10 Nord variants to chose from.
There's never a point where your orc can feel like an orc.

Its not so much the idea of picking a race for your character, i for one think its great.

My concern however is trying to create convincing back stories that not only stands out from one another but also flows seamlessly into the games plot and numerous conversation/interaction options and subjects. The main concern that i'm hearing here is that whilst the developers spending time writing these stories and conversation paths it could take their focus away from the main plot itself or worse we end up with a dozen versions of lead characters that wont stand up to everyone's expectations for them.

I thought the choice of races for the multiplayer in ME3 was a huge step in the right direction in term of giving us the chance to experience playing as different races in the universe. That is where not only i believe this would work better but could be improved. Use it to bring the bolt-on multiplayer of ME3 up to the same level of immersion as the campaign itself. Add stories to the battle maps, cutscenes, drastic improvements to character customization and so on. A new idea would be to have your created soldier start talking to his teammates as you fight and charge the battlefield and have them talking back to your guy. Conversations for the humorous to serious. Even having your guy shout, bait and curse the enemy as you fight them head on. The conversations could vary depending on the class and species of both recipients giving us that variety and experience from viewing other perspectives.
I'm not choosing either side of this argument. I would like it to work for both in a way that it wouldn't take too much development time away from the main story and game mechanics.

Voice Synthesizer. One persons voice can become as many different types of voices as their are filters on the program.

You should be able to choose your race depending on your romance from previous games. So that would be like Turian, Human, Asari, and Quarian? Just have the same voice actor on all of the races and add effects to the Turian and Quarian voice. Shouldn't be too hard? All the aliens should also have just as much face customization as humans.

We also don't know when Mass Effect 4 going to take place. I hope way way in the future. If they do after Mass Effect 3 that fine too. They have the features from Multiplayer already, they could take few species and add more editing features and armor, clothing like we had with Shepard in the previous games.

If they only added Human it be like playing Shepard again. I don't think many people want that, I think they want new things and features, humanity still be option probably.

Human male/female
Asari (human female and asari can share the same voice)
Turian male/female

Not has hard as some people are making out to be, by recording a few more actors.

Single voice actor can produce several completely different voices. That's why she/he is a voice actor.

I doubt they would need more than 4 voice actors to voice all possible protagonists. Maybe even 2 of them will be more than enough.

I guess we just have to wait and see. I'm sure they will make most fans happy, there fans who want to play just Humans and there's others who don't want to play human. They have to find away to make both fans happy.

What Seival said is correct, a VA can reenact many voices because he/she excels in that category. Making some race like an Asari wouldn't be hard, give human animations and human voice actor and you have an Asari.

Some races like Turian might be harder, but it won't kill them for making a walking animation.

What races do people want? Obviously Human, Turian, Asari and 1 other race. 4 or 5 is a good range.

I would like to try being a Salarian STG member. Say I start around the time Shepard got into ME1, so I'd have perhaps 10 years left to make a difference. The pressure's on!
